Preparing the clay -- part 1
Clay artist, Alycia Pamphile, shows how to gather and get the clay ready for vessel making. The clay is dug from the ground in the nearby area of Choiseul and then is worked by hand to get it ready. Preparing the clay involves pounded it to mix it up and make the right consistency for working it. This is hard work and everything is done by hand.

Coronado Quadrille
This quadrille has the active couples (heads or sides) Promenade half and the the active Ladies Chain to their right. This is seldom done in MWDing today. However, the action is very smooth.
Coronado Quadrille was written by Don Armstrong. The music of the same name may be downloaded from the Lloyd Shaw Foundation website.
This performance was given at the National Square Dance Convention in 2008 in Wichita, KS. The performance was in a professional theater.
The Director and Narrator for the performance was Calvin Campbell. The dancers were drawn from three performance exhibition teams from the Denver area of Colorado. The names of the three dance troupes were Colorado Dancers, High Country Dancers and the Colorado Rocky Mountain Dancers.
This video was edited from a longer 1 hour and 15 minute presentation about square dancing in the Midwest and West. The full presentation is available on DVD and Blue Ray from Calvin Campbell the author of Dancing for Busy People. To see similar dances go to the book Dancing For Busy People and view the blog DFBP.

JEAN-BAPTISTE PAINTING ON SILK - PARROTFISH
Textile artist Daniel Gabriel Angelo Jean-Baptiste was born on the Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia , in 1963, to parents of Dutch Jewish and African Carib descent.
Jean-Baptiste childhood experience was that of a tiny one street Village of Choiseul, under the shadow of the towering Gros Piton. Spare time was spent fishing off the village’s long wooden jetty, which gave Jean-Baptiste first glimpses of the colorful creatures that inhabited the Caribbean Sea. The plants and fish that intrigued the young boy would later dominate his art. Childhood days were sweet, sweet as perfumed breezes of Saint Lucia.
Jean-Baptiste uses tropical nature as his inspiration and silk as his Canvas. Visit these sites for more information on his silk paintings.

Tao flows gracefully
On a yin tide
Matter and energy
Dancing with purpose
Creating a bigger picture
The universe reaffirms itself
Repeatedly becoming
Followed by an unbecoming
None are spared
All enjoy the ride
Surrender a dirty word
In a yang world
Although the Tao flows
Through submission
Like osmosis
The womb of creation
Ever fertile
Ever green
Begets existence
Nourishes with love
Eternity a breath away
Nirvana even closer
Acceptance the key
Creation constantly evolving
Becoming the future
Lovers unite Heaven and Earth
Yin with Yang
Balance unforeseen
Discovered serendipitously
In groaning bliss
Union turns to ecstasy
Souls merged
Passion released
Liberation attained
Resigned to the Tao

Grande Anse, St Lucia Full Video
Grande Anse comprises approximately 1,600 stunning, undeveloped acres ideally suited for a premiere nature reserve and sustainable Eco‐resort development community. The approximate one and a quarter mile long sandy beach is one of the most picturesque and dramatic in St. Lucia, perhaps in the entire Caribbean. The cool Trade Winds of the Atlantic and the extensive reef creates a continuous mesmerizing surf. Even in its natural state, the extraordinary beauty of this coastal landscape is truly breath‐taking.
This exceptional, remote property is contoured as a natural amphitheater, with mountain ridges on three sides which all focus on the expansive ocean activity. Significant mitigating engineering will be required for SAFE swimming. From every angle, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the beach. The highest elevation is about 1,200 ft above sea level. The main valley offers hundreds of acres of flat land, including about 60 acres of beachfront property, known as the Queen's Chain.
Three small streams run through the property. Two form lagoons on the Grande Anse Beach; an addition to the landscape and an area of potential architectural interest. Most of the property is forested with coconut palms, other exotic fruit trees and secondary tropical growth, though there has been some deforestation and clearing of land. A diversity of lush plant and wildlife can be found on the estate. The beach is an important nesting ground for the giant Leatherback turtle, which lays its eggs during the period from March to August. This is an exciting attraction for guests. The turtles are protected by law, and the Desbarras Turtle Watch is organized by the community of Desbarras. The property also contains one of the island's significant archeological sites dating back to the period of the Amerindian. The pre-Columbian theme could be optimized in a project design concept.
Large, stunning and undeveloped tracts of land on choice Caribbean islands are virtually non‐ existent today. This is an unprecedented opportunity for a premiere resort community development which embraces discriminating market appeal, significant environmental conservation, conscientious design planning, and St. Lucia's rich heritage.
Due to the size and nature of the property, a mixed, responsible, land use, encompassing many activities is envisioned. In order to maximize its unique potential, large green belt and Nature Reserve areas must be included in the master plan. Possible modules within large, unspoiled natural spaces are:
•Several resorts, ranging from a signature, flag ship hotel to low impact eco‐lodges, recreation of a Taino Indian village
•Condominium, luxury villas, vacation homes and homesites
•Retirement community compound
•Multi‐purpose convention center, supper club and entertainment facility
•Commercial village with retail, art galleries, banking, restaurants, concierge and amenities
•Wildlife refuge, Nature Reserve, Visitor education, conservation protection workshops, and learning and cultural exchange facilities
•Health and fitness center, medical clinic, spa, and executive rehab unit
•Horseback riding, hiking trails, campsites, sports and recreation facilities
•Green energy production, produce gardens, maintenance compound, and staff housing

SILK FINE ART - JEAN-BAPTISTE
Daniel Jean-Baptiste is a Caribbean artist living in the paradise of St. Lucia where sunny skies and abundant water life provide constant inspiration. His artwork depict underwater scenes, game fish and their prey, tropical botanical themes and exotic animals.
Daniel’s childhood was spent fishing off the wooden jetty in the tiny fishing village of Choiseul. The sea became his second home and he spent hours under the blistering sun gazing at the vibrant colours of tiny wrasse attacking his bait. To Daniel, fishing was much more than catching fish; he found the whole experience exhilarating and painting became a way of capturing a tiny part of this bliss.
Daniel is constantly inspired by his island home, but laments that most people become so accustomed to their surroundings that they overlook the exquisite beauty around them. Through his artwork he hopes to reignite an awakening to this free gift, and urges us to take a moment to notice the colours and dancing light next time we go fishing. This is the lighting effect he strives to capture in his art.
Besides his unique artistry, what makes Daniel’s creations particularly special is his use of 10mm Habotai silk as his canvas. The silk’s translucency and natural luster enhance the colours and add a special vibrancy.
Jean-Baptiste uses tropical nature as his inspiration and silk as his Canvas.
