Chomphet Trail / Luang Prabang, Laos
Unfortunately it does't happen too often, that I ride for pure joy. Usually I ride from A to B on the quest to travel around the world. Sure it's fun, but without all the luggage it's more fun. Today I took the time to ride just for pleasure without any other purpose.
I definitely should do this more often!

Luang Prabang, Laos - Ferry Crossing to Chomphet.
Chomphet is located directly across the Mekong River from Luang Prabang.
The vehicle Ferry leaves from the river bank below the main ticket office.
A Ferry would arrive every few minutes and pause just long enough to empty and leave again with a load of cars, trucks, motorbikes and assorted passengers.
The fare for one person is 10,000 Kip. For local citizens this includes a motorcycle.
It is a relatively short ride but not a direct one. To compensate for the flow of the river, the Captain heads upstream to then drift back to the landing point.
Disembarking is complicated by a steep and slippery dirt track to the top bank.
At the top of the river bank was a local fresh produce market area and it was a pleasant surprise to see no hint of tourist orientated products.
Strolling around the small community felt very comfortable and was certainly interesting. There is a central area with a school, shops and a 'Bus Station'
Closer to the river is the residential area, a contradiction of Satellite TV for entertainment and firewood for cooking, an assortment of poultry and a very busy Mum with pups .
I briefly considered a different form or transport for the trip back but settled for the safety of the larger Ferry.
