India: Kolkata/Calcutta New Market & Chowringhee Road
The New Market is a vast, indoor market selling everything. Actually, Kolkata/Calcutta is just one big market selling everything...rather indoors or along the streets of which Chowringhee Road is a main one.
It sounds rude but do not acknowledge any touts, beggers or anyone asking where are you from... forget about no thank you...being polite...any response just encourages them. Ignore, don't make eye contact and walk on. Despite all that, we enjoyed Kolkata/Calcutta for a few days only with its British Raj history. After that, the chaos becomes fatiguing but don't pass it by. Visit...

India: The Ancient Synagogues of Kolkata/Calcutta
If someone doesn't take you or show you where they are, you'll never find the two remaining Synagogues of Kolkata/Calcutta, both protected monuments. Buried in an extremely busy area, you need permission to visit.
We visited Magen David (1883-84) first with permission from David Nahoum (a famous confectionary shop in the New Market). Magen David is larger and more ornate of the two synagogues before taking a 10-minute walk to Beth El (1856) with a matzo oven and mikvah (ceremonial bath). The majority of Kolkata/Calcutta Sephardic Jews immigrated from Iraq and there may only be 15 remaining Jews in this city (per Mr. Nahoum).

A little dirt here and there,
A little anguish evrywhere.
If we keep one another in the dark,
truths only become more stark.
We know not who is to say,
some abstinence could go a long way.
Pleasant glimpses of a world turning bright,
allow us to keep you in light.

Kolkata....See Through My Eye..............................
Esplanade is a neighbourhood of central Kolkata, earlier known as Calcutta, in Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal. This is not a conventional esplanade in the sense that the place is not exactly situated alongside a waterbody. However, the river Ganga, also known as the Ganges or the Hooghly, flows nearby.
1. The Shaheed Minar, formerly known as the Ochterlony Monument, is a monument in Kolkata that was erected in 1828 in memory of Major-general Sir David Ochterlony, commander of the British East India Company, to commemorate both his successful defense of Delhi against the Marathas in 1804 and the victory of the East India Company’s armed forces over the Gurkhas in the Anglo-Nepalese War. The monument was constructed in his memory. It was designed by J. P. Parker and paid for from public funds.
2. Metropolitan Building is the number 46.26 building on Chowringhee Road in Kolkata near Esplanade. Formerly known as the Whiteway Laidlaw department store, it was a famous department store in Calcutta during the British Rule in India. This neo-baroque emporium—with domes, a clock tower, and arched recessed windows—exemplifies fashionable shopping during the British Raj in British India. The building was built in 1905. Post Independence Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. assumed ownership, so people know it more commonly as Metropolitan Building.
3. The 42 is a residential skyscraper in Kolkata in the state of West Bengal, India.[1] It is currently the tallest building in India. It is located in Chowringhee, the central business district of the city. It stands between Tata Centre and Jeevan Sudha. It was first proposed in 2008 but construction was delayed for nearly two years. It was topped off in 2019.
