Tunisia Chott el Djerid
The bottom of Chott el Djerid is located between 10 and 25 meters above sea level.Roughly in the shape of a tadpole, with a width of 20 km (12 mi) at its narrowest point, it reaches 250 km (160 mi) in overall length. At times, parts of it appear in various shades of white, green and purple. The narrow eastward inlet of the chott is also known as Chott el Fejej.
It is the largest salt pan of the Sahara Desert with a surface area of over 7,000 km2 (some sources state 5,000 km2). The site has a typical hot desert climate. Due to the harsh climate with mean annual rainfall of below 100 mm and daytime temperatures sometimes reaching 50 °C or more during summer with dense solar radiation, water evaporates from the lake. In summer Chott el Djerid is almost entirely dried up, and numerous fata morganas occur.
During winter, a small tributary of water can be seen discharging into the lake.

On the Chott El Djerid salt lake causeway in Tunisia.
Travelling across the Chott El Djerid salt flat Tunisia 2013. Heather and I were filming from the back seats on a louage, travelling from Tozeur to Douz in southern Tunisia.
According to Wikipedia; Chott El Djerid is the largest salt pan of the Sahara with a surface area of over 7,000 km2 (some sources state 5,000 km2). Due to the extreme climate with annual rainfall of only 100 mm and temperatures reaching 50 °C, water evaporates from the lake. In summer Chott el Djerid is almost entirely dried up, and numerous fata morganas occur.
During winter, a small tributary of water can be seen discharging into the lake.
South of Chott el Djerid, the Grand Erg Oriental desert begins. The towns of Kebili and Douz are also located south of the lake.
The lake can be crossed by foot and even by car, but this is very dangerous since the salt crust is not always firm.
During winter, when the lake is full, it can be crossed by boat. Piles of salt at its edges are collected for salt production processing.
Chott el Djerid was used as a filming location for the Star Wars series, among others. It was also described in Jules Verne's last novel, Invasion of the Sea.

Chott el Jerid Tunezja słone jezioro Chott el Djerid salt lake Tunisia
Bezodpływowe, słone jezioro w środkowo-zachodniej Tunezji. Położone w kotlinnym obniżeniu terenu.
Jezioro stanowi największy słony obszar na Saharze, liczący według różnych źródeł od 5000 km² do 7000 km² powierzchni. Ze względu na ekstremalne warunki klimatyczne, średnie roczne opady sięgające zaledwie ok. 100 mm i temperatury dochodzące do 50°C, woda wyparowuje z jeziora. W okresie letnim jezioro wysycha niemal zupełnie.

The majority of journalists around the world have chosen to develop their subject on controversial and sensational themes: violence, war, crime. But all these facts represent only 1% of our world and its inhabitants, forgetting the remaining 99% of which we never speak.
I chose to visit every country on the planet and film them to present them in High Definition format but in a raw way, without music, without comment. Simply, reality in all its truth. Thus, you will be able to make your own idea of the world in which you live.
Currently, I have already visited nearly 170 countries and my world tour continues thanks to you who follow me.
