Nikko Rinnoji Taiyuin Temple （輪王寺 大ゆ院） and Mausoleum, Nikko District, Japan
Nikko Rinnoji Taiyuin Temple and Mausoleum is located in the Nikko district of Tochigi prefecture in Japan. This temple is part of the Nikko UNESCO world heritage temples and shrines.
This temple is mostly known as the mausoleum of the third Tokugawa shogun Iemitsu (grandson of the first Tokugawa, Ieyasu). It's architectural technique and style as well as the arrangement of the buildings are virtually the same as those of the original Toshogu Shrine in Nikko. Various gates approaching the main temple hall, are as extravagant as the original Nikko Toshogu shrine.

Nikko Toshogu Shrine is part of the Nikko UNESCO World Heritage Temples and Shrines. It is located in the Nikko district in Tochigi prefecture, Japan.
Nikko Toshogu Shrine is dedicated to the First Tokugawa of Japan, Ieyasu Tokugawa. He is responsible for unifying Japan, when there were many civil wars within the country. The shrine itself was built by his son Hidetada Tokugawa.
The extravagant gates, bell towers, lanterns and the main hall, were an excellent example of Edo period artistry. It is said that the Shrine cost around 250 million US dollars to in today's currency to build.

I spent a night at an onsen ryokan in 日光 Nikko . The view of chuzenji lake from the hotel window was incredible. kegon waterfall was really worth the trip and i got some fantastic drone shots early in the morning.
Follow me to get a good idea of things to do in and around kegon falls and chuzenji lake including a fabulous boat ride which was included as part of the Nikko all access pass.

Nikko Futarasan Shrine (日光 二荒山神社）, Nikko District, Japan
Futarasan Shrine is located in Nikko district of Tochigi prefecture in Japan. It is part of the holy trinity (Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine and Rinnoji Temple) of UNESCO World Heritage Shrines and Temples in Nikko district.
This shrine (二荒山神社） is dedicated to Mt. Futara (Futarasan). Mt. Futara is also known as Mt. Nantai (Nantaisan). Mt. Futara is one of the most beautiful and diverse mountains in the eastern Japan area. The Chuzenjiko (Chuzenji Lake) is also hosted by the enormous Mt. Futara.

Discovering Nikko. Kegon Falls, Lake Chuzenji and Yumoto Onsen in early summer
Back of the nikko is called Oku-nikko area. In Oku-nikko area, there is Kegon Falls. I wonder lots of foreign people visit Kegon Falls, however, they do not visit Lake Chuzenji, Senjogahara and Yumoto Onsen. So, let me show about them. Especially I like Yumoto Onsen, means Nikko Yumoto Spa.
Best season for visiting Nikko are both late fall and early summer. This video is taken in early summer.

The lake can be enjoyed from sightseeing boats that depart from Chuzenjiko Onsen.
The almost 100 meter tall Kegon Waterfall is the most famous of Nikko's many beautiful waterfalls.

Nikko is a small city in Japan’s Tochigi Prefecture, in the mountains north of Tokyo. It’s the site of Toshogu, the famed Shinto shrine established in 1617 as a lavish memorial for Tokugawa Ieyasu, founding ruler of the Tokugawa shogunate, or Edo Period. The shrine comprises the gilded Yomeimon Gate, the main sanctuary set in a cedar grove and the tomb itself.
Japan is a lovely country to be visited and we loved to go there again someday.

Chuzen-ji Temple is located near Chuzenji-ko (Chuzenji Lake), about 3000 feet above sea level. Chuzenji Lake is about an hour bus ride up the mountain from Nikko bus stop.
Nikko UNESCO World Heritage Site, contains many great sites in one single area. Foreign visitors usually only see these temples and neglect to go to Chuzenji Lake. Chuzenji Lake and the water falls there are one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Specifically the fact that the lake is formed between mountains at 3000 feet above sea level. If you go to Nikko, you can cover both the Nikko temples and Chuzenji Lake. See the Nikko temples during the morning and go to Chuzenji Lake in the evening.
Many foreign embassies that are in Tokyo have guest houses for their Ambassadors near Chuzenji Lake.
Chuzen-ji Temple's main deity is Tachiki Kannon. You can see this beautiful Kannon statue in the Hondo (no photos allowed). Story has it that it was carved using a single Katsura tree hundreds of years ago.
