Portage Pass Trail Chugach National Forest Alaska 4K UHD
We hiked up to the top of the Portage Pass Trail just after the tunnel to Whittier Alaska. It takes about 50 minutes to climb to the top. Most of the trail is straight up to the top where you have some awesome views of Portage Lake and Glacier. You can also hike to Portage lake with this trail. You can also see the Whittier Passage Canal from the top. This is an intermediate level hike to the top only because of the climb. Otherwise the trail is pretty easy. The toll charge was $13 for the tunnel. There is no charge on the way back.

Alaska Vacation: Snowboarding & Skiing at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood Alaska
This video is our journey skiing & snowboarding on Mt. Alyeska, in Girdwood, Alaska. Avery took a lesson from the Ski School there and I went up and did some skiing myself. After, we took a stroll around the block from our Air BNB and played in the snow.

I took a ride on the Alaska Railroad through the Chugach National Forest from Portage Valley to Grandview. The scenery was fantastic and I can enthusiastically recommend the trip to anyone looking to see a little bit of wild Alaska.

Chugach State Park Alaska Department of Natural Resources Photos Parks
Chugach State Park is located in Southcentral Alaska mostly within the Municipality of Anchorage. The park contains approximately 495,000 acres of land and is one of the four largest state parks in the United States. Southcentral Alaska is an area of diverse land forms and rugged topography, bounded on the north and west by the Alaska Range, and on the east by the Chugach and Wrangell Mountains and Prince William Sound. The region contains extensive ocean shoreline, abundant lakes, massive glaciers and ice fields. The park’s westernmost boundary lies in the western foothills of the Chugach Mountain Range and is a mere seven miles to the east of downtown Anchorage. The park is further defined by the Knik Arm on the north, Turnagain Arm on the south, and Upper and Lower Lake George and Chugach National Forest on the east. Within minutes of the park are the communities of Palmer, Eagle River, Chugiak, Indian, Bird, Girdwood, the village of Eklutna, and Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson.

Visiting Chugach National Forest, National Forest in Moose Pass, Alaska, United States
The Chugach National Forest is a 6,908,540-acre (27,958 km2)[2] United States National Forest in south central Alaska. Covering portions of Prince William Sound, the Kenai Peninsula and the Copper River Delta, it was formed in 1907 from part of a larger forest reserve. The Chugach includes extensive shorelines, glaciers, forests and rivers, much of which is untouched by roads or trails. It hosts numerous bird, mammal and marine species, including extensive shorebird habitat and a bald eagle population larger than the continental 48 states combined. Human industry in the forest includes extensive tourism and some mining and oil and gas operations. For more info, visit this link:

Girdwood, AK: September hike on the Winner Creek Trail
From the Alyeska Resort at Girdwood, AK, a perfectly-maintained 2.5 mile (4 km) hiking trail leads to the Winner Creek gorge in the Chugach National Forest. This trail has a groomed crushed stone surface, complemented by sturdy boardwalks when the trail crosses damp areas. Free trailhead parking is available in the hotel’s overflow parking areas, and the trail itself starts close to the bottom terminus of the Alyeska Aerial Tram.
The Winner Creek Trail passes through a temperate rain forest, lush with a deep green undergrowth of mosses and ferns. In the Fall, massed colonies of Devil’s Club give a splash of bright red berry clusters held above yellowing autumnal leaves. In September, scattered on the forest floor, clumps of fungi also add ivory-white, orange, and tan color accents to the overall green shades of the rain forest.
At the Winner Creek gorge, large riverside boulders provide a moist home for mosses and ferns, and form a plant grotto for the steely-blue pure waters of the creek as it cascades over riffles and plunges through narrow waterfall passages.
Girdwood Mount Alyeska Hike - ALASKA
A bunch of short videos put together showing a family hike up and back down Mount Alyeska in Girdwood Alaska. We even saw a black bear, not too uncommon as I saw 4 of them yesterday, on the hike. Unfortunately this one appeared to have an injured front paw. Hopefully nothing serious or permanent.
