350th Anniversary of Holy Name of Mary Parish Monument Dedication Mass
Most Rev. John Doerfler, bishop of the Diocese of Marquette, delivers the homily at Holy Name of Mary Parish in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Saturday, May 26, 2018.
A beautiful celebration was held in recognition of the 350th anniversary of the founding of St. Mary Parish by Father Jacques Marquette. The church was full for the 4 p.m. Mass celebrated by Bishop Doerfler and con-celebrated by Father Sebastian Kavumkal, MST, pastor. Following the Mass a procession took place to the city hall grounds for the dedication and blessing of a monument and plaque near the location of the original church. That was followed by a dinner in the Baraga Hall of St. Mary School.
The parish was the diocese's original see when the first bishop, Venerable Frederic Baraga, was named bishop of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie, encompassing Michigan's entire Upper Peninsula in 1857.

Virgin Mary Apparition Caught on Camera (3 photos)
A photo taken by a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help shows a illuminating human figure that appears to be the Virgin Mary. This miraculous story was reported by WGN-TV Chicago.
One north suburban Catholic Church is talking about a very thought provoking picture, shot with nothing more than an Iphone.
One woman snapped a photo last Friday in the chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview and says she got so much more.
Maureen Kent has been attending Eucharistic adoration at the church for more than 2 years. Kneeling last Friday, she wanted a picture of the Eucharist or host in the monstrance, the ornate gold stand it’s placed in.
The picture showed a bright light, an image larger than a human and appearing to hover next to the host on the alter. Catholics believe the host is the True Body of Christ.
No photo-shopping, she says, no doctoring the digital image. Just what she calls a great surprise when she looked at her screen.
Her friends in the chapel also believe it is the Virgin Mary. Authentication is not, right now, a consideration by Maureen Kent or even the church. They are relishing what they call a miraculous moment, privileged to have seen and believed, they say.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is located at 1755 Grove St. in Glenview, IL

Consecration of Canada
Archbishop Terrance Thomas Prendergast, S.J. reconsecrates Canada and the Diocese of Ottawa to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on July 1st, 2017, the 150th Birthday of the Dominion of Canada.
Video captures part of the consecration prayer. Full text said that day is below:
Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church,
when the first Christian believers came to these shores,
they planted a Cross made of the fresh timber of the New World
as a sign of their faith in your Son and the power of his Resurrection,
placing their lives under your maternal protection
and venerating you as the Immaculate Conception.
You show us how to live a life free from sin in Christ Jesus and,
by our baptism, we hope to share fully with you
in the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
You have accompanied us
on our path through history, in times of peace, conflict, and reconciliation,
and as we arrived at a greater sense of unity and nationhood.
With full confidence we come before you today
giving thanks to God on the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation.
Gathered in the communion of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
we place ourselves completely in the sanctuary of your Heart
and commit the past, the present and the future of Canada to your maternal care.
For this reason, I, N.,
Arch/Bishop/Metropolitan/Eparch of N.,
commend to your Immaculate Heart
the portion of the People of God entrusted to me.
Together with the other Archbishops, Metropolitans, Bishops and Eparchs of Canada,
I also consecrate the people of our country to your maternal Heart
which teaches us to trust in God’s loving plan.
Immaculate Mother of God, we find ourselves at a crossroads in our history;
we are grateful for advances in science and new discoveries,
yet we know the human heart is tempted by selfish interests
and false ideas about the human person and freedom.
Help us, as Catholics, to live in peace with all people of good will
and to dialogue with respect and friendship.
Loving Mother of Our Lord, help us to uphold religious freedom in Canada,
and the natural rights of parents and families;
inspire us to protect the unborn,
to help the poor, the marginalized,
and to give support to the infirm and elderly.
Weighed down at times by our concerns, but hopeful for the future,
we turn to you, the new Eve, Mother of all the living, for help and for strength.
Your Son is the beginning of God’s New Creation and you are his Masterpiece:
intercede for our Churches, for all our people,
especially the Indigenous Peoples, the first stewards of this land of Canada,
and all who come here to live, take refuge, or visit.
[All together]
May the Cross of your Son, planted on Canadian soil and in Canadian hearts,
be known as the Tree of Life, whose fruit is visible and available to all
in the garden of this world.
Mary our Mother, we place our country Canada in the sanctuary of your Holy Heart
for we know that there we will find Jesus,
who lives and reigns with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,
forever and ever.
Amen.

SAULT STE MARIE ONTARIO CANADA
DON PUGH 2003
2003 Sault Sainte Marie is the name of two cities on the Saint Mary's River, which forms part of the boundary between the United States and Canada. The Sainte may also be abbreviated as Ste. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (population 74,566) is a Canadian city, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan (population 16,542) is an American city. Formally founded in 1668 by Father Jacques Marquette as one city, then split into two in 1818 (when the Upper Peninsula was finally transferred from the British province of Upper Canada to the United States), Sault Ste. Marie has the distinction of being the oldest city in both the province of Ontario and the state of Michigan. Sault Sainte Marie is Old French meaning Saint Mary's Rapids, a reference to the rapids in the Saint Mary's River, which joins Lake Superior to Lake Huron. The two cities are joined by the International Bridge, which connects Interstate Highway 75 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Huron Street in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Shipping traffic in the Great Lakes system by-passes the Saint Mary's Rapids via the Soo Locks, the world's busiest canal in terms of tonnage that passes through it. SOURCE WIKIPEDIA«
