Places to see in ( Rouen - France ) Church of St Joan of Arc
The Church of Saint Joan of Arc is a Catholic church in the city center of Rouen, northern France. The church of Saint Joan of Arc was completed in 1979 in the center of the ancient market square in Rouen.
This is the place where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake for heresy in 1431. A small garden, Le Bouchet, which is outside and to the north of the church marks the exact spot. The stained glass windows come from the 16th century Church of Saint Vincent (originally located a few metres away in central Rouen. The ruins can still be seen today). The old church was almost completely destroyed in 1944 during World War II, but the windows had been removed and stored in a safe location during the war. They were then incorporated into the Church of Saint Joan of Arc.
The modern church Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc and the adjacent market halls were designed by the architect Louis Arretche.[3] The sweeping curves of the structure are meant to evoke both the flames that consumed Joan of Arc and an overturned longship. Many early Christian churches were designed in the shape of an overturned boat. The market halls simultaneously resemble smaller overturned boats and fish with gaping mouths, which are also rich Christian symbols.

SAINT JOAN OF ARC CHURCH IN SAINT-DENIS, FRANCE
The Mutualité Quartier, adjacent to my neighborhood (Saint-Rémy) in Saint-Denis, France, is quiet and residential, but there are still some businesses. Nearby is a huge lettuce farm, run by the Kersanté family for more than 100 years. They employ many workers and pay correct wages. Their fresh produce is available usually in Le Marché de Saint-Denis, which runs every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday mornings in the huge market in Saint-Denis. This market is arguably the largest and the best in all of Europe!
Saint-Denis has the River Seine, and there are seven creeks which run through it. Unfortunately, there were swamps here and shanty towns up to the 1970s when massive urban renewal was done. The creeks ran like open sewers.
Because of its proximity to Paris, because it was the capital of France BEFORE Paris, because of its water, and because since the Dark Ages this was a very important fortified city, Saint-Denis has a rich and interesting history.
The basilica of Saint-Denis and its surrounding churches made this the number one place of Christian pilgrimage in all of France for more than a thousand years.
Joan of Arc had her weapons blessed in the basilica in the 15th century.
There is a lot of talk that in fact, she went to live with her brother in Meaux and died of old age, hiding her true identity. She was spotted and recognized by several people and the accounts seem to have some veracity.
This church dates from 1933, although it looks much older. It is Catholic, and is on rue Clovis Hughes in Saint-Denis, in the Mutualité quarter.
Look at all the work and love that went into building this place! What details! It is pretty on the outside, too.
