Atherstone is a town and civil parish in the English county of Warwickshire. Located in the far north of the county, Atherstone forms part of the border with Leicestershire along the A5 national route, and is only 4 miles from Staffordshire. It lies midway between the larger towns of Tamworth and Nuneaton and contains the administrative offices of North Warwickshire Borough Council.
Atherstone has a long history dating back to Roman times. An important defended Roman settlement named Manduessedum existed at Mancetter near the site of modern-day Atherstone, and the Roman road, the Watling Street (most of which later became part of the A5) ran through the town. It is believed by some historians that the rebel Queen of the Britons, Boudica was defeated at the Battle of Watling Street by the Romans in her final battle near Manduessedum.
In Tudor times, Atherstone was a thriving commercial centre for weaving and clothmaking. The town's favourable location laid out as a long ‘ribbon development’ along Watling Street, ensured its growth as a market town. While it remained an agricultural settlement in medieval times, attempts were made to encourage merchants and traders through the creation of burgage plots, a type of land tenure that provided them with special privileges. A manuscript discovered by Marjorie Morgan among the muniments of Cambridge’s King's College (Ms. C9), refers to the creation of nine new burgage strips from land belonging to seven of the tenants in Atherstone vill.
By the late Tudor period Atherstone had become a centre for leatherworking, clothmaking, metalworking and brewing. Local sheep farmers and cattle graziers supplied wool and leather to local tanners and shoemakers (an industry that continued until the 1970s), while metalworkers, locksmiths and nailers fired their furnaces with local coal and the alemakers supplied thirsty palates on market days.
The surviving inventories from 16th century Mancetter provide a fascinating glimpse into Atherstone’s Elizabethan merchants and traders, before the town was economically overshadowed by the bustling cities of Coventry and Birmingham. They show Atherstone at this time as a typical Midlands market town, taking full advantage of its location and agricultural setting.
The town is situated 5.6 mi (9.0 km) northwest of Nuneaton, 5.6 mi (9.0 km) southeast of Tamworth and 14 mi (23 km) north of the nearest major city, Coventry. Atherstone is close to the River Anker which forms the boundary between Warwickshire and Leicestershire. Witherley village is on the opposite bank of the river in Leicestershire, whilst the village of Mancetter is contiguous with Atherstone to the southeast.
Atherstone is on the main A5 national route and close to the M42 motorway. The Coventry Canal and a series of eleven locks runs through the town, as does the West Coast Main Line railway. Atherstone has its railway station on this line, with an hourly service 7 days a week to both London and Crewe via Stafford and Stoke. The historic railway station building, built in 1847, was under threat of demolition in the early 1980s. Thanks to a local group, the Railway and Steam Traction Society, listed status was obtained, with the building celebrating its 150th anniversary in 1997.

ACID REIGN - The Final Show - Chaos (Lambs to the Slaughter) 9/15
Acid Reign's farewell show recorded at The Marquee Club, London, October 28th, 1991.
Acid Reign were a British thrash metal band formed in 1985. The group was active until 1991, when they disbanded.
Acid Reign's line-up for the most of the time was Mark Ramsey (drums and keyboards), Adam Lehan (guitars), Mac (bass), Kev (guitars), and Howard H Smith (vocals). At one point, future Cathedral member Gary Gaz Jennings also played guitar with the band. After they disbanded, Kev moved on to join Lawnmower Deth, under the moniker Baron Kev Von Thresh Meister Silo Stench Chisel Marbels.
The band started the ball rolling with the Moshkinstein demo in 1987 and were picked up by British thrash specialists under one flag in 1988 for their first E.P. Moshkinstein (EP) gaining some good support slots such as Flotsam and Jetsam and Death Angel. Acid Reign struck up a friendship with label mates Nuclear Assault and Exodus, toured the UK and Europe as support to the Survive Tour and Fabulous Disaster Tour. Acid Reign toured with Nuclear Assault again in 1989 across Europe with Dark Angel and Candlemass after the release of their first full album The Fear. Their second album Obnoxious arrived in 1990 to mixed reviews and the band broke up after parting ways with long time record label Music For Nations. They finally signed off with a legendary show at the London Marquee club which saw fans stage diving from the T-Shirt stand in the foyer prior to the gig, Les from the Vic Reeves Big Night Out show providing the strangest support set of the century and a fan diving off the balcony towards the end of the bands final set.
Lyrically, the group tackled a multitude of issues, ranging from the criticism of censorship Creative Restraint and the anti-nuclear testing message of Joke Chain to the b-movie science fiction of Phantasm and to downright silliness, as on the CD bonus track for their album Obnoxious, This Is Serious.
An official Acid Reign Myspace page was launched in April 2007.
Acid Reign members Kev, H, Ian, Mac and Ramsey met up for a re-union beer back in their hometown Harrogate in September 2007. These 5 guys hadn't all been together in over 15 years prior to this get together. Unfortunatley a re-union gig did not come from this despite a lot of fans wanting a re-union gig to happen.
On June 5th H and Kev appeared on stage together for the first time in 17 years in Milton Keynes at a Lawnmower Deth show. They played one song ZZUR and that would seem to be as close to a reunion as this band are going to get.
H can be seen on the comedy circuit as Keith Platt - Professional Yorkshireman

Outlaws leader tells his side of the story
Mark Lester, regional president of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, relates what happened at the group's clubhouse on New Year's Eve 2009. The Knox County Sheriff's Office raided the clubhouse on the evening of Dec. 31, 2009 and arrested Lester and a fellow Outlaw member.
Although the operation took place within the city limits, the Sheriff's Office executed the raid while Knoxville Police Department officers played a supporting role.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Birmingham ( (listen), locally also: ) is the second-most populous city in the United Kingdom, after London, and the most populous city in the English Midlands. It is also the most populous metropolitan district in the United Kingdom, with an estimated 1,137,123 inhabitants, and is considered the social, cultural, financial, and commercial centre of the Midlands. It is the main local government of the West Midlands conurbation, which is the third most populated urban area in the United Kingdom, with a population of 2,897,303 in 2017. The wider Birmingham metropolitan area is the second largest in the United Kingdom with a population of over 4.3 million. It is frequently referred to as the United Kingdom's second city.A market town in the medieval period, Birmingham grew in the 18th-century Midlands Enlightenment and subsequent Industrial Revolution, which saw advances in science, technology, and economic development, producing a series of innovations that laid many of the foundations of modern industrial society. By 1791 it was being hailed as the first manufacturing town in the world. Birmingham's distinctive economic profile, with thousands of small workshops practising a wide variety of specialised and highly skilled trades, encouraged exceptional levels of creativity and innovation and provided an economic base for prosperity that was to last into the final quarter of the 20th century. The Watt steam engine was invented in Birmingham. The resulting high level of social mobility also fostered a culture of political radicalism which, under leaders from Thomas Attwood to Joseph Chamberlain, was to give it a political influence unparalleled in Britain outside London, and a pivotal role in the development of British democracy. From the summer of 1940 to the spring of 1943, Birmingham was bombed heavily by the German Luftwaffe in what is known as the Birmingham Blitz. The damage done to the city's infrastructure, in addition to a deliberate policy of demolition and new building by planners, led to extensive urban regeneration in subsequent decades.
Birmingham's economy is now dominated by the service sector. The city is a major international commercial centre, ranked as a beta- world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network the joint highest ranking with Edinburgh and Manchester of all British cities outside of London; and an important transport, retail, events and conference hub. Its metropolitan economy is the second largest in the United Kingdom with a GDP of $121.1bn (2014), and its six universities make it the largest centre of higher educat ...
