Top best places to visit in Prizren, Kosovo
Prizren is a historic and the second largest city in Kosovo.
Prizren, known since the Middle Ages as the “Serbian Constantinople”, approves its nickname thanks to the historic part of the town, winding streets and old stories and legends.
The city is settled on the banks of Bistrica River and in the center of Old Town is located the Stone Bridge.
Just next to the bridge is the Shadërvan Square, the main urban plaza and a gathering point in the evenings and is surrounded by two significant places of worship:
The Sinan Pasha Mosque, the largest and one of the best mosques in this territory.
And built just behind the corner, the St George Orthodox Cathedral.
The city’s largest church was destroyed by a mob in 2004 and it has been reconstructed since.
In front of the cathedral stands the St Nicholas Chapel, a small single-nave church with beautiful frescoes.
The most prominent structure in Prizren, the Church of Our Lady of Ljevis, is protected by UNESCO but closed since the riots in 2004.
Another important place, the Church of Lady Helper, is a cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Prizren.
But Prizren is a city of mosques. The Bajrakli Mosque is the most beautiful one with an ornate wood work.
Near the center of the town is an early Ottoman-era monument in which oriental and local traditions combine, the Turkish Bath.
There are numerous museums around town worth a visit.
Like the historic Albanian League of Prizren Museum.
Or the Halveti’s Tekke, a house that shows how local people used to lived.
The biggest attraction of the city, however, is a medieval fortress situated above Prizren, the Kaljaja Fortress.
The fort where the capital of Serbia was once located, is in ruins but has an amazing view of the city.

Fourteen years have passed since the great Albanian violence in #Kosovo and #Metohija in 2004, when the target was the entire Serbian people, Serbian property, monuments and shrines of the Serbian Orthodox Church. In the violence known as the Cristal night in Kosovo, 19 people were killed and 4,012 Serbs were expelled, six cities and nine villages were ethnically cleansed, 935 Serbian houses and 10 public facilities (schools, health centers, post ) were destroyed, burned or severely damaged. Special target of the extremists was the spiritual legacy and the heritage of the Serbian people. 35 religious buildings, including 18 monuments of culture, were destroyed, burned or seriously damaged. Devič Monastery near Srbica and the monk quarters of the Monastery of the Holy Archangels near #Prizren were torn down to the ground, while the Church of Our Lady of Ljeviš from the 14th century and the Church of St. George from the 16th century were burned. The Orthodox Seminary of Prizren and the Episcopal seat in Prizren were also destroyed, Serbian cemeteries desecrated. More than 10,000 valuable frescoes, icons, chalices, vestments and other religious relics, as well as baptism, marriage and death certificates which testify about the centuries of existence of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija were missing or damaged.
The reason for the pogrom was a false report of the Albanian media in which the #Serbs were accused of forcing six ethnic Albanian boys from the village Čabar near Zubin Potok to cross the Ibar river, on which occasion three of them drowned. Subsequent investigations by UNMIK - United Nations Mission in Kosovo found that the Albanian accusations were false and that it was all planned in advance, stating that after the tragedy the survived Albanian boys were under strong pressure from Albanian journalists and politicians to accuse the Serbs from the neighboring villages. Over 20,000 members of the international forces weren't ready or simply didn't want to prevent the ethnic violence against the Serbs. It was the second major pogrom that the Albanians committed in peacetime since the province was put under the United Nations protectorate. Up to this day, not a single main actor from the political structures or the former KLA was held responsible for these crimes

???????? Pristine: the capital of Kosovo is full of people and vitality. I thought I would find a quiet and relaxed place, but it’s just the opposite. There are many things to see: the National Library (with an architectural style imitating the Arab baths), the unfinished Church of Christ the Savior; the Newborn Monument (which changes its painting from time to time), the Palace of Youth and Sports; the beautiful Fatih Mosque and Cathedral of the Holy Mother Teresa of Calcutta. George Bush has dedicated an avenue, and Bill Clinton, in addition, his own monument (and his wife Hillary, a clothing store). It’s also interesting to visit the Kosovo museum to learn about archeology and war history.

The Monastery of the Holy Archangels (Serbian: Манастир Светих Архангела/Manastir Svetih Arhangela, Albanian: Manastiri i Arkangjelit të Shenjtë) is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located in Prizren, in southern Kosovo, founded by the Serbian Emperor Stefan Dušan (reigned 1331–1355) between 1343 and 1352 on the site of an earlier church, part of the Višegrad fortress complex. It was the burial church for Emperor Dušan, and represented the culmination of the Serbian ecclesiastical archritectural style, that led to the birth of the Morava school style.
The complex, which ranges over 6,500 m², includes two churches, the main one is dedicated to the Holy Archangels (where Dušan's tomb lied), and the second one is dedicated to St. Nicholas, both built in the Rascian architectural style. The monastery was looted and destroyed after the Ottomans arrived in 1455, and in 1615 it was razed to the ground and its material was used for the construction of the Sinan Pasha Mosque, Prizren.
The entire complex was archeologically explored in 1927, and its remains were conserved after the Second World War. During the last decade of the 20th century, work on the reconstruction was continued, and in 1998 it again became an active male monastery. After the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia and retreat of the Yugoslav army forces, reconstructed objects were burned and looted in June 1999, by members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), after the Kosovo Force (KFOR) arrived. During the 2004 unrest in Kosovo, the monastery was burned and looted again. The entire monastery complex is under protection of the Republic of Serbia, as a Monument of Culture of Great Importance

This short documentary is about the town of Prizren in Kosovo.
It depicts the difficult life conditions for the remaining Serbs in this historical town and those who have been trying to return to their homes.
Before 1999 and NATO bombing of Serbia, there were more than 12 000 Serbs living in this historic town. After years of persecution and terrorizing by Albanians, especially during the March violence of 2004, today there are only 25 Serbs left in the urban town area and only around 195 in the whole municipality, and Thaci's government still halts more significant return of Serbs to their fatherland.
Prizren is greatly valued by Serbs because it used to be the economic, cultural and spiritual center of early medieval Serbian empire and has many important historical monuments and Serbian Orthodox churches. Many of these were ruined over the last decade but some of them are being renovated.
The so-called new Kosovo reality that Western governments talk about is the result of several years of Albanian intense terrorizing, murdering and persecution of local Serbs who were forced to seek exile in Central Serbia and abroad.
It is sad that this modern genocide is taking place at the dawn of the 21st century, in the heart of Europe, and that it was rewarded with the so-called Kosovo independence!
People of the world, open your eyes and see the suffering the Serbian people is exposed to.
We only seek justice and truth. Nothing more, nothing less...
KOSOVO: BRITAIN'S PRINCE CHARLES VISIT

Despite the continued unrest in Kosovo, Britain's Prince Charles on Monday paid a morale-boosting visit to British troops serving in the province.
He met soldiers from the Irish Guards and the Ghurkas.
Security was tight in Pristina.
Some major roads in the capital were closed to traffic and a scheduled walkabout was cancelled at the last minute.
The prince, wearing army fatigues, was greeted by Lieutenant-General Mike Jackson of Britain, outgoing commander of the KFOR peacekeeping force.
The heir to the British throne was then flown by helicopter from the airport to the centre of Pristina.
He had lunch with officers of the Irish Guards, the Gurkha Engineering Squad, the First Battalion Highlanders and British police serving in Kosovo.
Charles continued his journey by road to meet soldiers of the 10-thousand-strong British contingent serving with KFOR.
He was also scheduled to meet U-S General Wesley Clark, outgoing Supreme Commander of NATO forces in Europe, and Bernard Kouchner, head of the United Nations mission which runs Kosovo.
