Area information and property options:
Mojacar Village still retains its Moorish character and architecture and is located on a rocky hilltop in the Sierra Cabrera mountains overlooking the Mediterranean sea. The Sierra Cabrera is a truly stunning backdrop that changes colour as the day progresses including orange and purple.& The beautiful bright light here and the 3,000 hours of sunshine guaranteed each year has made this area very attractive to artists, photographers and sculptors as well as for year round living and holiday-making.
As a whole the town and Playa offers something for everyone, for both holidaying and full-time living. There are many places of architectural and historical interest, such as the Castle, the Church of Santa Maria, the Fuente (where people can still collect spring water to drink), the Plazas, and the City Gate. There is an exceptional range of restaurants and bars to choose from catering for all tastes, including Indian and Mexican and with many restaurants in the pueblo offering breath-taking views of the bay and wider coastline.

Playa Vista de Los Angeles has parking and a little play area for children, located close to urbanisations and hotels along with a few bars and restaurants, it is one of the quieter beaches of Mojácar Playa. From here, heading south, the beaches do tend to be a little busier, especially in the summer months Located in an area easily accessible and well connected, this beach is surrounded by multiple services and leisure facilities. VLA Beach:
Piedra Villazar beach is near the junction roundabout that links the coastal strip of the playa with access to the village, opposite the retail park / commercial centre. Beach info:
We have allocated this as the beach closest to Mojácar Pueblo which remains remarkably true to its Moorish past. Mojácar is a place that begs to be explored by foot.
Points of interest are highlighted on our website and must do’s include:
Statue of Mojaquera and the church: The parish church of Santa Maria was built around 1560 and probably on the site of a former mosque.
Mirador Plaza. This is the nerve centre of the town. From this viewing point we can see, the mountains of Cabrera, Bedar and Almagrera. Spot all neighbouring villages from the mountains to the sea: Turre, Bedar, Los Gallardos, Vera, Garrucha and on clear days Águilas which is first town in the province of Murcia.

Spain: Moorish occupiers put to flight by Spanish conquerors in Alcoy
The town of Alcoy in south-eastern Spain may only have around 60,000 residents, but that doesn't stop it from going all-out to celebrate the defeat of the Moorish conquest of the Iberian peninsula in 1276. While many towns and cities across Spain hold ceremonies to commemorate the reconquest by Spanish forces, the historical re-enactment in Alcoy is among the most spectacular.
On the first day of the festival, the townsfolk parade through the streets of Alcoy in traditional costumes, with townsfolk competing to be a Moor, since their costumes are the most colourful.
The second day of the festival is St. George's Day. On this day the relics of the Saint are removed from the Church of Santa Maria and moved to the temple. That evening there's also a fireworks display.
On the final day of the festival, a battle takes place on the streets of Alcoy. For hours, the two armies flood the streets firing off replicas of anachronistic weapons, such as the blunderbus and arquebus.
The street celebrations are inspired by the Battle of Alcoy, where Christian soldiers confronted the troops of Muslim leader Alazraq in 1276. According to the legend, at the height of the battle St. George appeared mounted on a horse over the city walls, ending the battle decisively in the Spaniards' favour.

Between 1294 and 1307 was built the present castle Templar on the remains of the Arab fortress. The promoters were frey Berenguer de Cardona, who was the Master of the Order of the Temple in Aragon and Catalonia and Arnold of Banyuls frey, who was the Commander of Peniscola. The shields of both are preserved carved stone heraldic forming bands located above the door to the castle and also on the door of the basilica
