Hokkaido, Japan: Unique Chitose Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival
Lake Shikotsu was our first Ice Festival in Hokkaido on a bitterly cold day with wind gusts whipping across the lake. I felt so sorry for the poor workers! This is small festival with gorgeous ice caves, icicles and sculptures.
And green me is not channeling Kermit the Frog or Elphaba in Wicked. Lights reflecting off Reindeer Moss in the cave gave a green look to everything!

A trip to Lake Shikotsu in Hokkaido − The magical, dynamic Chitose Shikotsuko Hyoto Festival
Chitose Shikotsuko Hyoto Festival is a winter tradition at Lake Shikotsu. Visitors can enjoy the sheer variety of ice sculptures, which are created by spraying layers of lake water and allowing it to freeze, and winter activities. In 2017, 260,000 tourists visited the festival. Many of them enjoyed the magical atmosphere surrounded by ice sculptures.

Last weekend for Valentine's Day my bf took me to Chitose city to see the Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival (Shikotsu-ko Hyoto Matsuri)!
Hokkaido has many awesome winter festivals in February. I highly recommend checking them out if you ever visit.
The ice festival is held in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, located about an hour away by car from Sapporo city. There are lines of ice sculptures made by spraying water from Lake Shikotsu and freezing it.
From 18:30 on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays during the event period, there is the launching of around 300 fireworks, as well as Wadaiko drum performances.
Cost: 300円
Lake Shikotsu is surrounded by three mountains: Mount Eniwadake, Mount Fuppushidake, and Mount Tarumaezan.
The event is from January 29th to February 21st.

Lake Shikotsu hot springs in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, located about 40 minutes away by car from Sapporo city. There are lines of ice sculptures made by spraying water from Lake Shikotsu, which boasts some of the clearest water in Japan, and freezing it.
The ice slide, the rink where you can slide around in boots, and the horse rides around the venue are popular with children.
From 18:30 on Saturdays and Sundays during the event period, there is the launching of around 300 fireworks, as well as Wadaiko drum performances.
The hot springs around the venue also offer baths for day trippers, so after you have warmed your cold body up, enjoy a meal and choosing souvenirs in the hot spring town.

Shikotsu-Ko Tsuruga Resort Spa Mizu No Uta via Hawaiian Airlines
We hopped on Hawaiian Airlines Flight 441 to Sapporo and headed back to Hokkaido Japan for the second time this year. With the seasons changing over to spring most of the snow was melted away but the weather was still nice and cool.
We Visited Lake Shikotsu-Ko and stayed at Shikotsu Ko Tsuruga Resort Spa Mizu No Uta. This area was more in the country and away from the busy city life. The resort has a shuttle bus that pick up at Chitose Airport and Chitose Station. The resort staff was very friendly and always smiling. We stayed in their Japanese Western Style room with private hot spring. Nothing better than having to private hot spring right in your room. What better way just to relax and take in the beauty of Japans country side.

湖畔に幻想世界、氷像ずらり 千歳・支笏湖氷濤まつり開幕へ （2017/01/26）北海道新聞
冬の湖畔を彩る２０１７千歳・支笏湖氷濤（ひょうとう）まつり（実行委主催）が１月２７日に開幕するのを前に、千歳市支笏湖温泉の会場で２６日、氷像をライトアップする試験点灯を行った。氷像は「支笏湖ブルー」と呼ばれる透明度の高い湖水を大量にくみ上げて、１カ月かけて骨組みに吹きかけて作った。試験点灯では、赤や緑など七色の光に照らされた大小３０基の氷像が幻想的に浮かび上がった。２月１９日まで。ライトアップは午後４時半～同１０時。入場無料。土曜・日曜は同６時半から花火を打ち上げる。

This is it the final day of living in a van in Japan. Today was a simple day returning the car. we went from Shiranuka back to where we started in Chitose.
