Christ statue in peru damaged by fire days before pope visit
LIMA, Peru – A giant Christ statue in Perus capital that was donated by a construction company at the center of Latin Americas largest corruption scandal was damaged Saturday in a fire, days before Pope Francis is set to arrive in the South American nation. Peruvians awoke to find nearly the entire back of the statue, perched on a barren desert bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, charred black. A spokesperson with Perus firefighting corps told RPP Noticias that two dozen firefighters responded to the blaze and that while the cause remains under investigation, one working theory is that the Christ of the Pacific was purposed set aflame. The 69foot 21meter statue was donated by Brazilian company Odebrecht in 2011, and for many Peruvians it has become a sour reminder of the companys illegal maneuverings to court and bribe highranking officials in exchange for lucrative public works contracts. In January 2017, vandals covered the statue in messages like Out of the country Odebrecht. Two ...

STORYLINE:
A controversial statue of Jesus similar to Brazil's iconic Christ the Redeemer was unveiled on Friday in the Peruvian capital Lima, on a hill overlooking the Pacific coastline.
Peruvian authorities, including outgoing President Alan Garcia, attended the blessing of the huge statue by Lima Archbishop Juan Luis Cipriani.
Plans to erect the statue had sparked controversy for its resemblance to the famed Rio de Janeiro work.
Lima Mayor Susana Villaran had criticised its suitability and lack of originality, and said Garcia had not asked her before announcing on June 10 his intention to have Christ of the Pacific put up.
The statue, set in the historical site of Morro Solar, in Lima's Chorrillos neighbourhood, is 22 metres (72 feet) high and stands atop a 15-metre (49-foot) base.
It was a present by Brazilian company Odebrechet operating in Peru and Garcia told the media he had also put money of his own.
The statue cost 850,000 US dollars, according to Peruvian media.
Lima's and Chorrillos' authorities, who were never consulted by the president about erecting the statue, will have to pay for the maintenance of the statue.
The Christ of the Pacific has also been severely criticised by historians, urban experts and local artists.
Morro Solar was declared patrimony of the city of Lima in 1986.
It was one of the last reduct held by Peruvian soldier fighting the Chilean invasion in the 19th century.
Experts in urbanism have told local media that the statue - which will have a set of 26 colour lights at night - has a negative impact in the capital's coastline.
Peruvian artists have also expressed their disapproval saying the statue lacks originality and it is just a gross copy of Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer.
A group on Facebook against the statue has already 7-thousand members.
Pope Benedict XVI has sent his blessings for the statue.

Egypt & Peru - Amazing Connections Linking Egypt and Peru, The Egyptians and Incas / Pre-Incas
The ancient Egyptians (in Africa) and the ancient pre-Incas/Incas (in South America) evolved on opposite sides of the globe and were never in contact; yet both cultures mysteriously possessed the same strikingly identical body of ancient art, architecture, symbolism, mythology and religion.
The Victorian-era scholars, faced with this enigma, concluded that both cultures must have been children of the same Golden Age parent civilization, “Atlantis.”
Today, Egyptian/Inca parallels are not only being ignored by American and Western scholars, they’re being suppressed.

God Give Us An Eternal Perspective
There are times in life when we get so caught up in the shallowness of the temporal that we miss out on the profoundity of eternity.
We are so focused on the small coin which is the here and now that we miss out on the bigger picture- the ocean which is eternity.
Lord give us an eternal perspective and help us to view this life in the light of eternity.
Help us God to live each moment, spend each dollar, do each deed in the light of your righteous judgment and in the mindset that anything sacrificed today is nothing compared to the glory that awaits in eternity!

Los Libertadores Bridge - Lima, Peru
Los Libertadores is a modern cable-stayed bridge located in Lima, Peru. The bridge was recently declared an icon by the mayor of Peru as a gift to Lima citizens in celebration of the bicentenario of independence. Cycling Lima: Miraflores to Chorrillos return
A quick couple of hours in the saddle departing Kennedy Park (Parque Kennedy) after renting a bicycle from the Specialized tent (S/.15 per hour). The goal was to cycle to the big statue of Christ (Christ of the Pacific) and then to the big metal cross. The cross is clearly visible at night when the lights are on but during the day it's almost impossible to make out with the perpetual fog and mist obscuring its view. The road to the statue and cross took us along the coastline and we stopped briefly at the wharf in Chorrillos to see what the catch of the day was. Coming home we took the freeway (technically not legal by bicycle but it was almost impossible to cross back over to the coast).

How to get saved
Man is a sinner in the eyes of a Holy God.
Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
There is a price for our sin, the wage (what we earn) is death when we sin.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Jesus Christ paid for all our sins, by dying on the cross, shedding His blood; Christ was buried and bodily rose again 3 days later.
Romans 5:8 – But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
By faith in Jesus Christ alone are we saved forever.
Ephesians 2:8 – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Faith alone in Christ alone. That is the gospel, it is simple, pure and it saves you eternally. You cannot lose salvation.
Do you trust that Jesus Christ is God come in the flesh? That He died for all your sins on the cross? That He was buried and 3 days later rose from the dead? If you do, you are now saved.
