Pittsburgh's Polish Hill Neighborhood is a small, quaint, and scenic neighborhood that sits on a hill between the flat neighborhood of The Strip District at the bottom and Bigelow Blvd, which marks it's boundary with The Hill District. It is just east of Downtown Pittsburgh with a commanding view of the Allegheny River. The 1994 Peter Falk movie Roommates was filmed and set there.

Troparion Narodzenia Pańskiego
Troparion Narodzenia Pańskiego, ton 4, mel. galicyjska
Narodzenie Twoje, Chryste Boże nasz,
zajaśniało światu światu światłością poznania:
w nim bowiem ci, którzy gwiazdom służyli, przez Gwiazdę pouczeni zostali,
aby kłaniać się Tobie, Słońcu Sprawiedliwości,
i poznać Ciebie, Wschód z wysoka.
Panie, chwała Tobie!
Troparion of the Nativity, tone 4, Galician chant
-------------------------------------------------
Your Nativity, O Christ our God,
Has shone to the world the Light of wisdom;
For by it, those who worshipped the stars,
Were taught by a Star to adore You,
The Sun of Righteousness,
And to know You, the Orient from on High.
O Lord, glory to You!

SUMMARY
=======
The Poles (Polish: Polacy, pronounced [pɔˈlat͡sɨ]; singular masculine: Polak, singular feminine: Polka), commonly referred to as the Polish people, are a nation and West Slavic ethnic group native to Poland in Central Europe who share a common ancestry, culture, history, and are native speakers of the Polish language. The population of self-declared Poles in Poland is estimated at 37,394,000 out of an overall population of 38,538,000 (based on the 2011 census), of whom 36,522,000 declared Polish alone.A wide-ranging Polish diaspora (the Polonia) exists throughout Europe, the Americas, and in Australasia. Today, the largest urban concentrations of Poles are within the Warsaw and Silesian metropolitan areas.
Poland's history dates back over a thousand years, to c. 930–960 AD, when the Polans – an influential West Slavic tribe in the Greater Poland region, now home to such cities as Poznań, Gniezno, Kalisz, Konin and Września – united various Lechitic tribes under what became the Piast dynasty, thus creating the Polish state. The subsequent Christianization of Poland, in 966 CE, marked Poland's advent to the community of Western Christendom.
Poles have made important contributions to the world in every major field of human endeavor. Notable Polish émigrés – many of them forced from their homeland by historic vicissitudes – have included physicists Marie Skłodowska Curie and Joseph Rotblat, mathematician Stanisław Ulam, pianists Fryderyk Chopin and Arthur Rubinstein, actresses Helena Modjeska and Pola Negri, novelist Joseph Conrad, military leaders Tadeusz Kościuszko and Casimir Pulaski, U.S. National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, politician Rosa Luxemburg, filmmakers Samuel Goldwyn and the Warner Brothers, cartoonist Max Fleischer, and cosmeticians Helena Rubinstein and Max Factor.

From July 14 - 21, 2013, Group 6 traveled to Minneapolis/St.Paul, Minnesota for the PFDAA workshop, hosted by the Dolina Polish Folk Dancers. A variety of steps and dances from Rzeszowskie and Warszawskie suites were learned over the course of four days, respectively, under Polish choreographer, Janusz Chojecki. Following the workshop, the group was entertained with various attractions and a sight-seeing tour around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. The trip concluded with a performance at the Holy Cross Church. The ensemble thanks their various sponsors for making this trip possible.

Nie tak miało być!
autor: bp Grzegorz Ryś
Eliasz to postać starotestamentowa. To co go spotyka jest bardzo aktualne i nieprzemijające. Zostaje on poddany próbie bezradności. Nie widzi sensu swojej działalności.
Bóg wie co robi. Wyprowadza go na Horeb. Tam właśnie doświadcza Boga jako delikatny powiew wiatru.
Bp Grzegorz Ryś pokazuje nam, że nawet najwięksi z proroków mieli doświadczenie pustyni, aby potem jeszcze pełniej doświadczyć obecności Boga.

IN HOC SIGNO VINCES:
I will tremble the walls of Rome, in the Orient I will raise my throne
All the west I reclaimed and Byzantium shall carry my name
Apparition in heaven above, divine light descending like a dove
This God I invoke, to perdition I sentenced my foes
In this sign you shall conquer
In the sign of the invincible sun
Holy cross on shields unbroken
You will see your adversaries bow
Sole ruler of the West and the East, one God for all to believe
I recoiled all your rites, impious and profane in His eyes
I am made a partaker of truth, with freedom of will you can choose
A great council is held and the Church is about to prevail
With this sign I will conquer
With the purity and power divine
I profess the words of gospel
With the baptized soul I will pass

SUMMARY
=======
Solidarity (Polish: Solidarność, pronounced [sɔliˈdarnɔɕt͡ɕ] (listen); full name: Independent Self-governing Labour Union Solidarity—Niezależny Samorządny Związek Zawodowy Solidarność [ɲezaˈlɛʐnɨ samɔˈʐɔndnɨ ˈzvjɔ̃zɛk zavɔˈdɔvɨ sɔliˈdarnɔɕt͡ɕ]) is a Polish labour union that was founded on 17 September 1980 at the Lenin Shipyard under the leadership of Lech Wałęsa. It was the first trade union in a Warsaw Pact country that was not controlled by a communist party. Its membership peaked at 10 million members at its September 1981 Congress, which constituted one third of the total working-age population of Poland. In the 1980s, Solidarity was a broad anti-bureaucratic social movement, using the methods of civil resistance to advance the causes of workers' rights and social change. The government attempted to destroy the union by imposing martial law in Poland, which lasted from December 1981 to July 1983 and was followed by several years of political repression from 8 October 1982, but in the end it was forced to negotiate with Solidarity. In the union's clandestine years, Pope John Paul II and the United States provided significant financial support, estimated to be as much as 50 million US dollars. The round table talks between the government and the Solidarity-led opposition led to semi-free elections in 1989. By the end of August, a Solidarity-led coalition government was formed. In December 1990, Wałęsa was elected President of Poland. Since then Solidarity has become a more traditional, liberal trade union. Its membership had dropped to 680,000 by 2010 and 400,000 by 2011.
