Our family enjoyed a fun day at Church Farm with our sweet friends! It was a cute farm in Norfolk. They had a petting area, an indoor and outdoor playground, a restaurant, a cafe, and much more. I highly recommend it if you are in the area!

Ghost of ~Irby Dales Wood.
Irby upon Humber or Irby-on-Humber is a small village and civil parish in North East Lincolnshire, England.
The village shares part of its name with other places in England such as Irby in the Marsh and Irby, Merseyside.(this is why I got confused in my last post ????) David Mills in A Dictionary of British Place-Names gives the meaning of Irby as 'settlement or village of the Irish'.
In the 11th century Domesday Book Irby's population of 11 villagers, 7 smallholders, 52 freemen, in over 70 households, was considered 'very large'. St Andrew's Church, with 12th century nave features and a 13-14th century tower, was built on the site of an earlier church mentioned in the Domesday record.
In November 1455, a betrothed couple took a stroll through the local woods on the eve of their wedding. Villagers reported hearing screams and the pair did not return.
When they failed to return a search was made but neither of them was ever seen again. Just what happened that evening is not known to this day, but it was widely suspected that after a terrible quarrel, the man murdered his fiancée and then fled the village never to be seen again. The girl`s father swore that unless he was brought to justice her ghost would haunt the Irby Dale Wood for five hundred years. It was once strongly believed that the apparition dressed in her white wedding dress walks the dale woods at night and it is said that many years after the couple vanished, workmen widening a gateway to the woods uncovered a woman`s skeleton beneath the shade of an ancient beach still baring Rosamund and Neville`s initials. Local people once shunned the area especially at night and it was said that whenever farm horses past the spot they would rear up in fear.
The name Irby is believed to be of Viking origin, meaning; the farmstead of the Irishmen

Irby - my fiends and I regularly walk the 5-6 mile walk round and through the woods, a super place and a hidden gem as many locals do not know it is there. You can extend the walk and carry on through Swallow and up through the chalk pit though another wood and drop back into Irby top. However not for the faint hearted!. We have had several experiences of supernatural happenings- each time ‘jumping out of our skins’ and turning to find nothing there. Last nights experience was a loud ’swushing’ sound, we both turned and felt somthing pass between us. Other times I have felt something/someone tap my shoulder, but again there is no one there. Spooky! A bit of internet research and I found the following:
The Irby Boggle*
At Irby it is said that each year, on the spot where a young girl was murdered in 1455, her ghost appears.
It seems that in November of that year, on the evening before their wedding, she and her future husband disappeared whilst on a walk. The intended husband returned two years later, saying the couple had quarrelled whilst on the walk and he had assumed the girl had returned home.
Although the villagers heard screams from the surrounding woods on the night the couple disappeared nothing was ever proved against the young man. However, some years later bones were discovered by workmen which were confirmed as those of a young woman.

I also went up to Welbeck as a schoolboy in the mid 60’s…only a Saturday as I remember….with my mate Andrew Farrow. We helped in a fashion….amazing site…and also remember seeing a black dog on top of the hill looking down at us. Someone mentioned an old legend about a black dog being an unlucky anglo saxon type of curse if you saw it….probably one of the older fellas trying to put the wind up us ….Often go up there and look, take my grandkids and tell them about skeletons and black dogs…..magical!!

Kissing Gate
This video shows my SketchUp rendition of a Kissing Gate as applied at Hadrian's Wall in England. They are sturdy gates and extremely functional in allowing passage of hikers, yet restricting cows and sheep.
