STORYLINE
Residents of Cyprus faced a nervous wait on Sunday as negotiations continued on a plan to raise money the island nation needs to qualify for a bailout package.
Cyprus officials and international representatives ended drawn out talks in the early hours of Sunday with no agreement.
Discussions were to resume later on Sunday in Brussels, but time is running out - failure would mean Cyprus could declare bankruptcy in just two days and possibly
have to exit the eurozone.
At the Phaneromeni church in Nicosia, worshippers were arriving for the early Sunday mass.
Local resident Costas Antoniou was confident that if required, the church would be there in people's hour of need.
The Church will help, because it does have the assets; this is a religious matter, it (the Church) will help us, he said.
Meanwhile, at the Tasty Snack cafe close to Elefteria Square, where many banks are situated, business owner Misses Anthy was visibly upset by the ongoing financial crisis in her country.
My business has been affected very, very much! To the point that we, the owners, have to fire our employees and workers, and work 24/7 to maintain and sustain our shops and ourselves, if possible, she said.
Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Finance Minister Michalis Sarris were due to travel to the Belgian capital early on Sunday.
A viable plan must be cemented before finance ministers from the 17 countries that use the euro currency meet in Brussels in the evening.
Cyprus has been told it must raise 5.8 billion euros (7.5 billion US dollars) in order to secure 10 billion euros (13 billion US dollars) in rescue loans from other European countries that use the single currency, as well as from the IMF.
The IMF, European Central Bank and European Commission - known as the troika - will determine whether the plan that the Cypriots devise will meet the requirements for any international bailout package.
Then, the plan is to be presented to the eurozone finance ministers for final approval.
The European Central Bank has said it will stop providing emergency funding to Cyprus' banks after Monday if no new plan is in place.
Without its support, the banks would collapse on Tuesday, pushing the country toward bankruptcy and a potential exit from the 17-nation bloc that uses the euro currency.

Agios Mamantos Celebration SYDNEY AUSTRALIA
The celebration of Agios Mamantos. Celebrated in Sydney Australia at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia on September 2nd, 2012. This event is proudly supported by the hundreds of immigrants who have settled from Troulli Cyprus. They have contributed so much to the Australian way of life and have shaped the Greek Cypriot community to what it is today. We hope that the tradition and holy celebration of Agios Mamantos is commemorated for many years to come by the generations of children, grand children and great grandchildren that have been celebrating this important event since the early 1940s!

11. SOUNDBITE (Greek) Archbishop Chrysostomos II, Head of Cyprus Orthodox Church:

STORYLINE
Cyprus' Archbishop Chrysostomos II used a Sunday Mass in Nicosia to pledge his Orthodox Church's support for the people struggling through the country's huge economic crisis.
He criticised the Cypriot government for agreeing to the terms of a bailout from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.
Government officials should not break the law and violate the constitution. All the decisions (related to bailout) are both illegal and contrary to the constitution, he said outside the church after delivering Mass to his congregation.
The archbishop questioned the validity of Cyprus' position within the eurozone.
In my opinion experts must study whether it is convenient to remain in the euro and whether we will be able to overcome the current situation. These issues ought to be studied so that the government will have a clear view as to where they stand and where we are headed, he said.
The savings converted to bank shares would theoretically allow depositors to eventually recover their losses.
Emergency laws passed last week empower Cypriot authorities to take these actions.
