Church of All Saints, Yekaterinburg
In January I visited Yekaterinburg. I got a special look at the inside of the church built on the site where Russia's last tsar was murdered in cold blood along with his family and servants.

I didn't go inside and it doesn't really matter. The only thing that matter this time is the site where it was built.

Church on Blood (Church of All Saints). Ekaterinburg, Russia
Across the street from the Rastorguyev-Kharitonov mansion is the Church on Blood, one of Russia's largest churches. It stands on the spot where the members of the Russian Imperial family and several of their attendants were shot by the Bolsheviks in July 1918. The building where the execution took place, Ipatyev House, was demolished in 1977. During the Perestroika years, pilgrims started to arrive here. A wooden cross was installed in 1990, and later a wooden chapel appeared.
The church itself was opened at the beginning of the 2000s. The design made use of the floor plan of the demolished Ipatyev House. The raised level of the building resembles a church oil lamp. Today, the Church on Blood houses an exhibit dedicated to the events of 1918 and organises art exhibitions.

Overnight procession marks 100th anniversary of last Russian tsar's death
(17 Jul 2018) Thousands of pilgrims began a procession on Tuesday to mark the 100th anniversary of the execution of Czar Nicholas II and his family.
The procession started out from the Church on the Blood, which was built on the site of the execution and was set to end at the site where the bodies were dumped some 21 kilometres (13 miles) away.
The procession was led by Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, which canonised the czar and his family as martyrs.
Russia's last czar, his wife and five children were executed by Bolshevik soldiers in Yekaterinburg 18 months after Nicholas abdicated in the February 1917 revolution.
They had been moved from detention in St. Petersburg to Siberia as the Russian Civil War raged.

Travel Russia - Visiting the Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg
Take a tour of Cathedral on Blood Yekaterinburg in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg is not a typical Russian Orthodox church.
This was the site of Tsar Nicholas the II's last moments before being killed during the Bolshevik Revolution.
The church was built over what was formerly the Ipatiev house, where the Tsar and his family were kept before the assassinations.
Therefore, the Cathedral is an imperative part of Russia's gruesome political history.
The golden domes of the Cathedral are standard for this architectural style.
The natural allure of the surrounding Ural mountains provide visitors another motive to visit this crucial monument.

Russia: Protests continue over planned church in Yekaterinburg
Hundreds of protesters met again on Wednesday night to demonstrate against the construction of an Orthodox Church in a park in central Yekaterinburg.
Police could be seen standing hand in hand to protect a newly erected wall around the construction site after activists destroyed a metallic fence the night before.
Seven people where reportedly detained during Wednesday's protest in connection with the removal of the fence.
Wednesday was the third night of protests in a long-running dispute over the planned church. Demonstrators are demanding the preservation of the park and green spaces in the central Russian city.
St Catherine's Cathedral is supposed to be built by 2023 to mark the city's 300th anniversary.
Yevgeny Kuivashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Oblast, responded to the recent protests on his Instagram account.
In this situation, one can understand believers, for whom the restoration of St. Catherine's Cathedral in the city is a question that rises from year to year and that still needs to be resolved. One can also understand protesters, for whom it is important to preserve every green tree in the centre of Yekaterinburg.
He called for dialogue between the church and protesters and invited them for talks. Despite negotiations, the authorities ruled that construction should go ahead. The mayor of the city has since promised to create another park at a place chosen together with activists.

STORYLINE
At least 60-thousand people took part in a procession in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg on Sunday to mark the anniversary of the death of the last Russian Czar.
Ninety-eight years ago, in the early morning of 17 July, the Russian Czar Nicholas II, his wife Tsarina Alexandra, their five children and four of their servants were executed by Bolshevik troops in Ipatiev House.
The house was later demolished and at the site now stands the Church of the Blood.
On Sunday, a religious procession was held for the 14th time to mark the occasion.
The procession followed the route that the bodies of the Imperial family were taken after they were executed.
A descendant of the Imperial family, Princess Olga Kulikovskaya-Romanova, was the special guest at this year's procession.
Participants marched from the site of the former Ipatiev House, to what was known as Ganya's Pit - where it's believed the bodies were dumped and burned.
The site of the former pit is now surrounded by male Monastery of the Holy Imperial Passion-Bearers.
It took five hours to travel the 20-kilometres between the two sites.
At the end of the procession, a Divine Liturgy in memory of the last Czar and his family was held.

RUSSIA: MOSCOW: BELIEVERS FLOCK TO WITNESS A WEEPING ICON
Russian/Nat
Orthodox believers are flocking to a Moscow church to witness what many say is a minor miracle - a weeping icon of Russia's murdered Tsar Nicholas the Second.
Archpriest Vasily Golovanov of the Ascension Church in the Russian capital claims the icon oozes a steady flow of myrrh practically every day.
Golovanov says this evidence of a miracle is enough to qualify the murdered Russian Tsar for canonisation.
This is the Ascension Church in the Russian capital, Moscow.
It is here that Orthodox believers have been flocking to witness a weeping icon of Russia's murdered Tsar Nicholas the Second.
Many believe it is a minor miracle.
Archpriest Vasily Golovanov claims the icon oozes a steady flow of myrrh almost every day.
The myrrh, an oily amber-coloured substance, is said to have a subtle smell which is more noticeable on days when services are held for the murdered royal family.
One parishioner is convinced it is a miracle.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
One of the miraculous events you can see here in this church is a miraculous evaporating fog which appears on the glass. The icon makes miracles.
SUPER CAPTION: Parishioner
The Russian Orthodox Church stipulates proof of a miracle as one of its conditions for sainthood.
So far, the icon has received no official recognition from the Russian Orthodox Church and its leader, Patriarch Alexi the Second.
But Alexi is believed to have given his blessing for the icon to be displayed in this Moscow church.
The priest says an elderly parishioner took the icon of Tsar Nicholas to the church on November 7 last year - the anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution in Russia.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
The icon came to us during a service on the evening of the 7th. They brought it to the church. It smelt very strongly. It really is a miraculous phenomenon. It's inexplicable by physical laws.
SUPER CAPTION: Archpriest Vasily Golovanov
Since then, hundreds of witnesses are said to have witnessed the flowing myrrh.
Golovanov says this evidence of a miracle should be enough to qualify the murdered Russian royal family for canonisation.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
It's an encouraging signal. Russia must be reborn around the Orthodox Church and the Tsar.
SUPER CAPTION: Archpriest Vasily Golovanov
Nicholas the Second and the Russian royal family were gunned down in a cellar in the town Yekaterinburg in July 1918.
Their bones were finally buried in a ceremony in St Petersburg last summer.
