Wuhan (simplified Chinese: 武汉; traditional Chinese: 武漢; pinyin: Wǔhàn [wùxân] ( listen)) is the capital of Hubei province, People's Republic of China, and is the most populous city in Central China.[4] It lies in the eastern Jianghan Plain at the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han rivers. Arising out of the conglomeration of three cities, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, Wuhan is known as the nine provinces' leading thoroughfare; it is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and expressways passing through the city. Because of its key role in domestic transportation, Wuhan was sometimes referred to as the Chicago of China.[5][6] It is recognized as the political, economic, financial, cultural, educational and transportation center of central China.[4] The city of Wuhan, first termed as such in 1927, has a population of 10,020,000 people (as of 2011),[2] with about 6,434,373 residents in its urban area. In the 1920s, Wuhan was the national capital of a leftist Kuomintang (KMT) government led by Wang Jingwei in opposition to Chiang Kai-shek,[7] as well as wartime capital in 1937.
Wuhan is in east-central Hubei, at latitude 29° 58'--31° 22' N and longitude 113° 41'--115° 05' E, east of the Jianghan Plain, and is at the confluence of the Hanshui and Yangtze Rivers along the middle reaches of the latter.
The metropolitan area comprises three parts -- Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang -- commonly called the Three Towns of Wuhan (hence the name Wuhan, combining Wu from the first city and Han from the other two). The consolidation of these cities occurred in 1927 and Wuhan was thereby established. The parts face each other across the rivers and are linked by bridges, including one of the first modern bridges in China, known as the First Bridge. It is simple in terrain -- low and flat in the middle and hilly in the south, with the Yangtze and Han rivers winding through the city. Wuhan occupies a land area of 8,494.41 square kilometres (3,279.71 sq mi), most of which is plain and decorated with hills and a great number of lakes and pools.
Climate[edit]
Wuhan's climate is humid subtropical (Köppen Cfa) with abundant rainfall and four distinctive seasons. Wuhan is known for its oppressively humid summers, when dewpoints can often reach 26 °C (79 °F) or more.[12] Because of its hot summer weather, Wuhan is commonly known as one of the Three Furnaces of China, along with Nanjing and Chongqing. Spring and autumn are generally mild, while winter is cool with occasional snow. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from 3.7 °C (38.7 °F) in January to 28.7 °C (83.7 °F) in July. Annual precipitation totals 1,269 millimetres (50.0 in), mainly from May to July; the annual mean temperature is 16.63 °C (61.9 °F), the frost-free period lasts 211 to 272 days and annual sunlight duration is 1810 to 2100 hours. Extreme temperatures have ranged from −18.1 °C (−1 °F) to 42.0 °C (108 °F)

China Steam 2013 - Part 2 - Around Fuxin Colliery
A tour of what remains of steam trains in China. Part 2 deals with the complex of coal mines in Fuxin (Liaoning province). A number of steam locomotives (SY class) have been seen hauling coal trains, but also hot ash from the neighboring power station up to the heap. Quite steep for a steam locomotive. Only service trains are shown, no charters. Part 3 is here:

Phoenix Mountain is located at the forest district called Swan in Shanhetun Forestry Bureau, Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province. In Spring, there are hundreds of flowers, green mountains, lush trees, and tweeting birds; in Summer, it is a good resort with pleasant weather and cool breeze; in Fall, the wind brings the cool feeling and red leaves are flying, painting a fantastic view on Wuhua Mountain; in Winter, thousand miles of ice and snow, showing the picture of dancing mountains and silver rivers.
The landscape of Phoenix Mountain in Winter is mainly composed of two parts: alps and snowfields, and valleys. Because the influence of warm and wet airflow in the sea of Japan and Baikal Lake cold air, plus six months of snow, the quality of snow there is unique and amazing, and is the standard snow forest and plain.
There is the highest hanging garden in the North, the largest canyon waterfalls, the first gorge in Longjiang River, the most dangerous drift, the most potential ice and snow sports field, the most influential UFO landing point in the East, and the maximum number of narrow gauge steam train museums.

Dalian prototype DF8B 3001! (HD)
As a total surprise, I could record this prototype DF8B number 3001 in action on the Jitong line! Normally, DF8B's are only built at Qishuyan (DF8B 0XXX) or Ziyang (DF8B 5XXX), but this is one built at Dalian. It has 6000 hp instead of 5000 hp, and a different body shape, but it's clearly exactly as noisy as the regular DF8B's... ;-) The train is seen here between tunnels 3 and 4 on the Jingpeng Pass.
