The glacial sea tunnel from Vardø to the mainland norwegian Finnmark
2,9 kilometer, 88 meter below the Barents Sea: We drive through the glacial sea tunnel from Vardø to the mainland norwegian Finnmark.
Vardo - in the far east of the Varanger, the world's northernmost fortress, Western Europe's only city in the Arctic climate zone, Norway's easternmost town, the oldest city of Finnmark's oldest fishing village, the city and hekseprosess Pomor capital. The municipality consists of dense Kiberg on the mainland and the town of Vardo on the island with the mainland connection through Northern Europe's first underwater tunnel.
The municipality has a population of approximately 2100 people, and it is the rich fishing resources in that is the basis for settlement. There are traces of settlements dating to 6000 - 7000 years before Christ. Around the year 1300 was the first church was consecrated, and that the first fortress was built around then. Vardo County is about 580 square kilometers and has a world of history and nature, a man and a challenging climate.
In 1789, Vardo's trading rights as the first site in northern Norway. In August 1944 the Allies bombed the city and much of the buildings burned down. Nevertheless, there are many buildings which were consumed by fire. In Vardo you will find North Norway's largest wooden building, the old school.
Vardø -- lengst øst i Varanger, verdens nordligste festningsby, Vest-Europas eneste by i arktisk klimasone, Norges østligste by, Nord-Norges eldste by, Finnmarks eldste fiskevær, hekseprosessenes by og Pomorhovedstaden.

On the top of the world, at the northernmost point of Norway
THE ULTIMATE TOURIST DESTINATION IN THE ARCTIC
Here, on the outskirts of Hammerfest municipality, there are plans to build an unusual and exclusive adventure center for international tourists. The center is inspired by earth houses, fishermen's cabins and the Sami people's coastal culture .When they had to sail long distances to fish, they often slept under their boats.
We have symbolized this through glass boats on the roofs of seven earth houses. In total there will be built 42 exclusive suites, where the Northern Lights and the stunning arctic landscape will come extremely close.
In addition, a common circular courtyard for activities, restaurant, bar, spa, sauna and more, will be developed. In the middle of the courtyard there will be a large lavvo (Sami tent) made of glass.

Northern Norway
Northern Norway is the geographical region of Norway, consisting of the three northernmost counties Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, in total about 35% of the Norwegian mainland. Some of the largest towns in Northern Norway are Mo i Rana, Bodø, Narvik, Harstad, Tromsø and Alta. Northern Norway is often described as the land of the midnight sun and the land of the northern lights. Further north, halfway to the North Pole, is the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, traditionally not regarded as part of Northern Norway.
The region is multi-cultural, housing not just Norwegians but also the indigenous Sami people, Norwegian Finns and Russian populations. The Norwegian language dominates in most of the area; Sami speakers are mainly found inland and in some of the fjord areas of Nordland, Troms and particularly Finnmark – though ethnic Sámi who do not speak the language are found more or less everywhere in the region. Finnish is spoken in only a few communities in the east of Finnmark.

SUMMARY
=======
Finnmark (Norwegian: [ˈfɪnnmɑrk] (listen), Northern Sami: Finnmárku, Finnish (at Kven dialects): Ruija) is a county in the eastern part of Norway. By land, it borders Troms county to the west, Finland (Lapland region) to the south, and Russia (Murmansk Oblast) to the east, and by water, the Norwegian Sea (Atlantic Ocean) to the northwest, and the Barents Sea (Arctic Ocean) to the north and northeast.
The county was formerly known as Finmarkens amt or Vardøhus amt. Since 2002, it has had two official names: Finnmark (Norwegian) and Finnmárku (Northern Sami). It is part of the Sápmi region, which spans four countries, as well as the Barents Region, and is the largest and least populated county of Norway.
Situated at the northernmost part of continental Europe, where the Norwegian coastline swings eastward, Finnmark is an area where East meets West, in culture as well as in nature and geography. Vardø, the easternmost municipality in Norway, is located farther east than the cities of St. Petersburg and Istanbul.
