Ray White Ferntree Gully - 60 Churchill Park Drive, Lysterfield South - Lyn Kenny
Live the good life
The living is easy in this impressive, contemporary home with views that are guaranteed to take your breath away. The calming vista, captured through the extensive use of glass, will help you forget your city stress.
Cleverly designed to take advantage of the sloping block and rear north-facing aspect, this house oozes class. Crisp white decor, porcelain tile floors, sparkling chandeliers and high ceilings create a style as timeless as the view.
This house exudes designer and will reflect the personality and taste of those accustomed to the best in quality design, finishes and lifestyle.
Set on 1987m2 on one of the highest points overlooking the Churchill Park estate, the home is enveloped in light and comfort.
Set back from the street, you enter the home on the first floor, where a study or 5th bedroom is located just near the entry.
The luxurious master bedroom is opulently fitted with plush carpets and a spa ensuite with granite topped twin vanity, extra large shower and free-standing bath tub. There is also a walk-in robe.
Carefully designated living areas make entertaining a breeze, with a formal dining room and formal lounge.
But the jewel in this crown is the informal living area that looks over Churchill Park Estate and National Park.
Expansive double glazed walls of glass, raked ceilings and clerestory windows allow the rooms to be flooded with light.
The chic black and white kitchen is at the centrepiece with quality stainless-steel Smeg appliances, a beautiful waterfall granite island bench and practical butler's pantry.
It is adjoined on one side by the meals area, and on the other by the family room. Bi-fold doors open to a balcony that looks over the enormous landscaped back garden with gazebo and fish pond.
The lower level is ideal for children, where three bedrooms sit - all with built-in robes - along with a family bathroom and tiled rumpus room. The rumpus room opens to a paved alfresco area.
Two 5000 litre and one 10,000-litre water tanks feed the house and garden, while evaporative cooling and ducted heating ensure year-round comfort, and there is back to base security

KURTH KILN, GEMBROOK
Presenting Kurth Kiln at Gembrook in Melbourne, Australia.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
Petrol rationing during the time of the second world war, brought about a need to explore fuel alternatives. Wood gas from charcoal was viewed as a possible alternative, mainly because of the abundance of timber. The Forests Commission establish several kilns, but in order to improve production, also built a prototype kiln from a design by Ernest Kurth, Professor of Chemistry at the University of Tasmania. While the prototype worked well, it was charcoal that failed in the end. The converter that was required for a vehicle was expensive and the fuel produced was not very efficient. Some people were also exposed to fumes and on occasion, the converters would catch fire. The kiln started production in 1942 and ceased production in 1944. Today, it resides within the Kurth Kiln Regional Park, which is managed by Parks Victoria. There is a picnic and camping ground as well as several walking tracks. The historic structures are maintained by volunteers and Kurth Kiln remains the only type of its kind in Australia.
