Christ is Risen - Russia: Last Major Christian Country in the World Celebrates Birth of Son of God
Subscribe to Vesti News
Today is Easter, the biggest holiday for all Eastern Orthodox Russians and people around the world. Unlike Western Christians, we think that Christ's resurrection was even more important than his birth. The Son of God has merited eternal life because he had sacrificed himself for people's sins, thus defeating death and sin. Last night, ceremonial services were held in all Eastern Orthodox churches. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill led the service in the Christ the Savior Cathedral.
Baranovka: Failed assault on the UOC temple – timeline
On March 10, 2019, in the town of Baranovka, Zhitomir region, extraordinary events occurred.
Despite the fact that the large community of the UOC church long ago unanimously expressed its loyalty to the UOC led by His Beatitude Onufriy, local authorities organized another community in which there are residents of the city but not a single parishioner. These people were provoked to storm and seize the temple.
On Forgiveness Sunday, a deputy from the Radical Party, Oleg Kovalsky, organized a “veche” (popular assembly) on the town square in which he called upon those gathered to take over the church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin. As a result, the agitated crowd rushed to the temple. Parishioners were beaten, dragged from the porch and thrown out to the other side of the church fence. At that time, about 150 parishioners closed inside the temple after the Sunday Liturgy, many were with their children.
The raiders cut the doors with a grinder but failed to squeeze in. Late in the evening, Metropolitan Nicodemus, the ruling bishop of the Zhitomir eparchy, arrived to support his flock. The doors were welded back. The parish was able to stand up to the assault.

The Island of Valaam. / Остров Валаам.
Valaam is the island in Republic of Karelia of Russia, located in the Northern part of the largest freshwater lakes in Europe - Ladoga, it is the largest island in the Valaam archipelago. On the island there is the village of Valaam, and the monument of Russian architecture - the Valaam monastery, founded before the baptism of Russia, in the year 960, the monk Sergius and Herman, the Greek Holy monks. Transfiguration monastery became the spiritual center of Ladoga lands. It is believed that in ancient times on the island, was located the main temple of Veles (or Volos) and Perun, who were the main deities for the Gentiles living close. The monastic tradition says that the Holy Apostle Andrew, enlightener of the Scythians and the Slavic peoples, moving along the route from the Varangians to the Greeks, blessed of cross the mountain on the island. In the 15th century the monastery was called the Great Lavra or the Northern Athos. Here was the center of world Orthodoxy and writing of books. By the early 16th century in the monastery lived 600 monks. Now in the monastery about two hundred inhabitants. Life revived in All saints, the Baptist, St. Nicholas, Svyatoostrovsky, Sergievsky sketes.
Period 1839-1917 is the heyday of the monastery. In 1989 on December 13, the day of memory of St. Andrew, when the island came six monks, the monastery began the process of revival. And 16 years later, in 2005, was first heard 1000-pound bell Andrew, mounted on the bell tower in the monastery in the framework of the restoration of an ancient belfry. The feast of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary September 21, 2008 Patriarch Alexy II consecrated the St. Vladimir skete on Valaam island and conducted the first divine Liturgy in the temple. Resurrection skete, located above Big Nikon Bay, on the mountain, was built in the early twentieth century in the place where according to tradition St. The Apostle Andrew erected a stone cross. Valaam island attracts every year thousands of tourists. The reason - the Valaam Islands have a unique nature, pine forests on the cliffs, warm and quiet inland lakes, the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Valaam monastery. During its formation, the monks brought the land, seeds and seedlings of plants from different parts of our country. For such a Northern location is not usual to see some trees and grass. The age of some of them is over three hundred years. The work of the Valaam monks are so fundamental that some areas are truly hand-made. Balaam - the natural reserve, a unique monument of Park art. There are more than 480 species of plants. The island was visited repeatedly by emperors Alexander I, Alexander II, and other members of the imperial family and also Tchaikovsky and Mendeleyev.
The present life of the monastery, another indication that faith invariably raises and restores the monastery from the ruins. So it was throughout the history of Valaam barbarous raids of the Swedes in ancient times, the bombing and the uncertain fate of the monastery during World War 2, it complete, it would seem that the devastation in the era of atheism – monastic life always has returned to these shores.

Armenian Clergy Florals Chant
This video was taken in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem, on Friday, October 27th, 2006. we were visiting the church as the clergy florals were chanting as they ascend the 42 stairs from the Chapel of the Invention of the Holy Cross (approximately 9 meter / 30 feet downstairs), towards The Chapel of St. Helen, which itself is located 29 stairs from the ground level (approximately 6 meter / 20 feet below ground level). you can hear the effect of the church marbly and rocky walls, as the sound waves echoes in the space. it was truly a divine experience.

33rd Anniversary of the Consecration of H.H. Mar Dinkha iV
Mar Dinkha IV (Assyrian Neo-Aramaic: ܡܪܝ ܕܢܚܐ ܪܒܝܥܝܐ and Arabic: مار دنخا الرابع) is the current Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East. He was born Mar Dinkha Khananya on 15 September 1935, in the village of Darbandokeh (Derbendoki), Iraq, and was baptized in the Church of Mar Qaryaqos located in the village of his birth. He is the fourth in the line of succession to the Bishopric of Urmia.
He gained his elementary education under the tutorship of his grandfather, Benyamin Soro. In 1947—at the age of eleven—he was entrusted to the care of Mar Yousip Khnanisho, Metropolitan and the Patriarchal representative for all Iraq, the second-highest ranking ecclesiastic of the Assyrian Church of the East. After two years of study, he was ordained deacon in the church of Mar Youkhana in Harir by Mar Yousip on 12 September 1949. On 15 August 1957, he was ordained to the priesthood, and appointed to minister Urmia, Iran. Mar Dinkha's priesthood as Metropolitan of Iran and Teheren] reestablished a line of succession which ceased to exist after the 1915 killing of his predecessor. In 1962, Mar Dinkha moved from northern Iraq to Tehran. During his tenure in Iran, he established a seminary and advocated for Assyrian nationalism and ecumenism. Responding to popular demand, Catholicos-Patriarch Mar Eshai Shimun XXIII consecrated Khananya as bishop on 17 October 1968, in the church of Martyr Mar Gewargis in Tehran.
After the assassination of Mar Eshai Shimun XXIII, the Church of the East had an urgent need to restore the leadership. In 1976, the prelates of the church convened in London to elect a new Catholicos Patriarch and chose was Mar Dinkha as the most qualified candidate to fill the post. He was consecrated on 17 October 1976, in the West London Church of St. Barnabas, Ealing. With this consecration, Mar Dinkha IV became the 120th successor to the Apostolic See of Seleucia-Ctesiphon (Babylon). He also announced that the hereditary line of succession for the Patriarchy which had existed for 500 years was discontinued with his tenure, allowing any cleric from the Church of the East to be elevated to Catholicos-Patriarch.
Mar Dinkha established headquarters—along with four other houses of worship—in Chicago, Illinois, United States in part due to the instability of the IranIraq War. This conflict as well as Saddam Hussein's policy of Arabization in Iraq, the Gulf War and subsequent sanctions against Iraq intensified the Assyrian diaspora from the region. Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolution and Shi'a emphasis in Iran created a tense situation for Assyrians in the Middle East. During the reign of Mar Shimun XXIII and Mar Dinkha IV, American membership in the Church of the East has gone from 3,200 in the 1950s to approximately 100,000 in 2008.
In 2005, the Patriarch conducted discussions with President of Iraqi Kurdistan Massoud Barzani on returning to the Apostolic See in northern Iraq and constructing a new residence in Ankawa. On 15 July 2007, Mar Dinkha celebrated 50 years of his priesthood. A ceremony was held at St. George Cathedral 42°0′47″N 87°40′11″W in Chicago, where a portion of Ashland Avenue was renamed His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV Blvd. In 2008, he received an honorary degree from the University of Chicago, in part because of his emphasis on education—he has a stated goal of only appointing theologians with doctoral degrees to the position of bishop.
