The exhibition at the Croatian Museum of Tourism from guests Adriatic coast, which opened yesterday in Opatija, presented three pictographs minded Schweiger-Lerchenfeld who each his technique, from his point of view recorded Adriatic coast. The centerpiece of the exhibition is dedicated to the photographer Karl Kaser and his eye-catching photos of life on the coast and coast for the first time presented in Croatia. Split Croatia old photos

Under Venetian rule Split was part of Venetia Republic thus losing all autonomy. Also Venetian brought in Split Italian language and western Latin culture. City was important part of Venetia as trading post for south-eastern Europe and city it self also grow culturally. Famous citizen Marko Marulić was born here and his poem Judith was written both in Latin and Croatian language. Still only aristocracy (mostly Italian) was literate and educated, rest of citizens (mostly Croatians that were majority) were illiterate.

As Turks grow in power, Split its self was in danger. Most of Dalmatia (as large portions of Eastern, Southern and Central Europe) were conquered by Turks. In wars between Turks and Venetians from 1645 to 1669 city it self was few times besieged by Turks; but defenders from joined Croatian – Italian forces defend the city. Venetians helped build Fort Gripe for defending city. Fort Gripe is still alive today and it is used as tourist attraction, as one of many museums in city, and place for concerts and other events.

In 1806 Split fell under Napoleon rule in so called Illyrian Provinces after Napoleon was victorious against Venetia and Empire of Austria. That period was very short (1806 -1813) but Split had huge rebuilding and reorganizations and that short time left trail in history of city. Today there is a Marmont Street in old part of city.After Napoleon was defeated Split felt under the rule of Austrian Empire and it remained so until end of WW1 in 1918 year.

Međugorje - 10.04.1991

Međugorje or Medjugorje is a town located in western Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Herzegovina region around 25 km southwest of Mostar and close to the border of Croatia. Since 1981, it has become a popular site of religious pilgrimage due to reports of apparitions of the Virgin Mary to six local Catholics.
The name Međugorje literally means an area between mountains. At an altitude of 200 metres above sea level it has a mild Mediterranean climate. The town consists of an ethnically-homogeneous Croat population of over 4,000. The Roman Catholic parish (local administrative and religious area) consists of five neighbouring villages, Međugorje, Bijakovići, Vionica, Miletina and Šurmanci.
Following reports of apparitions, successive bishops of Mostar ruled the claims groundless. In March 2010, in view of continued public interest, the Holy See announced that the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith was forming an investigative commission, composed of bishops, theologians, and other experts, under the leadership of Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the Pope's former Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome.
Our Lady of Međugorje is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary by those who believe that she has been appearing since 24 June 1981 to six children in Međugorje (then part of socialist Yugoslavia).
