History
Chippewa Falls was originally a lumber town that became a railroad town, even though the main railroad line of the 1870s went through Eau Claire, about 10 miles to the south. In 1870, the West Wisconsin Railway built a line from St. Paul, Minnesota, to Milwaukee through the area at Eau Claire. Following this, the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls Railway established a line running from Eau Claire to Chippewa Falls. In 1880, the CF&W was joined by the Wisconsin and Minnesota Railway pushing its way west from Abbotsford. This was followed in 1881 by the Chippewa Falls & Northern Railroad, which built a line north from Chippewa Falls to Bloomer, eventually being extended to Superior..... Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild : Give us a Lift
More than 10,000 people pass through the doors of The Grand each year. This venue is not only a place for children and adults to participate in the theatre arts but also has become a favorite venue for a variety of area performance groups. Unfortunately, its just not handicap accessible. This affects children and adults, people who use a wheelchair or walker, and folks who have difficulty climbing stairs. We really hate turning people away! We are working hard to raise $75,000 by next summer to purchase and install a platform lift that will give everyone access to the entire facility. We hope that you will consider being a part of this important endeavor. Donations can be made to the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild Elevator Fund to our office or even via PayPal. See if your employer offers charitable matching grants. Thank you to those individuals who have given already!

Caring for the Chippewa Valley
Data from the Wisconsin Hospital Association shows residents in Eau Claire and the Chippewa Valley face some of the highest health care costs in the state, and building a new hospital puts MCHS in a strong position to start to change that, said Dr. Susan Turney, MCHS CEO. Our 'Caring for the Chippewa Valley' program makes us a truly integrated local health care system. This allows MCHS to maximize efficiencies and start reducing patient costs while providing even higher quality care and a great patient experience.
