Churchill and The Cabinet War Rooms - Sir Winston Churchill's secrets unveiled
This drama-documentary evokes what it was like to work closely with Churchill in the Cabinet War Rooms during the dark days of the Blitz and the later bombing raids on London.
The programme combines superb archive film from the Imperial War Museum's vast collection, with atmospheric dramatisations actually filmed inside the Cabinet War Rooms -- the real locations from where Churchill led the nation.
The programme includes first-hand accounts which reveal the challenges of working with Britain's bullish war leader at close quarters. The programme then traces the key stages of the war from Churchill's viewpoint -- his relationship with President Roosevelt, the turning point at El Alamein, D-Day and the final journey to victory. At his finest hour he is defeated in the General Election in the summer of 1945. It is a dramatic story of how one man's leadership rallied the nation and turned almost certain defeat into victory.
TOUR OF THE WINSTON CHURCHILL WAR ROOMS AND BUNKER, LONDON
Churchill's wartime bunker is a fascinating piece of living history; an underground maze of rooms that once buzzed with round-the-clock planning and plotting, strategies and secrets. As you explore the historic rooms for yourself, you can imagine what life would have been like during the tense days and nights of the Second World War.
You'll begin your journey at the War Cabinet Room, where Churchill and his inner circle plotted the war. See the chair in which Churchill presided over meetings, the scratch marks on the arms bearing witness to the intense pressure he was under at these times.
As you go deeper into the warren of rooms, you'll discover how life and work continued underground, from top-secret conversations between Churchill and Roosevelt in the Transatlantic Telephone Room to more domestic concerns in the Churchills' Kitchen.
In the Map Room, the informational hub of the entire site, everything has remained exactly as it was when the lights were finally switched off on 16 August 1945. The so-called 'beauty chorus' of colour-coded telephones; the books and documents piled on desks; the rationed sugar cubes found in an envelope belonging to Wing Commander John Heagarty; the wartime maps covering the walls, and the thousands of tiny pinholes dotting the progress of Allied ships across the Convoy Map.
Right next door to the Map Room, you'll find Churchill's Room, an office-bedroom boasting the most comfortable living conditions within the bunker. Churchill only slept overnight in this room on three occasions, but he did make four of his wartime speeches from the desk here, including his 11 September 1940 speech warning of Hitler's plan to wage a war of terror against the United Kingdom.

Kensington Palace is where Princess Diana lived, and now where William and Kate live with their children. We saw a beautiful collection of Princess Diana's dresses, plus the state apartments of past Kings and Queens. We also visited Westminster Abbey, took a fascinating tour of the bunker and War Rooms where Winston Churchill and his staff lived during WWII. Finally we saw Buckingham Palace and the surrounding park.

4. Churchill War rooms which is a branch of the Imperial War Museums that are scattered round in Britain, it’s a biographical museum exploring the life Winston Churchill and how he had directed the second world war. This is his bedroom, and this his shirt It took us 3 hours to complete plus the waiting time to get to it so booking in advance is recommended. Then the British museum, free entrance takes up all day and It documents the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present Some of its departments were: Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome, Egypt and Sudan, Japan and China, Africa and the Americas. I recommend focusing on some of the departments and reading about the museum in advance because its huge and you would be fascinated by its massive collection.

Churchill war rooms is an interesting place to visit for all the different stories that will reveal lots of secrets hidden beneath the streets of Westminster in the underground nerve centre where Winston Churchill and his inner circle directed the Second World War. Are you ready to know more about the secrets of the Second World War?
Churchill War Rooms is an underground bunker where the leaders of Britain were actually writing down history through the acts and plans which gave them the chance to win the Second World War. This place will give the visitors the permission to step back in time and know more about the Second World War through walking the labyrinth of rooms and corridors that stretch below Westminster and which sheltered Winston Churchill and his war cabinet from the German bombing raids. Visitors will also be able to experience and check Churchill Museum in order to know more about the story of his life and legacy - it is actually one place to come out from with lots of information loaded into your mind.
The visit to the Churchill War Rooms will be about visiting and exploring different things. First, visitors will get the chance to experience the life in Churchill's bunker and this will be about the stories of the staff who used to work there back in time along with the pictures, objects and even interviews with those people. One of the interesting things to get to see there is the noiseless typewriter which was imported from the United States because Churchill hated anything that would make any kind of noise, even if it is related to some work being done on the typewriter.
The second part of entering Churchill War Rooms is actually about Churchill Museum, where visitors will get the chance to see the real and original personal items and artefacts of the time and which will all tell the visitors more about the life of Churchill from being a child, his military career and the two periods as a Prime Minister. In addition to that and in this museum, visitors will get the chance to read some of the letters that Churchill used to write to his wife, hear the speeches that he once gave and see lots of his original personal things like his drawings, his favorite cigar, etc.
Third and last are the cabinet war rooms which are the main reason why we are referring to Churchill War Rooms in the first place and why we are suggesting it for people to visit. It is interesting to walk in the hidden place where Churchill used to put down his plans during the Second World War, it will give you a glimpse of how life was like back in these tense days; you will step into the map room where Churchill used to meet his War Cabinet, which has remained exactly as it was left when the lights were switched off back in 1945. Down in this place that is hidden in Westminster, one will walk through those old corridors and listen to the stories of those who lived, worked and slept in the Cabinet War Rooms around the clock. The most exciting and interesting rooms to see include the Map Room, Churchill's Bedroom, the Cabinet Room, as well as other rooms and facilities found there. There is also the secret telephone room which is disguised as a private bathroom where Churchill used to speak to the President of the United States.
Walking down in the corridors of this old and historical place is like getting back in time to live with Churchill and check the plans and secrets that he once had during the Second World War. This is one of the interesting places that one could get to visit in London and in order to make sure that you are not ruining the rest of your day, you should make sure that the time you are going to spend will be about 90 minutes, although some people spend half the day there checking every corner and every detail of the place and eventually sitting to have something to drink at the attached cafe.
There are lots of different things to be done in London and the ones which you might already know about and have on your plan include Big Ben ( London Eye ( Buckingham Palace ( the Tower of London ( and other places like the HMS Belfast which is located in London (

Museums of London - Churchill War Rooms
The Churchill War Rooms is a museum in London and one of the five branches of the Imperial War Museum. The museum comprises the The Cabinet War Rooms, a historic underground complex that housed a British government command centre throughout the second world war and the Churchill Museum, a biographical museum exploring the life of Britains wartime Prime Minister, Winston Churchill.
Construction of the Cabinet War Rooms, located beneath the Treasury building in the Whitehall area of Westminster, began in 1938. They became fully operational on 27th August 1939, a week before Britain declared war on Hitlers Germany. The War Rooms remained in operation throughout the Second World War, before being abandoned in August 1945 after the surrender of Japan.
After the war, the historical value of the Cabinet War Rooms was recognised. Their preservation became the responsibility of the Ministry of Works and later the Department for the Environment, during which time very limited numbers of the public were able to visit by appointment. In the early 1980s, the Imperial War Museum was asked to take over the administration of the site and the Cabinet War Rooms were open to the public in April 1984. The museum was reopened in 2005 following a major redevelopment as the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms, but in 2010 this title was shortened to the Churchill War Rooms.

Darkest Hour - Joy Hunter on life as a typist at Churchill War Rooms
Joy Hunter was just 18 years old when she began working at Churchill War Rooms and joined the team of people working long hours in the secret underground rooms from which Winston Churchill and his team charted the course of the Second World War.
While the work was intense, Joy remembers Churchill as being a 'man of great emotions' – and recalls a memorable evening during which she watched a film with him.
