Chișinău/Moldova:
Chișinău also known formerly as Kishinev, is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Moldova. The city is Moldova's main industrial and commercial center, and is located in the middle of the country, on the river Bîc. According to the preliminary results of the 2014 census, the city of Chișinău is home to 492,894 residents. The estimated number of resident population in the Municipality of Chișinău (which includes other nearby communities), as of 1 January 2015, is 736,100.Chișinău is the most economically prosperous locality in Moldova and its largest transportation hub.
Chișinău is located on the river Bâc, a tributary of the Dniester, at 47°0′N 28°55′E, with an area of 120 square kilometres (46 sq mi). The municipality comprises 635 square kilometres (245 sq mi).
The city lies in central Moldova and is surrounded by a relatively level landscape with very fertile ground. Chișinău is governed by the City Council and the City Mayor (Romanian: Primar), both elected once every four years. The current mayor is Dorin Chirtoacă.His predecessor was Serafim Urechean. Under the Moldovan constitution, Urechean — elected to parliament in 2005 — was unable to hold an additional post to that of an MP. The Democratic Moldova Bloc leader subsequently accepted his mandate and in April resigned from his former position. During his 11-year term, Urechean committed himself to the restoration of the church tower of the Catedrala Nașterea Domnului and improvements in public transport.
The current mayor, Dorin Chirtoacă from the Liberal party, took office after elections in June 2007. Chirtoacă won reelections in June 2011, and June 2015.
Local governmentThe municipality in its totality elects a mayor and a local council, which then name five pretors, one for each sector. They deal more locally with administrative matters. Each sector claims a part of the city and several suburbs:
Rail
The second most popular form of domestic transportation within Moldova is via railways. The total length of the network managed by Moldovan Railway CFM (as of 2009) is 1,232 kilometers (766 miles). The entire network is single track and is not electrified. The central hub of all railways is Chișinău Central Railway Station. There is another smaller railway station - Revaca located on the city's ends.Chișinău Railway Station has an international railway terminal with connections to Bucharest, Kiev, Minsk, Odessa, Moscow, Samara, Varna and St. Petersburg. Due to the simmering conflict between Moldova and the unrecognised Transnistria republic the rail traffic towards Ukraine is occasionally stopped.Wikipedia

IR401 train arriving Chisinau Train Station, Moldova from Bucharest - January 2019
This is the IR401 Prietenia (friendship) train arriving from Bucharest into Gara Chisinau or Chisinau train station, capital of Moldova. It gets in around 1640 and leaves at 1656 back to Bucharest and arrives back there around 0630 next morning. I paid in Romanian Lei 599, about 125 Euro both ways in a single first class sleeper cabin. You can get as cheap as 38 Euro both ways in a 4 berth cabin or 19 Euro one way, still fairly comfortable and good for a group.
The single first class sleeper has two couches but if you pay the premium it will be just you. You have a mattress to put on top when ready to sleep and they give you a sealed pack with two sheets and one pillow case and there are an assortment of blankets stored in the overhead compartment you can use. I am not fussy being ex military and having roughed it around the world, but my advice, have a small lightweight sleeping bag and a blow up pillow. The pillows are fairly well used and the blankets are like horse hair.
The rest all ok for me, rustic and old school soviet train, but thats the beauty for me, experience it. Each carriage even in January winter was warm as toast, they have an old 'sorba' (coal heater) in each carriage fed by hand with coal continually and it heats the carriage like an oven. I had to keep window slightly open the whole way in my cabin even at -8 outside, so no problems keeping warm.
Take some food and snacks as you may not get a dining car, there is a samovar at the end of each carriage for hot water to make coffee or tea, noodles etc. No showers, but toilets worked fine, just take a spare toilet roll.
Many regular quick stops along the way and then the main stop in Ungheni, Romanian side for customs exit and then Ungheni on Moldovan side of the river for entry checks. Be prepared to answer questions, be prepared to have your passport taken for an hour or more as they process them and be prepared to maybe have your cabin emptied and searched for contraband. The train has been a known smuggling haven for hidden contraband and if they get intelligence or a tip off they will order you out of the cabin and search it.
Its a long process between both border checkpoints and its an experience for sure but a long one, as they also lift all carriages up on big jacks and change the wheels out as both countries have different gauges. All up a few hours and you have to stay on the train.
No negatives for me as I enjoy just experiencing things and take it as it comes. Overall was comfortable and cozy enough in winter but it is definitely retro.

Pociągi w Mołdawii / Trains in Moldova
[POL]
1:47 Kiszyniów, odjazd pociągu do Moskwy

Moldova does not have many tourist attractions. But if you love trains, you'll love it here. The total length of the railway network in Republic of Moldova is 1232 km. The entire network is not electrified. Below is link to the map of railroad network in Moldova:
The number of trains departing from Chisinau, capital of Moldavia, is not very large, a dozen a day. Some of them runs on selected days of the week.
Rolling stock: The most widespread type of traction unit is Soviet-built triple section 3TE10M. Their use in Moldova was motivated by steep gradients on some portions of the rail network (especially, in the regions with hilly terrains), where additional power was needed to pull heavy freight trains. I saw only one section in use - trains to/from Russia.
Other popular types of locomotives are M62, 2TE10L and belarusian CM33 locomotives.
Passanger trains: D1, manufactured by Hungarian Ganz-MAVAG. However, in 2012 it underwent complete modernization (as D1M) with most of the parts changed, including installation of a new engine by Volvo. In addition, the refurbished units were equipped with the air conditioning system, wireless internet access points, and the disability access ramps.
Movie releases in Republic of Moldova in October, 2017.
Filmed in location in Chisinau and Ungheni.
