Discover Queensland - Travelogue featuring Chocolate Country, Poets Cafe, Secrets on the Lake
A travelogue myself and two others students created for an assignment. It features the three amazing locations of Chocolate Country, Poets Cafe and Secrets on the Lake. A big thank you to those locations for allowing us to film!
Sunshine Coast beach cafe, One on La Balsa, Queensland
meets Australian Surf Lifesaving champion, Jeff Lemarseny, at cafe One on La Balsa in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.
Transcript:
The Sunshine Coast is full of fantastic beaches.
You've probably heard of Noosa Beach or Mooloolaba Beach but my favourite beach is Kawana Beach. Kawana Beach is also the stomping ground of Australian Surf lifesaving champion Jeff Lemarseny.
If you come here of a morning and look at the ocean, you'll probably see Jeff training hard for his next event.
I'm about to go and meet Jeff at the cafe he owns with his wife, Dani. It's called One on La Balsa.
Hi Christina, how are you doing? Good to see you. Come and have coffee with us.
So you liked it so much you built a cafe here?
That's correct. My background is a building background. The council at the time had a pretty good plan set up to develop commercial pockets in the area. More commmercial pockets. It's a cafe with four apartments.
We have a huge local following from the surrounding area. From day one it really kicked.Myself and my wife, Dani, and our manager Nicki, run it with a staff of approximately 18 all locally employed people.
The food is traditional breakfast meals, bacon and eggs and there's also specials like corn cakes. Lunches are an array of chicken, steak, seafood and we have three specials every day. And a huge selection of cakes and the best coffee on the coast.
That's funny though. Our cakes are pretty healthy. A lot are gluten free and a fair few are sugar free. A lot love goes into our product.
In this business we have play and work combines together. Saturday and Sunday is a fantastic time as we are mixing with a lot of local people through the cafe have become our friends.
That's why we try and keep it to the basics. Good healthy food.
How about your top tips on what to do on the Sunshine Coast? Five things that you really like.
The Sunshine Coast has 50 things I like. My love of the ocean always means I'm out on the ocean. Even taking trips to Noosa is a favourite. There's the markets at Noosa. Even going to Montville or Maleny.
If a friend of yours was coming up from Sydney, where would you take them?
If a friend of mine was coming up from Sydney you'd have to go up to Noosa, I'd go to the beach, up the river, if you have a boat go fishing, walk the point, Point Cartwright. The coast is one of those places you don't need to plan. You can just come here and chill out.
Hi, I'm Dani. I look forward to seeing you at One on La Balsa soon.

Raw Silk was a dynamic trio whose love of singing, folk songs, and fun, was palpable, and who sang around SE Qld 2000-2003.
Down the Road ... is based on a traditional African-American kidz song, adapted from Sweet Honey in the Rock's rendition.
R/S's verses are sung : 1st Richenda / 2nd Jenny / 3rd Carmel.
This is taken from their promo-bio :
RAW SILK hail from the rolling green hills of Maleny in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The members are - in order of height :)
Carmel Givens, Richenda Bridge, Jenny Fitzgibbon [ a highly acclaimed Celtic songstress! ]
The girls all love to sing, especially in the company of friends and with a good strong coffee, a glass of the rich ruby red, lots of laughter – and not forgetting those other 3 important “C”s : chocolate, cake and chat!!!
Ahhhhh ... now what more could a girl desire???!!!!!
ENJOY!!
More from these girls will be uploaded later on!

Exclusive Awe-Inspiring Sanctuary in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Presented by Sotheby's International Realty Canada
For more information go to
What if... you could acquire the most incredibly private sanctuary, within 20 minutes of downtown and your only visible neighbours would be your other two acreages? In total, there are 3 separate titles, over 14 acres, a 9000 sq. ft., custom built West Coast home, another self-contained Guest House, working 12 stall paddock/barn and Greenhouse. The main residence is nothing less than spectacular, 2 levels melding indigenous materials of stone, fir and glass, spilling onto the maturely planted grounds of both native and specimen plantings, with natural and man-made water features. The homes are mechanically superior and the seamless marriage of West Coast architecture and Japanese influence create the perfect backdrop for this one and only retreat. Never before offered as one estate, possibilities are endless and with RS3 zoning the future potential, if important, could be tremendous. This really could be the last of its kind and is truly a Lower Mainland trophy.

You can have your choice of fillings cream with either Nutella, Jam or custard.
