Mumbai (Bombay)
Mumbai; also known as Bombay, the official name until 1995) is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India and the ninth most populous agglomeration in the world, with an estimated city population of 18.4 million. Along with the neighbouring regions of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, it is one of the most populous urban regions in the world and the seсond most populous metropolitan area in India, with a population of 20.7 million as of 2011. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India and has a deep natural harbour. In 2009, Mumbai was named an alpha world city. It is also the wealthiest city in India, and has the highest GDP of any city in South, West, or Central Asia. Mumbai has the highest number of billionaires and millionaires among all cities in India.
The seven islands that came to constitute Mumbai were home to communities of fishing colonies. For centuries, the islands were under the control of successive indigenous empires before being ceded to the Portuguese and subsequently to the British East India Company when in 1661 King Charles II married the Portuguese Catherine of Braganza, and as part of her dowry Charles received the ports of Tangier and seven islands of Bombay. During the mid-18th century, Bombay was reshaped by the Hornby Vellard project, which undertook reclamation of the area between the seven islands from the sea. Along with construction of major roads and railways, the reclamation project, completed in 1845, transformed Bombay into a major seaport on the Arabian Sea. Bombay in the 19th century was characterized by economic and educational development. During the early 20th century it became a strong base for the Indian independence movement. Upon India's independence in 1947 the city was incorporated into Bombay State. In 1960, following the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, a new state of Maharashtra was created with Bombay as the capital.
Mumbai is the financial, commercial and entertainment capital of India. It is also one of the world's top ten centres of commerce in terms of global financial flow, generating 6.16% of India's GDP and accounting for 25% of industrial output, 70% of maritime trade in India (Mumbai Port Trust and JNPT), and 70% of capital transactions to India's economy.The city houses important financial institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange, the National Stock Exchange of India, the SEBI and the corporate headquarters of numerous Indian companies and multinational corporations. It is also home to some of India's premier scientific and nuclear institutes like BARC, NPCL, IREL, TIFR, AERB, AECI, and the Department of Atomic Energy. The city also houses India's Hindi (Bollywood) and Marathi film and television industry. Mumbai's business opportunities, as well as its potential to offer a higher standard of living, attract migrants from all over India, making the city a melting pot of many communities and cultures.

Watch: Mumbai's famous Juhu beach covered in filth
Mumbai's famous Juhu beach, a popular tourist destination, is covered with garbage. And despite BMC having served warning notices to two of its staffers last week, the situation hasn't yet improved.

An evening stroll through Chowpatty Beach in Mumbai, India
Juhu Beach Mumbai | Juhu Chaupati Mumbai | Mumbai Juhu Beach | Juhu Beach | Mumbai
#juhubeachmumbai #mumbai #mumbaibeach
Juhu is a suburb of Mumbai. It is most famous for the sprawling Juhu beach. It surrounded by the Arabian Sea to the west, Versova to the north, Santacruz and Vile Parle to the east, and Khar to the south. Juhu is among the most affluent areas of the city and home to many Bollywood celebrities. The nearest railway stations are Santacruz, Andheri and Vile Parle on the Western Line and Harbour Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway.
J. R. D. Tata, the father of civil aviation in India, made his maiden voyage to Juhu Airport from Drigh Road airstrip, Karachi, via Ahmedabad, on 15 October 1932 carrying mail in a Puss Moth aircraft.
In the nineteenth century, Juhu was an island: a long, narrow sand bar rising above sea level by a metre or two, just off the west coast of Salsette. It could be reached during low tides by walking across the tidal inlet.
Juhu was called Juvem by the Portuguese. At its north point, nestled the village of Juhu, inhabited by Bhandaris (toddy tappers), Agris (salt traders) and Kulbis (cultivators) and at its south point, opposite Bandra island, lived a small colony of fisher folk and cultivators (Koliwada). The inhabitants of Juhu were mainly East Indians and there was a small section of Goans. The Church of St. Joseph was built by the Portuguese in 1853.
The open beaches of Juhu have attracted the well-heeled and the most affluent among Mumbai's population for almost a century. In the 1890s, Jamsetji Tata purchased land on Juhu and built a bungalow there. He planned to develop 1200 acres (5 km²) in Juhu Tara. This was to yield 500 plots of one acre (4,000 m²) each and a seaside resort. Simultaneously he wanted to extend the Mahim Causeway to Santacruz, to access to this area. After his death in 1904, the scheme was abandoned. With the dawn of aviation in the 20th century, the Bombay Flying Club commenced operations in 1929 at what eventually became the present Juhu Aerodrome.
Juhu Beach is located 18 kilometres north of the city centre, on the shores of the Arabian Sea. It stretches for six kilometres up to Versova. It is a popular tourist attraction throughout the year and is also a sought after destination for shooting films. The beach generally gets more crowded on weekends with families and courting couples. The food court at its main entrance is famous for its 'Mumbai style' street food, notably Bhelpuri, pani puri and Sevpuri. Horse pulled carriages offer joyrides to tourists for a small fee while acrobats, dancing monkeys, cricket matches, toy sellers vie for tourist's attention. The beach is among the most popular sites in the city for the annual Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations where thousands of devotees arrive in grand processions, carrying idols of the Lord Ganesh of various sizes, to be immersed in the water at the beach; unfortunately, the beach often becomes very dirty. Juhu Beach is also a popular spot for planespotting as a portion of it lies underneath the departure path from Runway 09 and occasionally, the arrival path from Runway 27 of Mumbai Airport.
The busy-yet-peaceful surroundings of Juhu is home to many Bollywood celebrities like Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Ameesha Patel, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Bobby Deol, Dharmendra, Dimple Kapadia, Fardeen Khan, Govinda, Hema Malini, Hritik Roshan, Mahesh Bhatt, Mithun Chakraborty, Paresh Rawal, Rakesh Roshan, Rani Mukherjee, Raveena Tandon, Shakti Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Vidya Balan, Vivek Oberoi, Yash Chopra and Zayed Khan. Apart from celebrities, it is also home to a significant number of Mumbai's business elite. Hence, Juhu has come to be referred to as the Beverly Hills of Bollywood juhu beach dance shark

The Pav Bhaji Making Master of Juhu Chowpatty Beach - Delicious Indian Street Food in Mumbai, India.
Follow us on Instagram:
✓ This is a real treat because in this video we visit Shree Siddhivinayak Fast Food Centre where we watch some Paav Bhaji making action by Pav Bhaji Master Chef Shambhu.
Whilst there are numerous stalls at Juhu beach, this particular one totally stands out because it is so incredibly busy especially in the evening time. So if you are at the beach, you simply gotta eat here. They are also known for their Tawa Pilau.
Here there's no secret to the recipe and preparation because they make everything in full view of you; while you wait; just the same as you would expect at an Indian Street food vendor at his cart (or Lari) somewhere such as Lunsiqui in Navsari.
This is a pure vegetarian restaurant serving up what we feel is delicious restaurant quality fast food; but at affordable street food prices!!!
The Shree Siddhi Vinayak Fast Foodshop is located directly on world famous Juhu beach in Bombay, Maharastra, India.
A very special thank you to Chef Shambhu and all the colleagues who warmly welcomed us and were very hospitable and graciously allowed us a privileged glimpse into their street kitchen to do the videoing.
I tried the Mumbai Pao Bhaji and can happily confirm that it was Absolutely Delicious!!!
If you like Pau Bhaji, then you may just enjoy our Pau Bhaji playlist which also has some delicious recipe videos:
Chowpatty, Chaupati, Chau-pati or Chopatti can be spelt in different ways but it's always prounced Chow Patty.
Note: there are 2 Chowpattys' in Mumbai one of which is called Girgaon Chowpatty and the other one is known as Juhu Chowpatty Beach.
(Video recorded on Christmas Eve: Sunday 24th December 2017).
Girgaum Chowpatty Beach - Mumbai
Girgaum Chowpatty (Marathi: गिरगाव चौपाटी, Giragāva Chaupāṭī), is a public beach along the Queen’s Necklace adjoining Marine Drive in the Girgaon area of Mumbai, India. It is served by the Charni Road railway station. The beach is noted for its Ganesh Visarjan celebrations when thousands of people from all over Mumbai and Pune come to immerse the idols of Lord Ganesh in the Arabian Sea. It is also one of the many places in the city where the 'Ram Leela' play is performed onstage every year. An effigy of Ravan erected on the sand is burnt at the end of the 10-day performance.
Indian Street Food Bhel Puri Vendor runs away from Beach Police, Juhu Beach Chowpatty, Mumbai, India
✓ Whilst we were on Juhu Beach in Mumbai buying Bhel Puri from one of the mobile beach hawkers......suddenly and without warning the seller gasped and ran away, it was because he had seen the approaching beach police....
After looking again at the video footage that we had recorded we realised that throughout him serving us; he was continually looking over his shoulder; on the look out for the dreaded beach police patrol.
Why beach a police patrol? simply because the mobile beach sellers are unauthorized and don't pay any form of rent, whereas further along the beach there are stalls which pay very high rents.
Personally we say live and let live, it cannot be easy to work in the scorching Mumbai sun; day in and day out, carrying their heavy loads and using their mind power to create a micro business literally out of nothing to earn a living, we say more power to the beach vendors, they are not illegal (war is illegal), they are breaking so called man made laws and rules (they are not breaking God's Law).
Whilst there are numerous stalls and seaside vendors at Juhu beach, this particular fellow totally stands for the theatrical manner in which he serves up his snacks.
The beautiful smile on his face at the end just made our day
Here there's no secret to the recipe and preparation because he makes everything in full view of you; while you wait.
BHEL PURI RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
* Puri (Fried Wheat Flour Biscuits)
* Sev (Crunchy Gramflour Noodles)
* Mumra (Puffed Rice)
* Chana Ki Dal
* Spicy Masala Chaat (Spice Mix)
* Lemon (Limbu)
* Tomato (Tamata)
* Red Onion (Lal Dungri)
* Fresh Green Coriander (Lila Dhana)
These beach vendors serve up pure vegetarian Indian Street Food, we personally think that they serve up what we feel is delicious restaurant quality fast food; but at affordable street food prices!!!
We didn't catch the vendors name but he can be located walking around somewhere on the world famous Juhu beach (in Bombay, Maharashtra, India).
A very special thank you to the vendor who warmly welcomed us and was very hospitable and graciously allowed us a privileged glimpse into his mobile street kitchen to do the videoing.
Just in case you're wondering, we did finally catch up with the vendor and paid him what was due.
When we finally did try out the Bhel we can happily confirm that it was Absolutely Delicious!!!
Chowpatty, Chaupati, Chau-pati or Chopatti can be spelt in different ways but it's always pronounced Chow Patty.
Note: there are 2 Chowpattys' in Mumbai one of which is called Girgaon Chowpatty and the other one is known as Juhu Chowpatty Beach.
