City Tour and River Boat Dominican Republic
Carnival cruise excursion.
The port of call was: La Romana.
River tour was on the Chavón River.
City toured: Altos de Chavón.
Some info about the city:
Designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro and Paramount Pictures master designer Roberto Coppa, this replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village was handcrafted by skilled Dominican artisans down to the last brick. The hamlet is now home to the Altos de Chavon School of Design, an affiliate of New York's Parsons School of Design. Altos de Chavón's main attraction is the 5000-seat Roman-style amphitheater. Frank Sinatra was the first to perform here in 1982, and the venue has since hosted stars like Marc Anthony, Shakira, Sting and Gloria Estefan. Explore the impressive structure while enjoying views out over the valley and the River Chavón. Peruse artisan shops featuring jewelry, clothing, embroidered linen and fine cigars. Stop by the Regional Museum of Archaeology to see the collection of pre-Columbian Indian artifacts sourced from the region, then browse the many art galleries in town to see more modern works. Dine at one of the many Mediterranean restaurants or cafes.
Info from-
Some river info from same website.
Follow the same winding waterway as popular films like Jurassic Park, Rambo and Apocalypse Now along the Chavón River, arguably the most picturesque river in the country. The best way to see the river is aboard one of the river cruises that pass through steeps gorges, up to 250 feet tall in places, and offer glimpses of the unique wildlife that lives along the riverbank, including freshwater turtles and hawks. The Chavón River also passes by the interesting and beautiful Altos de Chavón, an artist’s colony perched high on a hill above the river that was designed to look like an ancient Mediterranean village, complete with cobblestone streets and an Greek-style amphitheater.
The Art of the Cigar
Ladies with Tabacalera de Garcia hand-roll Vega Fina cigars at a small off-site facility in LaRomana in the Dominican Republic. In a lengthy and complex process, tobacco leaves are cut, dried, and aged, and categorized by taste and strength. The rollers then use a leaf binder to wrap the cigar's filler, then wrap with a solid leaf.

a little Dominican Republic.
Dominican Republic has so many different areas to choose from, LaRomana/Bayahibe on the Caribbean side with beautiful beaches, Saona Island, cigar factories and sugarcane fields, Punta Cana with a beach that goes for some 20 miles fringed by towering palms and Samana, virtually deserted is the new area for those wanting to getaway from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy destinations.

Pluses:
The grounds were clean and not crowded. Beach was beautiful. Rooms were 5 star. Staff was not pushy at all and very helpful.
5 min drive from the airport. Brand new hotel, and everything is very clean and nicely furnished. Rooms are big and comfortable and WiFi quality is quite good
The beach is amazing, one of the few places I went in the Dominican Republic where you can properly swim in the ocean
I also really liked the beach restaurant, nice staff and very good food
Minuses:
Not really a resort as much as a hotel on the beach. Very small. Also, food was on the expensive side ($75 for 2 adults and 1 child for a buffet breakfast).
A pretty small property, good if you like more intimate places but I think it would get a bit boring to stay there for your entire vacation.

The daily routine / course of the day / excursion overview
Our half-day tour is of course carried out in an air-conditioned bus. On the highway from Bavaro on places, such as La Otra Banda to the provincial capital Higuey, which has nearly 145,000 inhabitants and in the city, the busy life of the Dominicans prevails.
Our bus is passed on the left and right of motorcycles, on each corner a Colmato (local small supermarket) and loud music.
Here are faced with poverty and wealth.
Electricity, sometimes there and sometimes not, and we in the middle.
We visit the Basilica of the Saints Virgen de la Altagracia, of which worldwide only 13 exist.
This attracts several 10000 pilgrims every year.
And then, fully in and in the middle of the Dominicans.
The weekly market. Narrow aisles, left and right the sellers. In between, a motorbike with 4 people on the seat.
Not just fruits, vegetables, kitchen appliances, but also Woodoo stores. Everything is possible here.
Then the meat alley. Freshly slaughtered chickens, pigs and cattle. Not cut into butchers, but directly on the market.
Here you have to stay a little steadfast. At least now you take a lot of pictures.
Impressions that will be remembered and that you will never forget.
Afterwards we drive through Hiquey and on to Veron, my place of residence. Here we eat one of the favorite meals of the Dominicans. The Empanadas, deep-fried dumplings filled with chicken, beef, pork or even vegetarian. Freshly prepared directly from hand to mouth.
Then it goes to a chocolate factory. No sales event, but try, snack or just watch. After a coffee roasting and the cigar factory.
Back at the hotel:
around 14.00 - 14.30 clock with many new impressions and memories.
Services included:
- Food and drinks
- Transport * in the air-conditioned bus.
- entrance fee for the basilica
- Guided tour through the weekly market
- Visit to the chocolate factory
- Visit to the coffee roaster
- Visit the cigar factory

You will then receive a reservation confirmation from us.
The payment of the excursion will be made by excursion on the bus.
