Bromley is a district of south east London, England, located 9.3 miles south east of Charing Cross. Bromley is the administrative headquarters of the London Borough of Bromley, and identified as a major metropolitan centre in the London Plan.
Bromley was historically a market town chartered since 1158 and an ancient parish in the county of Kent. Its location on a coaching route and the opening of a railway station in 1858 were key to its development, and the economic history of Bromley is underpinned by a shift from an agrarian village to commerce and retail. As part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, Bromley significantly increased in population and was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1903.
Bromley has developed into one of a handful of regionally significant commercial and retail districts outside central London and has formed part of Greater London since 1965. Most of Bromley including the town centre falls under the BR1 postcode district, whereas areas to the west towards Shortlands are part of BR2 instead.
Bromley is located 9.3 miles (15 km) south east of Charing Cross and is one of the major metropolitan centres identified in the London Plan. Bromley is a post town in the BR postcode area, consisting of BR1 and part of the BR2 postcode district. BR1 covers Bromley, Bickley, Sundridge Park and part of Downham; and the BR2 portion covers Hayes, Shortlands, Bickley and Bromley Common.

Sunday September 9th 2012 was a gloriously sunny day in south east England and we had a wonderful afternoon of Pimms and lemonade, ice cream, children playing and dancing, families picnicking and live music in the sunshine.
Thanks to Kent Open Mic for inviting us and to Croydon Road Recreation Ground for welcoming us to the Bandstand Marathon event today. Thanks to all the lovely people who listened to us play, and thanks to all the other performers, whose music we enjoyed after our set.
Thanks to Johnny Boy James for recording this video for us.

Lyrics:
It's been a long time now, you've been hiding here alone,
But if you never leave, how can you come home?
And if the world outside doesn't frighten you at all,
Why do you leave your dreams hanging with your coat in the hall?
Put them on, step outside, it's a brand new day,
Come alive, come alive.
You're still hiding here with your wishes, in the dark,
Watching them fade away, you're watching a dying spark.
Closing your ears to the whispers, closing your eyes to the light,
Keeping the world at a distance, safe in your lonely night.
Oh, step outside, it's a brand new day,
Come alive, come alive.
Wrapped and folded, stored so neatly, on your shelf,
Cold and chaste, and gone to waste, those kisses you kept to yourself.
Wishes stored like jewellery, saved up for some rainy day,
Put them on and let them shine, let hope not fear show you the way.
Step outside, it's a brand new day,
Come alive, come alive.
Put them on, give yourself a chance,
Don't worry if it's raining, just walk barefoot on the grass,
Step outside, this is a brand new day.

Scadbury Moated Manor
Scadbury Manor is a medieval moated manor house site in Chislehurst, Kent currently being excavated by the Orpington and District Archaeological Society (ODAS). It is situated in Scadbury Park Local Nature Reserve in the London Borough of Bromley.
Scadbury is usually associated with the Walsingham family who may have come originally from Little Walsingham in Norfolk. The first clear mention of the name occurs in 1424 when Thomas Walsingham (d.1457), a wealthy vintner from the City of London, bought the manor from a certain Thomas Dale. We do not know to what extent Thomas Walsingham actually resided at Scadbury, because he also maintained a house at St. Katherine’s by the Tower where he and his wife Katherine were buried. Fortunately we have Thomas’s will dated 15th March 1456, which besides his Scadbury house also mentions “Sr Thomas Sutton my prest atte Scatbury”, implying that there was a private chapel there.

Foots Cray Meadows have been an important recreational facility within Bexley since just after the Second World War, providing a Park and Open Space with a historical pedigree. The Five Arch Bridge and Stable Block are, however, all that remain of the eighteenth century Footscray Place estate buildings.

Places to see in ( Welling - UK )
Welling is a town in the London Borough of Bexley approximately 10.5 miles east-southeast of Charing Cross, the traditional centre of London. Welling also lies within the historic county of Kent. The East Wickham part of Welling is probably one of the oldest settlements in this area. A Neolithic stone axe was found in East Wickham in 1910, and remains of Roman buildings were unearthed near Danson in 1989.
Before opening of the Bexleyheath Line on 1 May 1895, Welling was a village on the main road from London into Kent (Watling Street). It had been a traditional staging post for coaches; the presence of three inns along the main road is the result of that. Local legend has it that Welling is so called because in the era of horse-drawn vehicles, it could be said you were well in to Kent, or had a well end to the journey up and down Shooters Hill which, at the time was steep, had a poor road surface and was a notorious haunt of highwaymen.
However, local historians have recently concluded that the origin of the name is most likely from 'Welwyn' (meaning 'place of the spring'), due to the existence of an underground spring located at Welling Corner, or possibly a manorial reference to the Willing family, who lived in the area in 1301. Welling is home of the football ground of Welling United F.C. which is shared with the Erith and Belvedere F.C.
A large Russian gun is located at Welling corner. This Russian weapon is a 36-pounder carronade (calibre 6.75 inches - weight 17 cwt) of a type used during the Crimean War (1854 to 1860), displayed on a simple wooden replica carriage. The carronade was in service from 1780 to 1860 and is now on loan from the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich as a reminder of Welling's early association with the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, when huts at East Wickham were built as homes for munitions workers in the Great War.

Lodge Road,Bromley,Kent
Handsomely set in a slightly elevated position this five bedroom detached property is set back from the road and is approached by a long winding driveway. The front garden is secure, lending itself to be used for recreation as well as the good sized rear garden. On entering the house you are greeted by a capacious entrance hall with oak staircase leading to a galleried landing on the first floor where the master bedroom has a dressing area leading into the en-suite bathroom. The ground floor accommodation includes three reception rooms, a study, kitchen, utility and cloakroom. Ample parking is provided by the integral double garage. The location is excellent as this family home is set in one of Sundridge Park's most prestigious unmade roads within 0.25 of a mile of Sundridge Park Golf Club and Tennis Club. Convenient for Sundridge Park station and local schools including Scotts Park and Breaside. An early viewing of this end of chain property is highly recommended.
