Travel Russia - Visiting Suzdal Cathedral of Nativity
Take a tour of Suzdal Cathedral of Nativity in Suzdal, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The inclement climate of Russia has not deterred the faith or architectural prowess of its citizens.
An amazing house of worship is the Suzdal Cathedral of Nativity in Suzdal, Russian north of Moscow.
The cathedral breaks the sky with five colorful domes, each with a cross-shaped spire.
The clean white exterior belies the church's 11th century origins.
The cathedral has seen hardships, including several fires, but has survived through the centuries.
The interior has many frescoes of great artistic skill depicting the Virgin Mary and a newborn Jesus.
Suzdal's Nativity Cathedral is a lasting monument to God as well as to Russian medieval structural design.

The bells of the Saviour Monastery of St Euthymius, Suzdal, Russia.
This is a long video of bell ringing. That's it. I debated for a while about uploading this (and I wondered many times while recording it on a 4k, data hungry camera...when is this going to end? The file ended up at 4.7GB!).
In the end, I decided that some people might appreciate it, and if it encourages anyone to make the effort of going to Suzdal in Russia, then it was worthwhile.
The bells themselves ring/chime every hour during opening times in the Cathedral Bell Tower (the red brick building to the right) linked to the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, the Saviour Monastery of St Euthymius, Suzdal, Russia.
Suzdal is one town in the so called Golden Ring of Russia and I would not be shot down for saying Suzdal is the diamond of this series of towns at the heart of the Russian Orthodox Church.
I made the mistake of under estimating how good Suzdal is. I downgraded a planned two day trip to Suzdal/Vladimir into a day trip from Moscow. I therefore missed sooo much. Organising a trip to Russia/Moscow is quite a challenge but it really is worth it. And don't make my mistake, plan a two day trip to Suzdal (there are a small number of hotels there bookable online). As I say in another video, it really is a pain to get to (if you do it independently) but it really is a beautiful place.
White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal (UNESCO/NHK)
These two artistic centres in central Russia hold an important place in the country's architectural history. There are a number of magnificent 12th- and 13th-century public and religious buildings, above all the masterpieces of the Collegiate Church of St Demetrios and the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin.

Stars and Churches in Suzdal and Vladimir | The Golden Ring, Russia
My last trip to two of my favourite towns in Russia: highlights of the Golden Ring – Suzdal and Vladimir.
The shop with the magic mead doesn't have a website, but if you walk from the market next to the Church of the Nativity to here – – you will see it on your right (it has a red door and a friendly, English-speaking owner.)

Russian Around: An American in Suzdal
In this video, we take you on a tour of an American in Suzdal and Vladimir, two of our favorite cities in Russia. Suzdal, and its neighbor Vladimr, lie about 200 kilometers from Moscow. They are situated in Russia’s “Golden Ring,” an area of cities that have an unusually high amount of rich history and cultural heritage. In Vladimir, we got to see a UNESCO world heritage site, a church that had somehow been left standing after the Mongol invasion of the 1200’s. Suzdal gave us incredible opportunities for taking in stunning architecture, delicious food, and even a traditional Russian banya experience. Follow this American and Russian as we embark on the adventure of reliving Russia’s religious past.

Old Suzdal is one of the towns in the Golden Ring - a group of ancient towns and former capitals of Russia. It looks like a fairytale town with so many medieval buildings located in a relatively small area.

The ancient town of Suzdal, the main town of the ancient Russian principality in the 12th-13th centuries, is located in the centre of the European part of Russia, some 200 km east of Moscow, 30 km from Vladimir. The White Monuments of Suzdal are outstanding examples of ancient Russian architecture. These white-stone structures is a unique phenomenon, incorporating the best work of creative master-minds and presenting an amazing synthesis of architecture and monumental art. The architecture Suzdal is an outstanding example of the development and perfection of architectural shapes and building techniques which formed a unique school of architecture. This influential style began and achieved its greatest expression here and illustrates the most important stage of human history and culture in the North-East Rus. Widely used as an example for subsequent construction throughout Russian history, they set a standard as a benchmark of architectural beauty and expressiveness of Russian ecclesiastical architecture. In Suzdal, the Kremlin (fortress) is surrounded by earthen ramparts. Within, dominating the whole town, stands the Cathedral of the Nativity, built in the 13th century and reconstructed in the 16th century, with its five-domed roof and 13th-century Golden Doors. Important monuments in the posad (civil settlement) include several cubic churches of the 16th and 17th centuries, such as the Convent of the Deposition of the Holy Robe and the Refectory Church of the Assumption, and several monasteries. The most important of the latter is the Monastery of Our Saviour and St Euthymius, founded in 1352. Some of the monuments are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Suzdal, Russia, a jewel in the Golden Ring.
Suzdal is a truly stunning little town a few hours from Moscow. Whilst not easy to get to (if you do it independently) because there is no direct link to Moscow, it really is a must-see when visiting Moscow.
The video starts with me stuck in Moscow because I missed my pre-booked train (I had to return to my hotel to collect my passport as it is impossible to leave a Russian city by train without it).
I finally get to Suzdal on a dull, overcast day and initially didn't know what the fuss was about. By the end of the day I was a convert and just annoyed at myself for missing a train and losing 2 hours in Suzdal.
I have included about a minute of non-commetary clips of some of the sites as well as a couple of observations (the covering of buildings under construction with a painted sheet really struck me as a bit strange).
After Suzdal I move to Vladimir where I only had time to video the quite stunning Assumption Cathedral and finish with a bit of zumba. You get it all in Russia.
