A Robot That Cooks Japanese Okonomiyaki Pancakes
At FOOMA JAPAN 2009, Toyo Riki, a robot system integrator, demonstrated a robot that makes savory pancakes while communicating with people.
The robot uses the MOTOMAN from Yaskawa Electric. It has 15 joints in its arms and back, so it can move its arms and change posture like a human. The robot also has speech recognition and synthesis, so it can take people’s orders, including their desired seasonings, respond to requests, and sing songs.

Japan engineers create robot that transforms into car with men on-board
Japanese engineers unveiled on Wednesday (April 25) a robot that transforms into a car that can actually carry people on board, in what they said was the first-ever such accomplishment in the history of robots.
The 3.7-metre (12.1-feet)-tall two-seater robot J-deite RIDE can transform into a sportscar in a process that takes about a minute. It can technically walk at 30 km/h (18.6 mph) or run on its four wheels but developers said they've never really tested it outside the factory cargo bay area.
CEO of Brave Robotics, Kenji Ishida, who initiated the co-project with Asratec, an affiliate of the Japanese mobile phone giant SoftBank, and a roller coaster manufacturer Sansei Technologies, said he was motivated by his childhood transformer heroes in anime movies.
While admitting that it may seem like an expensive toy, Ishida said the robot is an attempt to inspire others and broaden the human imagination. Developers said they will begin with utilizing the technology in entertainment industry, such as amusement park and street parades.
NO SUNSET
Saturday, October 13th, 2018, Elizabeth and Michael went to New York City on a train. From Penn Station they took a yellow taxi to Museum of Modern Art. After MoMA, they went to the Italian restaurant for pizza, and later they walked to Time Square. They posed for some pictures with action figures from Batman, and with naked girls with painted breasts. The girls wanted more money. This was Michael’s first lesson about women.
After TS, they walked to the Rockefeller Plaza and watched people ice skating in the ring. Prometheus was looking at them from above. He wanted to set the ice ring on fire stolen from the gods.
Later they took an express elevator to the top of the Rock. There was a beautiful view over Central Manhattan, but they were late for a sunset. The main reason for a visit to the top of the Rock, was to take a time lapse video of the New York while sun goes down.

14. SOUNDBITE: (Japanese) Takanobu Ito, CEO of Honda Motor Company Ltd:
We are speeding up the advancement in robotics when our robots get closer to mimicking real human movements. In the process of the research to bring robots to be helpers of people's lifestyles, we encounter many scenes that Asimo could come in use. A good example is like the current disaster we faced. Not only the possibilities of helping getting inside the nuclear power plant, but also our robots can go into sites that normal people cannot have access to. It gives us the chance to prove our accomplishments.

STORYLINE
Honda's human-shaped robot Asimo can now run faster, balance itself on uneven surfaces, hop on one foot, open a bottle and pour a drink and even almost think on its own.
Honda Motor Company demonstrated the revamped Asimo on Tuesday at its Tokyo suburban research facility, making the bubble-headed childlike machine walk, run and hop around to show the humanoid was now smarter and more agile.
In Tuesday's demonstration, Asimo was able to walk without falling over 2 centimetre (0.8 inch) padded bumps on the floor.
It can also now jog faster than it did in 2005, at 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) per hour, instead of the earlier 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) per hour, pushing better with its toes so its run was smoother and not as jerky.
The new Asimo has improved hands, allowing individual movement of each finger.
It was able to open a thermos bottle and gracefully pour juice into a paper cup.
Asimo was also able to distinguish the voices of three people spoken at once, using face recognition and analysing sound.
It was a way to try to answer some critics that Asimo, first shown in 2000, had been of little practical use so far, proving to be nothing more than a glorified toy and cute showcase for the Honda brand.
Honda said some of Asimo's technology was used to develop a robotic arm in just six months with the intention of helping with the nuclear crisis in northeastern Japan.
The mechanical arm can open and close valves at Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, which went into meltdown after the March tsunami, a Honda spokesman said.
The automaker is working with the utility behind the problem plant, Tokyo Electric Power Company, to try to meet demands to bring the plant under control.
It is the first time in four years that Asimo has been upgraded.

Amazing Technology Invented By MIT - Tangible Media
At the MIT Media Lab, the Tangible Media Group believes the future of computing is tactile. Unveiled today, the inFORM is MIT's new scrying pool for imagining the interfaces of tomorrow. Almost like a table of living clay, the inFORM is a surface that three-dimensionally changes shape, allowing users to not only interact with digital content in meatspace, but even hold hands with a person hundreds of miles away. And that's only the beginning.
Created by Daniel Leithinger and Sean Follmer and overseen by Professor Hiroshi Ishii, the technology behind the inFORM isn't that hard to understand. It's basically a fancy Pinscreen, one of those executive desk toys that allows you to create a rough 3-D model of an object by pressing it into a bed of flattened pins. With inFORM, each of those pins is connected to a motor controlled by a nearby laptop, which can not only move the pins to render digital content physically, but can also register real-life objects interacting with its surface thanks to the sensors of a hacked Microsoft Kinect.

STORYLINE
Bosnian rescue services evacuated patients from remote villages in the east of the country, as more snowfall covered the area.
Dozens of patients with kidney and heart problems were taken by medevac from Kalinovik, which is cut-off from the rest of the country by heavy snowfall.
Hundreds of villages were stuck behind snowed-in roads and avalanches and authorities were using helicopters to evacuate the sick and also deliver food.
Authorities said they have had no contact for 72 hours with about 120 people in the central village of Zijemlja, where residents have no electricity or phone lines.
Some 200 centimetres of snow fell in past 48 hours, and more is expected on Monday.
Europeans across the continent were digging out from heavy snow after a week of bitter cold in which the number of dead, most of them homeless, continued to rise by the day.
The big freeze has caused traffic chaos throughout Europe, blocking roads, shutting down airports, and trapping thousands in remote mountain villages in the Balkans.
At the Sarajevo zoo, an exhibition of life-size dinosaur replicas that attracted over 10-thousand people in the first few days after opening, had almost no visitors since the weather took a turn for the worst.
The now snow-covered replicas, provided by the Sprengel Museum of Hannover, sat just meters (yards) away from the cages of real animals which collapsed under the weight of the snow, forcing the zoo to move them indoors.
Monkeys huddled together on top of radiators and in the reptile enclosure, a python slept between two heaters.

Why knights? The main reason that played here was the material (available). Once there was a time when a lot of washing machines were being thrown out and electric irons, that is a heating device. So, I was thinking about where I could use them. And it occurred to me that I could do something with a historical theme - antiquity.
