6:30 a.m. Toyoko Inn breakfast. I looked around and folks were eating curry/rice – I guess I missed the curry on the 1st pass so had to go back up and get a small bowl to try it out. ONO! Went down to the train station and picked up an all-day pass. Hopped on the bus and got off at the Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel stop. This tunnel goes under the water and you can walk from Honshu to Kyushu for free. Lots of people walking pretty fast – looks like for some this is their regular exercise path. Got up roadside on the Kyushu side, watched the tides going out for a while. The water flows pretty fast and it changes tides about 4 times daily. Since this is the narrow part of the strait, it looks like a river flowing. Really fast flow! Enough. I went back into the tunnel to walk back to the Shimonoseki side. Took me 9-minutes each way. The tunnel is about 780-meters long (a little less than ½-mile one way). Jumped on the bus and got off in Chofu castle town. This town has a lot of history from B.C. times and they had a federal government back in 7 A.D. However, not much has been preserved so you a fairly modern suberb. I by-passed the History Museum and visited the Kozanji Temple. It was built around 1320 and is a national treasure. Visited Shozanji Temple and then found a quaint café. Stopped for lunch. More BURA-BURA then back on the bus. Stopped at the Akama Shrine which is dedicated to Emporer Antoku. Finally went around near the hotel looking for dinner.

The Rugby World Cup, the Tokyo Olympics and Changing Japan (G1 Global 2019)
G1 Global Conference @GLOBIS Tokyo, Sept. 16, 2019.
The Rugby World Cup…the Olympics and Paralympics… Global sporting events are coming to Japan, and the people here are uniting to elevate the country’s global standing, a symbol of its recovery from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Japanese are welcoming the world, breaking down language barriers, making the subway easier to use, and even upgrading anti-smoking laws. Other nations and athletes, too, are excited to make their mark during these events…but there is a fine line between a festival of nations and a festival of nationalism. As Japan globalizes, its traditions, reputation, and even identity change. How will Japan, as the host, be perceived during and after these events? How will its status as a global leader be when the games are through? Can the government and event organizers leverage today’s momentum to achieve wider social goals and ambitions tomorrow? Panelists will discuss how hosting global sporting events may transform Japanese society and its image in the world.

Love, doraemon, smilies in the fireworks. Amazing Fireworks in Japan.
Chofu City Fireworks Festival happens on the grassy banks of the Tama River (downstream from the bridge on the Keio Sagamihara Line). The opening ceremony begins at 5pm and the explosions start from 5:30pm.
Despite being a lesser-known festival, the organizers aren’t skimping on the number of fireworks. 10,000 individual fireworks will go up in flames in front of an estimated audience of 35,000 people.
The nearest stations are Keio Tamagawa Station (5-minute walk) and Chofu Station (20-minute walk).
【Minato City Promotion Movie】be touched ~Touching experiences~ (English/ Standard ver/100sec.)ver.1
We created the Minato City Promotion Movie for the many tourists who visit Minato City from both Japan and overseas. The Movie encapsulates the appeal of Minato City's people, towns, history, culture, and nature.
The keyword of the movie is touch, both in the physical and emotional sense. The movie presents the Minato City residents, who enagage in warm exchanges using touch, such as with high fives and handshakes.
