This is expat life at it's finest. For my birthday this year my amazing friends surprised me with a trip to Amanohashidate 天橋立 宮津市 in Kyoto, Japan. For this first installment, we have brunch before we make the journey from Kyoto city to Amanohashidate by bus, find a lovely temple called Chion-Ji 智恩寺 on our search for coffee, and relax. －Amanohashidate “The Bridge of Heaven”－
One of the three scenic spots in Japan, it is a special landmark of Japan and offers spectacular views from Kyoto, Japan. An indispensable view of sightseeing.
There are about 5,000 pieces of sand with a total length of about 3.6 km, pine topography, unusual terrain, and about 5,000 tops of the sky bridge. It is said that it was named Sky Bridge Standing.

Enshrined the one of Japan's Three Wisdom Buddhist Saint.
Famous for giving wisdom, details are for the examination and qualification examinations.
At ancient time, the creation of Japan's motherland, it was reported that the Buddhist, the god of dragons, was invited from China to calm the evil dragon that was rampaging here, and that evil dragons were educated.
The main gate facing the lead street to Chion-ji temple is a designated cultural property of the city, also called the Golden Pavilion, and is the largest main gate in Kyoto Tango region.
－Kono Shrine－
This ancient divine shrine is called “Moto-Ise”.
During the Nara era, it became the first shrine of Kyoto Tango areas.
In front of the main shrine, there are shining five-colored seats that are only allowed to worship at Ise Shrine and Kono Shrine.
At the precincts there is a water skull where you can hear the sound of the water flowing underground, and the mysterious sound will calm your mind.
Myth of Amanohashidate “The Bridge of Heaven”
In the story of Amanohashidate, the ladder used by Izanagi No Mikoto (goddess) in the sky to go to Izanamino Mikoto (goddess) at Okumiya Manai Shrine, a shrine on the ground, was in Amanohashidate. Now, it is said to be a land of good connection between men and women.

Okumiya the rear side of former Kono Shrine.
Behind the main shrine, there is an ancient ritual site Iwakura, which has been worshiped in its original form for about 2,500 years, and is dedicated to Japanese gods.
On the grounds, there is a splendid spring of God water called Heaven's Manai Water.
We come from all over the country in search of the spiritual new “Manai no Mizu”.

Located on Mt. Monju, it is an observatory where you can overlook Amanohashidate from the south side. The view when you “peep into the crotch” from here is called “Hiryukan” because odf the Amanohashidate looks like a dragon flying in the heavens. There is a ferris wheel and a cycle cars as attractions, very popular spot for families, couples and all ages, from small children to the elderly.
In addition, there are many eternal power spots, sightseeing and cultural attractions around Amanohashidate in Kyoto, you can experience the “Kyoto of the Sea” that is completely different from the city of Kyoto every season.
『Amanohashidate Onsen in MONJUSOU』
MONJUSOU’s hot spring is 100% natural Amanohashidate Onsen, this natural hot-springs relieves cold skin, and from the open-air bath you can see the scenery change with the four seasons from the bathhouse. Amanohashida Onsen, which has a water source 1500m underground, is of good quality. After meeting up with friends in the Kansai area, I spent the weekend exploring Kyoto by bicycle, visiting Amanohashidate (one of the Three Views of Japan 日本三景), and strolling down lantern-lined streets of Miyazu's Yawarabi Festival.

Toddler in Japan: Traditional Japanese breakfast, Tea House, & Rotating Bridge in Miyazu (Day 12)
We took our nearly 3 year old on her first international trip to Japan.
The day begins with a traditional Japanese breakfast at our ryokan, Hotel Kitanoya. Close to our hotel we stroll through Chionji temple where they hang paper fan fortunes. We watch the rotating bridge near Amanohashidate and take a much needed break at a Tea House.
This is a part of an epic 14 day trip through Japan, with an ecstatic toddler in tow.

Japan Travel: One of Japan's Three Most Scenic Places--Amanohashidate, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan
Amanohashidate (天橋立), located along the coast of northern Kyoto Prefecture, is one of Japan’s three most scenic places (Nihon Sankei). The pine tree covered sandbar lies in the Miyazu Bay. Viewed from above, Amanohashidate looks like it is connecting the heaven with the earth. Visitors can visit the mountains on either end of the bay to view this “heavenly bridge.” It is said the bridge looks even more beautiful upside down, so visitors may see Japanese people bending down to enjoy the view upside down from between their knees. There are several tourist attractions on Amanohashidate itself. There are temples, a shrine, and a small amusement park. There are also observation decks as well as sand beaches. Visitors can rent bicycles on either end of the sandbar to explore or wander around by foot. Also, there are sightseeing cruises available to cruise around the bay.

宮津の切戸文殊堂（智恩寺）［4K］
日本三景、天橋立の南側に位置する文殊地区。威風堂々とした山門は「黄金閣」と呼ばれ、丹後地方最大の山門。そこは「切戸の文殊」と呼ばれる臨済宗妙心寺派の「智恩寺」である。
「三人寄れば文殊の知恵」ということわざがあり、その文殊とは文殊菩薩のこと。この「智恩寺」は奈良の安倍文殊院、山形の大聖寺と並ぶ日本三文殊の一つとして知られ、全国からその知恵を授かろうと参拝する人が絶えない。

Admired Amanohashidate - Scenic and picturesque that nature ever created.
We can have admired Amanohashidate by cruise boat at the jetty near Chionji Temple in the south to Motoise Kono Temple Shrine in the north. The cruise boat trip takes about 15 minutes every half hourly to reached the other side of the bay. Visitors can be sightseeing around the bay with beautifully lust green pine trees lined around the bay and enjoy the whitish sandy beaches along the sandbar. There are lot of seagulls flying alongside with the cruise boat. You can feed these seagulls. They fly close and take food from tourist hand. They are awful and with a sensational touch to your visit. A very rare opportunity and an unforgettable experience.
