Trinidad, Cuba
Trinidad was founded in 1514 by Diego Velazquez de Cuellar, first named Villa de la Santisima Trinidad. The provincial town, just north of the bay of Ancon on the Cuban south coast (province of Sancti Spíritus), has preserved the authenticity of the Spanish 16th century. In the presentation in the morning we explore the colonial city with cobblestones. First we visit a pottery where several world-famous people have been and where they have a lot of trinkets.
Then in the presentation we look inside a school and in a shop where people can shop with coupons from the still valid distribution system, but there is not much to get.
Then we move into the picturesque centre with the church of St. Francis and the buildings around the Plaza Mayor such as the Palacio Cantero. This is one of the largest and most impressive houses around the Plaza Mayor. It is larger than most buildings in the neighbourhood and has a spacious entrance hall that opens onto a large gallery in the courtyard. From there you look at the watchtower. Original frescoes survive on the plaster of the large hall. It is now used as the Museo de Historia Municipal (Museo de Historia Municipal) which describes the history of Trinidad in detail with the necessary information about the slave trade. In the Plaza Mayor stands the Church of the Holy Trinity, Iglesia Parroquial de la Santísima Trinidad. Inside the building there is also a large Gothic altar dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy (Nuestra Señora de la Piedad). We also see other multicoloured streets and squares. There was also music at the lunnch. In the evening we went to Trinidad to taste the music and nightlife. At dinner we enjoyed the music group at the end of the presentation and it came to dancing.

STORYLINE:
The Episcopal Church in Cuba has become the first in the developing world to appoint a woman bishop, church officials said on Tuesday.
The Reverend Nerva Cot Aguilera was named suffragan or auxiliary bishop on Sunday during a service in the Cuban city of Matanzas, said Robert Williams, director of communications for the US-based Episcopal Church.
She will be consecrated in Havana on June 10, along with Cuba's other newly named auxiliary bishop, Ulises Mario Aguiera Prendes.
Cot told The Associated Press that she was tremendously honoured but also faced a great challenge as the church, with some 10-thousand members, moved toward greater national autonomy.
She said she had not seen the sort of divisions over the ordination of women within Cuba's relatively small church that Anglican communities elsewhere had experienced in recent years.
But nevertheless she said she was astonished, if not deterred, to find out there were no female bishops in Latin American or the Caribbean.
When they (referring to the church) told me that there were no female bishops in Latin America and the Caribbean, the challenge became even bigger for me. I carry on my shoulders the power, the qualities and the charisma that women possess, she said.
Sixty-nine-year-old Cot was a secondary school teacher before church reforms permitted her ordination as one of the first three Episcopal women priests in Cuba in 1987.
I see that this is not only the result of my personal trajectory, it comes from the devotion and consecration that women have shown. They are the ones who have maintained the church throughout many critical moments because they were the ones who have been here. People are happy because this is a victory for all of us (referring to female church members), not just for me, she said.
Well, my saying is God doesn't call upon those who are most capable, he makes those he calls capable, she added.
Cot's husband, Juan Ramon de la Paz Cerezo, is dean of the church's Holy Trinity Cathedral in Havana.
One son is a priest and another daughter is an administrator with the church.
Cuba's communist leaders were embracing official atheism at the time, a stance abandoned in the early 1990s.

TRINIDAD (source Wikipedia):
Trinidad is a town in the province of Sancti Spíritus, central Cuba. Together with the nearby Valle de los Ingenios, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988.
Trinidad was founded on December 23, 1514 by Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar under the name Villa de la Santísima Trinidad.
Hernán Cortés recruited men for his expedition from Juan de Grijalva's home in Trinidads, and Sancti Spíritus, at the start of his 1518 expedition. This included Pedro de Alvarado and his five brothers. After ten days, Cortes sailed, the alcayde Francisco Verdugo failing to prevent Cortes from leaving, despite orders from Diego Velázquez.
Francisco Iznaga, a Basque landowner in the southern portion of Cuba during the first 30 years of the colonization of Cuba, was elected Mayor of Bayamo in 1540. Iznaga was the originator of a powerful lineage which finally settled in Trinidad where the Torre Iznaga (Iznaga Tower) is. His descendants fought for the independence of Cuba and for annexation to the U.S., from 1820 to 1900.
Trinidad is one of the best-preserved cities in the Caribbean from the time when the sugar trade was the main industry in the region.
VIÑALES (source Wikipedia):
Viñales is a small town and municipality in the north-central Pinar del Río Province of Cuba. The town consists mostly of one-story wooden houses with porches. The municipality is dominated by low mountain ranges of the Cordillera de Guaniguanico such as Sierra de los Órganos. Typical outcrops known as mogotes complete the karstic character of the landscape.
North of the town is the Viñales Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tourism centered on the Viñales Valley is developing, the area being protected by constitution since February 1976, and declared a national monument in October 1978. The Viñales Valley has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since November 1999, for the outstanding karst landscape and traditional agriculture as well as vernacular architecture, crafts and music.
Attractions in Viñales include the Viñales Municipal Museum, Casa de Caridad Botanical Gardens, Museo Paleontológico, Palenque (a Maroon village) and the nearby caves (Cueva del Indio, Cueva de José Miguel, Cueva de Santo Tomás) in Valle de Viñales National Park, which were refuges for runaway slaves. There is also a cave that doubles as a nightclub.
Casas particulares (private residences that have been tailored and licensed to operate as bed and breakfasts) offer accommodations to visitors year-round. There are also three hotels located a few kilometers outside of town, rated three stars: La Ermita, Los Jazmines, and Rancho Horizontes San Vicente. The campismo Dos Hermanas comprises 54 cabins (available to tourists), a swimming pool and restaurante.
