Chowmahalla Palace or Chowmahallatuu (4 Palaces), is a palace of the Nizams of Hyderabad state. It was the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty and was the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad while they ruled their state. The palace remains the property of Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah, heir of the Nizams.

In Urdu, Hindi Char means four, and even in Persian, Chahar means four and in Urdu and Hindi Mahal means palaces, hence the name Chowmahalla/four palaces.

The palace is located in the old city in Hyderabad near the Charminar

All ceremonial functions including the accession of the Nizams and receptions for the Governor General were held at this palace.

Exploring the history and monuments of Hyderabad became a wonderful thought for me,so far I have learned and experienced a lot of unsaid,unaware & interesting things of this city.

So Here I ‘am with another interesting and beautiful historical Vlog based on the palaces of Hyderabad named by “CHOW MAHALLA” which means four palaces in Urdu where the royals and monarchs of Hyderabad State resided and governed it predominantly against all the odds until 17th Sep 1948, interestingly even after the independence of India and then became a part of Indian Union until 1956 later turned into the capital of Andhra Pradesh under State Reorganisation Act 1956 of our country.

Interestingly, things left behind by these rulers are now a part of museum for all of us and I guarantee you guys that each article in there will make you go rounds of awe from the chandeliers of the palaces to the Rolls Royce of Nizam everything is worth praising and appreciating.

Chowmahalla Palace or Chowmahallatuu (4 Palaces), is a palace of the Nizams of Hyderabad state. It was the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty and was the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad while they ruled their state. The palace was built by Nizam Salabat Jung. The palace remains the property of Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah, heir of the Nizams. Other members of the Hyderabadi Nizam family have also wed here.

The place is named chowmahalla, which means four palaces. The word char, and its variation chau, means four and the word mahal means palace in Urdu and Hindi. It is more likely derived from Farsi words, as it was the official language of the Hyderabad State at the time. All ceremonial functions including the accession of the Nizams and receptions for the Governor-General were held at this palace.

The palace is located in the old city in Hyderabad near the Charminar.

Chowmahalla Palace was the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty where the Nizams entertained their official guests and royal visitors. Built over 200 years ago, Chowmahalla is renowned for its unique style and elegance.

One monument that in its intrinsic grandeur still exudes the power of yore is the Chowmahalla Palace. (Chow means four. And Mahal means Palace. Chow-Mahalla therefore means four palaces).

While Nizam Salabhat Jung is credited with initiating the construction of the palace complex in 1750, it was Nizam Afzar-ud-Dawla Bahadur who ensured that it was completed between 1857 and 1869.

Chowmahalla Palace is a palace of the Nizams of Hyderabad State in Hyderabad,Telangana,India.It was the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty and was the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad while they ruled their state. The palace was built by Nizam Salabat Jung.The palace remains the property of Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah, heir of the Nizams. Other members of the Hyderabadi Nizam family have also wed here.The place is named chowmahalla, which means four palaces. It is consisted of two courtyards which are divided into the northern courtyard and the southern courtyard. The southern courtyard of the palace has four palaces which are namely Afzal Mahal, Tahniyat Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, and Aftab Mahal. The Aftab Mahal is a two storied building and is the biggest of all the four. The northern courtyard which has been open to public, houses Bara Imam, a long corridor with many rooms on the eastern side, which was once the administrative wing.The Chowmahalla Palace has Clock Tower, Council Hall and Roshan Bungalow inside it. The Roshan Bungalow has been named after Roshan Begum who was the mother of sixth Nizam. Khilwat Clock, which is famous for ticking since the construction of the palace, can be seen inside the Clock Tower. At the Council Hall, various manuscripts and rare books which were personal collections of the Nizam have been kept.

Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah Asaf Jah VIII, Beyefendi (born 6 October 1933), less formally known as Mukarram Jah, became the titular Nizam of Hyderabad on the death of his grandfather in 1967.

Background

Mukarram Jah was born to Azam Jah and Durru Shehvar and the grandson of Osman Ali Khan, the last reigning Nizam of Hyderabad state, and also the grandson of the last Ottoman Caliph, 'Abdu'l-Mijid II.[2] Jah was educated at The Doon School and then in England at Harrow School, Cambridge University (Peterhouse), the London School of Economics and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.[3][4]

Mukarram Jah had a close relationship with India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who reportedly wanted him to become his personal envoy or an ambassador to a Muslim country.[5] His two main palaces in Hyderabad—Chowmahalla and Falaknuma—were restored and opened to the public, the former as a museum highlighting the Nizam era and the latter as a luxury hotel opened in February 2010 after renovating and restoring for about ten years (under lease to the Taj Group).[6]

Like his father, Mukarram was the richest man in India till the 1980s. However in the 1990s most of his ancestral assets were lost to rival claimants in legal disputes. His net worth is estimated $1 billion.
