Trondheim, Norway City Guide! Complete firsthand travel guide - everything you need to see!
Norway is an incredible country filled with natural beauty at every turn. But for most visitors, they stay further south in some of the well-known places like Oslo. Today I'll tell you about a fantastic city located up in Central Norway - Trondheim. It may not be as big as some of the other cities, but it has a lot packed in!
It's downtown area is nearly surrounded by water, with Trondheim Fjord on one side and the Nidelva River snaking around the other sides. You can see some amazing tourist sites like Nidaros Cathedral (and it's central tower), the Archbishop's Palace (and it's museum), the Norwegian Crown Regalia, Stiftsgården (Trondheim Royal Palace), the Church of Our Lady, Kristiansten Fortress, the Old Town Bridge (Gamle Bybro), the Gate of Happiness, the Historic Wharves, Bakklandet, Nordre Gate, the King Olav Tryggvason statue, and more! There are also so many fantastic ways to experience the natural beauty, like taking a boat tour in the fjord or taking a hike along Lade trail. And guess what? Because it is so far north, in summer it almost never gets fully dark! So much great stuff to do, and even some great traditional Central Norwegian foods, like Sodd.
Check out this video to learn about all of the great things I saw and did in beautiful Trondheim, Norway!

Nidaros Cathedral Trondheim, Norway Nidaros Norway the City of Kings
Nidaros Cathedral Trondheim, Norway Nidaros Norway the City of Kings If you visit Trondheim, make sure to drop by the Nidaros Cathedral. The Cathedral is the northernmost medieval cathedral in the world, and the second largest in Scandinavia.Nidaros Cathedral is situated in the middle of Trondheim city centre. The cathedral, which was built from 1070 onwards, is the most important Gothic monument in Norway and it was Northern Europe's most important pilgrimage site for Christians during the Middle Ages. The oldest parts still in existence are from the middle of the 12th century. From around 1050 until the Reformation the cathedral was an important destination for pilgrims. Mainly built in the Gothic style, but the oldest parts around the transept reflect the Roman style. During the Middle Ages, and after independence was restored in 1814, the Nidaros Cathedral was the coronation church of the Norwegian kings. King Haakon VII was the last monarch to be crowned there, in 1906. In 1957, King Olav V, was the first king to be consecrated there, rather than crowned. In 1991, the present King Harald V and Queen Sonja were consecrated in the cathedral. The pilgrimage route to Nidaros Cathedral, the site of Saint Olav's tomb, has recently been re-instated. There is a Pilgrim's Office in Oslo which gives advice to pilgrims, and a Pilgrim Centre in Trondheim, under the aegis of the cathedral, which awards certificates to pilgrims who successfully complete the journey.

Nidaros Domkirke, Trondheim
Nidaros Cathedral is Scandinavia's largest medieval building. The west wall is embellished with top-to-bottom statues of biblical characters and Norwegian bishops and kings. Unfortunately photography is not allowed in the interior so you need to be sneaky and out of sight of the church staff if you want your own personal photographic memories.

An Answer to the Danish Church Crisis?
Hear from Anne-Grethe, a Danish pastor who runs a full-fledged Danish Church in sunny California. Anne-Grethe shares how she's managed to run a successful church with a thriving community in the US, and how the Danish Church in Denmark (with its dwindling numbers & drop in participation) might learn a thing or two from The American Way.
