Chitwan National Park is the first national park in Nepal. It was established in 1973 and granted the status of a World Heritage Site in 1984. It covers an area of 952.63 km2 and is located in the subtropical Inner Terai lowlands of south-central Nepal in the districts of Nawalpur, Parsa, Chitwan and Makwanpur. In altitude it ranges from about 100 m in the river valleys to 815 m in the Churia Hills.In the north and west of the protected area the Narayani-Rapti river system forms a natural boundary to human settlements. Adjacent to the east of Chitwan National Park is Parsa National Park, contiguous in the south is the Indian Tiger Reserve Valmiki National Park. The coherent protected area of 2,075 km2 represents the Tiger Conservation Unit Chitwan-Parsa-Valmiki, which covers a 3,549 km2 huge block of alluvial grasslands and subtropical moist deciduous forests.

It was established in 1973 and granted the status of a World Heritage Site in 1984. It covers an area of 932 km2 (360 sq mi) and is located in the subtropical Inner Terai lowlands of south-central Nepal in the districts of Nawalparasi, Parsa, Chitwan and Makwanpur. In altitude it ranges from about 100 m (330 ft) in the river valleys to 815 m (2,674 ft) in the Churia Hills.[1]

Chitin Gaida Lodge, Sarah - really cool spot!
Very good choice for Sauraha stay. First surprise - we didn't expect that but there was a jeep waiting for us at the bus station so no problem for getting from there to the lodge. Second surprise - room standard much better than in most of the places we stayed in Kathmandu. You would think it should be in opposite way. Located close to the park entrance, covered with green trees, quiet and peaceful. Nice place for relax. Friendly staff, hot water, tasty restaurant, wide selection of tours and trips. Highly recommended!

Elephant feeding in Chitwan National Park-Sauraha Chitwan Nepal

One of the most popular national park in Nepal which is quite famous for Rhinos. Similar to Bardia National Park, as it offers jungle activities for your adventurous trip.

The elephant breeding center is quite good as they are able to protect and breed baby elephants, but somehow nailing elephant made us sad, but we feel happy as they are looking after the elephants.

The elephant safari is one of the best ways to spot wildlife from up close. Because the elephants can come close to other animals without them noticing that there are people on the elephants back, you can come up to 1 meter from other animals.

During the trip, you are never alone. The rider sits in the front and next to him; you are always accompanied by professional guides and naturalists.

Tip: On the back of an elephant you can get very close to the wildlife. Beware that you have to be very quiet to do so! One sound and you will scare of the tigers, rhino’s, deer’s or one of the other animals.
