The murals of The Holy, Royal Monastery of Kykkos Cyprus
The Holy, Royal and Stavropegic Monastery of Kykkos, is the largest & most famous monastery in Cyprus. Founded in AD1100 by the Byzantine Emperor Alexios Komnenus, Kykkos Monastery lies in the heart of the Troodos mountains. Little remains of the original monastic buildings due to devastating fires throughout the centuries. The present abbot, the Most Reverend Fr. Nikiphoros, undertook the restoration of Kykkos Monastery and this has recently been completed.
The recent murals & paintings that adorn the monastery are particularly fine and it is these that I have concentrated on for this film, following a number of visits. The frescoes in the main part of the church were painted by the Cypriot painter Gorge Georgiou & the golden mosaics are the work of the Cypriot artist Philippos Kepolas....

On Saturday, October 19, 2019, the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle honored His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine with the Athenagoras Human Rights Award at the New York Hilton Midtown. This tribute video summarizes how Metropolitan Epiphaniy has been a strong advocate for religious freedom and a key defender of the ecclesiastical and canonical prerogatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The Athenagoras Human Rights Award is presented every year at the Annual Banquet of the Order of Saint Andrew to a person or organization, which has consistently exemplified by action, purpose and dedication, concern for the basic rights and religious freedom of all people.

STORYLINE:
Catholics in Vatican City have welcomed the meeting of Pope Francis and the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church in Cuba next week.
The historic meeting, announced by both churches on Friday, aims to heal the 1,000-year-old schism that divided Christianity between East and West.
The meeting between Francis and Patriarch Kirill will be the first ever between the leaders of the Catholic and Russian Orthodox churches.
Francis is due to visit Mexico from February 12 to18. He will stop in Cuba on the way and meet Kirill on February 12 at Havana airport, where they will sign a joint declaration.
The two churches split during the Great Schism of 1054 and have remained estranged over a host of issues, including the primacy of the pope and Russian Orthodox accusations that the Catholic Church is poaching converts in Russia.
Those tensions have prevented previous popes from ever meeting the Russian patriarch, even though the Vatican has long insisted that it was merely ministering to the tiny Catholic community in largely Orthodox lands.
The persecution of Christians - Catholic and Orthodox - in the Middle East and Africa, however, has had the effect of bringing the two churches closer together.
