Tenno-ji Temple - Nippori, Tokyo ●
► Tenno-ji is a very small, quite average and nothing out of the ordinary little temple I stumbled upon by chance a few days ago, when I was walking around some small alleys in Nippori, eastern Tokyo. The main prayer room is really nothing special and it's even quite new. But what I DID liked about the compound, was the nice little annex buildings in traditional Japanese style where the monks lives and works, with the neatly kept bushes & trees and combed sand/gravel. The buddha greeting you by the entrance is quite impressive as well, standing 5 meters/15 ft. tall, so I decided to make this short video of it. - Enjoy!

1 - 4K Ultra HD
Part 2 of this video is available here :
Massive...this is how we could best describe the sheer size (534,000m2) and the many attractions to be found in this park. Established in 1873, Ueno Park is among Japan’s first public parks and home of some major museums like the Tokyo National Museum, National Science Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, National Museum of Western Art, Shitamachi Museum, several temples and even a zoo!
It would be impossible to cover all aspects of this park in a single day, so we decided to divide our attention on the cultural aspects of this park and its temples with the following:
- Kiyomizu Kannon Temple (Part 1)
- Hanazono inari Temple (Part 1)
- Gojoten Temple (Part 1)
- Toshogu Shrine (Part 2)
- Ueno Park Pagoda (Part 2)
- Bentendo Temple and the Shinobazu Pond (Part 2)
While these temples and places are on the Ueno Park “Must See” list, we would also recommend visiting:
- Kaneiji Temple
- Ueno Daibutsu
Kiyomizu Kannon Temple:
Originally built in 1631 and part of the Kaneji temple, the Kiyomizu Kannon Temple get it’s design and architecture from the famous Kiyomizu-dera temple in Kyoto and is also home to an image of Kosodate Kannon (Goddess of child-rearing) and a figure of Senju Kannon (Thousand Armed Goddess of Mercy).
Gojoten and Hanazono inari Temple:
A few meters away from the Kiyomizu Kannon you will find both the Gojoten and Hanazono inari Temples, the Fox Temple. Both temples are actually close to each other and can be mistaken for the one and only place of worship.
The Gotojen temple is dedicated to the Scholar and poet Sugawara no Michizane (August 1, 845 - March 26, 903) and located close to the Shinobazu Pond, while the Hanazono inari Temple is dedicated to the Inari Okami, or spirit of the foxes, and can be accessed by a gorgeous series of Japanese Torii.

☆Bits of knowledge〜Nezu-Shrine〜
The Nezu-jinja Shrine is said to have been established over 1,900 years ago by the legendary priest Yamato Takeru no Mikoto in Sendagi with Susanoo no Mikoto as the chief deity. In the Edo Period (1603-1868), the 5th shogun Tsunayoshi relocated it from Sendagi to Nezu to commemorate the adoption of Ienobu as his successor and the 6th shogun Ienobu chose it as the guardian deity.

Japan Trip 2013 Hongo Campus University of Tokyo 17
University of Tokyo
The University of Tokyo (東京大学 Tōkyō daigaku), abbreviated as Todai (東大 Tōdai?), is a research university located in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan. The University has 10 faculties with a total of around 30,000 students, 2,100 of whom are foreign. Its five campuses are in Hongō, Komaba, Kashiwa, Shirokane and Nakano. It is the first of Japan's National Seven Universities, and is considered the most prestigious university in Japan. It ranks as the highest in Asia and 21st in the world according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2013.
History
The university was chartered by the Meiji government in 1877 under its current name by amalgamating older government schools for medicine and Western learning. It was renamed the Imperial University (帝國大學 Teikoku daigaku?) in 1886, and then Tokyo Imperial University (東京帝國大學 Tōkyō teikoku daigaku?) in 1897 when the Imperial University system was created. In September 1923, an earthquake and the following fires destroyed about 700,000 volumes of the Imperial University Library.[6] The books lost included the Hoshino Library (星野文庫 Hoshino bunko?), a collection of about 10,000 books. The books were the former possessions of Hoshino Hisashi before becoming part of the library of the university and were mainly about Chinese philosophy and history.
In 1947, after Japan's defeat in World War II, it re-assumed its original name. With the start of the new university system in 1949, Todai swallowed up the former First Higher School (today's Komaba campus) and the former Tokyo Higher School, which henceforth assumed the duty of teaching first- and second-year undergraduates, while the faculties on Hongo main campus took care of third- and fourth-year students.
Although the university was founded during the Meiji period, it has earlier roots in the Astronomy Agency (天文方; 1684), Shoheizaka Study Office (昌平坂学問所; 1797), and the Western Books Translation Agency (蕃書和解御用; 1811).[8] These institutions were government offices established by the 徳川幕府 Tokugawa shogunate (1603--1867), and played an important role in the importation and translation of books from Europe.
Kikuchi Dairoku, an important figure in Japanese education, served as president of Tokyo Imperial University.
For the 1964 Summer Olympics, the university hosted the running portion of the modern pentathlon event.
On 20 January 2012, Todai announced that it would shift the beginning of its academic year from April to September to align its calendar with the international standard. The shift would be phased in over five years.
According to the Japan Times, the university had 1,282 professors in February 2012. Of those, 58 were women.
In the fall of 2012 and for the first time, the University of Tokyo started two undergraduate programs entirely taught in English and geared toward international students — Programs in English at Komaba (PEAK) — the International Program on Japan in East Asia and the International Program on Environmental Sciences.

(Holy Resurrection Cathedral)
Holy Resurrection Cathedral (復活大聖堂 fukkatsu daiseidō), also known as Nikorai-do (ニコライ堂 nikorai-dō), in Chiyoda, Tokyo, is the main cathedral of the Japanese Orthodox Church.
History
The founder of the Japanese Orthodox Church Ivan Dmitrievich Kasatkin (1836-1912), later St. Nicholas of Japan, was an archbishop who devoted himself to improving Japanese-Russian relations during the Meiji period. He selected the location on the hill at Kanda Surugadai. The site is on a height that overlooked the Imperial Palace. Today it is hidden among the many tall buildings erected since the 1960s.
St. Nicholas toured Russia raising funds for the Cathedral. The edifice was planned by Dr. Michael A. Shchurupov, designed by Josiah Conder, and constructed by Nagasato Taisuke. The Cathedral was completed on March 8, 1891, construction having begun seven years earlier. Depictions of its exotic Byzantine architecture and the unique sound of its bell often appeared in literature and illustrations of the day.
The original Cathedral was seriously damaged in the Great Kantō earthquake of September 1923. The main bell tower fell on the dome, collapsing it, thus causing major damage to the Cathedral. Rebuilding the cathedral became a major task for the then-ruling bishop, Archbishop Sergius (Tikhomirov), who succeeded St. Nicholas after he died in 1912. Since Russia was no longer a source of funding, Archbishop Sergius had to look for funding within Japan. A significant amount of funding was raised by numerous concerts by the Cathedral choir, led by Victor A. Pokrovsky. The re-built Cathedral was re-consecrated in 15 December 1929, with a shorter bell tower, a modified dome, and a less ornate interior, according to design by Okada Shinichiro.

in japan // tokyo · hydrangeas in akita · ano hana ????(pt. 1)
part 1 of my trip to japan!
I've been planning for this trip for nearly half a year and actually did it.
I decided to seize the chance now that I am graduating and yet to have a job.
being in eastern Japan has been an exciting period of our trip since we got to meet up with friends, witness weekend life among younger locals (especially in the city). I have been to Tokyo once many years ago, but do not seem to have much memory of it (except Disneyland lmao) so this trip has definitely been eye opening to me.
if I had the chance to visit Tokyo once more, I'd definitely do so! little did I know that there was actually way more to see and do besides what is commonly recommended online. due to time constraint and fatigue, there were some activities/locations that we missed out on.
as for the hydrangeas, we pretty much travelled 6 hours to Oga in Akita, stayed around for 3 hours and headed back to Tokyo with another 6 hours all in a day. this day trip was definitely extremely risky as trains and buses did not run as frequently as other cities. but I'd say the risk was well worth it! hydrangeas are pretty much my 2nd favourite type of flowers and this was definitely a sight to see. it looks way prettier in real life! ☀️
as for Chichibu, I'd recommend to rent a bike and explore the town! should be quicker and easier in comparison to walking to all locations under the hot sun, and waiting for buses. a total of 3 ano hana locations were visited, with many more to go. not sure if I'd visit again. maybe when I can actually ride a bike.
the vlogs will be split into 2 or 3 parts and hopefully I'll make a separate commentary one because tbh ain't nobody got time to film everything from their trip.
if you're interested in this whole trip's itinerary, click this link!
enjoy reading 28 pages AHHAHAHA.
(but no srsly i've poured my heart out making this along with tips and recommendations)

My husband and I decided to visit Kamakura when Hydrangea were in full bloom. Kamakura is located about 30 miles southwest of Tokyo and was the capital of Japan between 1185-1333.
Flower viewing in Japan is a national pastime and draws huge crowds. Please enjoy these beautiful Hydrangea without having to standing in line.

Thank you and see you soon.

St Mary's Cathedral,Tokyo
Site in the a little way Sekiguchidai city had the Holy Mother temple which was built formerly in 1899 to Tokyo Mejiro and it became the center of the church activity of the University of Tokyo eparchy but had burned down in the war damage in 1945.
As the revival plan, an invited design competition was done and by the design of elected Kenzou Tange, Tokyo cathedral Virgin Mary cathedral was reconstructed in December, 1964.
