Jungfrau, Grindelwald and Wengen, Switzerland, in One Day
You can get to the top of Switzerland’s Jungfrau mountain in one of the most scenic journeys of your entire Swiss visit, while on the same big day you can find time for several easy hikes and scenic rides by train and cable car, enjoying some of the world’s finest sights, walking Grindelwald's glacier gulch, and mountain trails near Wengen.

Plan to spend 2 hours at the day's main destination, the Jungfrau, at 9:50 nearly 4,000 meters elevation, enjoying the views, frolicking in the snow and experiencing the many exhibits on offer at the summit. Then take the train back down towards Wengen, then hop off along the way for an easy downhill hike at 18:07 in Alpine meadows to Wengen village. Next take a scenic round-trip train ride down to Lauterbrunnen at 19:29 and back up. A cable car ride then carries you on a different route at 21:20 back over the mountains from Wengen to Grindelwald, which is a lovely village to visit, plus you can take a hike there in a glacier canyon at 23:16 . Then take the train back down to Interlaken where you started the day.

Awesome View Of Jungfrau - Switzerland.
Switzerland The Heaven On Earth - Video 3.
What is the Jungfraujoch? : The Jungfraujoch is an Alpine attraction and viewing point, at an altitude of 3454 m. It is located in between the well known mountains Mönch and Jungfrau, in the heart of the UNESCO Natural World Heritage property Jungfrau - Aletsch - Bietschhorn. The cogwheel train is the only way to get there. The train station is the highest one in Europe.
The Jungfraujoch can be reached by cogwheel train only. There are multiple stations to board the train.
All trains to the Jungfraujoch depart from Kleine Scheidegg. Kleine Scheidegg can be reached via Interlaken - Zweilütschinen - Lauterbrunnen - Wengen, or via Interlaken - Zweilütschinen - Grindelwald. Most people start their trip to the Jungfraujoch in Interlaken, but you can board the train at any station along the way. We recommend to go up via one route and go down via the other. That way you see the most of this stunning Alpine area.
Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald can be reached by train and by car. The rest of the area is only accessible by train.
Politically, the Jungfrau is split between the municipalities of Lauterbrunnen (Bern) and Fieschertal (Valais). It is the third-highest mountain of the Bernese Alps after the nearby Finsteraarhorn and Aletschhorn, respectively 12 and 8 km away. But from Lake Thun, and the greater part of the canton of Bern, it is the most conspicuous and the nearest of the Bernese Overland peaks; with a height difference of 3,600 m between the summit and the town of Interlaken. This, and the extreme steepness of the north face, secured for it an early reputation for inaccessibility
The Jungfrau is the westernmost and highest point of a gigantic 10 km wall dominating the valleys of Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. The wall is formed by the alignment of some of the biggest north faces in the Alps, with the Mönch (4,107 m) and Eiger (3,970 m) to the east of the Jungfrau, and overlooks the valleys to its north by a height of up to 3 km. The Jungfrau is approximately 6 km from the Eiger; with the summit of the Mönch between the two mountains, 3.5 km from the Jungfrau. The wall is extended to the east by the Fiescherwand and to the west by the Lauterbrunnen Wall.
The landscapes around the Jungfrau are extremely contrasted. Instead of the vertiginous precipices of the north-west, the south-east side emerges from the upper snows of the Aletsch Glacier at around 3,500 meters. The 20 km long valley of Aletsch on the south-east is completely uninhabited and also surrounded by other similar glacier valleys. The whole area constitutes the largest glaciated area in the Alps as well as in Europe
While the mountain peak was once difficult to access, the Jungfraubahn cog railway now goes to the Jungfrau railway station at 3,454 m (11,332 ft), the highest in Europe. The Jungfraujoch is the lowest pass between the Jungfrau and Mönch.
In 1893 Adolf Guyer-Zeller conceived of the idea for a railway tunnel to the Jungfraujoch to make the glaciated areas on the south more accessible. The building of the tunnel took 16 years and the summit station was not opened before 1912. The goal was in fact to reach the summit of the Jungfrau with an elevator from the highest railway station inside the mountain. The complete project was not realized because of the outbreak of the World War.
The train into the mountain leaves from Kleine Scheidegg, which can be reached by trains from Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen via Wengen. The train enters the tunnel running eastward through the Eiger shortly above Kleine Scheidegg. Before arriving at the Jungfraujoch, it stops for a few minutes at two other stations, Eigerwand (on the north face of the Eiger) and Eismeer (on the south side), where passengers can see through the holes excavated from the mountain. The journey from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch takes approximately 50 minutes including the stops; the downhill return journey taking only 35 minutes.
A large complex of tunnels and buildings has been constructed at the Jungfraujoch, mostly into the south side of the Mönch. There is a hotel, two restaurants, an observatory, a research station, a small cinema, a ski school, and the Ice Palace, a collection of elaborate ice sculptures. Another tunnel leads outside to a flat, snow-covered area, where one can walk around and look down to the Konkordiaplatz and the Aletsch Glacier, as well as the surrounding mountains.
Apart from the Jungfraujoch, many facilities have been built in the two valleys north of the Jungfrau (the commonly named Jungfrau Region). In 1908, the first public cable car in the world opened at the foot of the Wetterhorn, but was closed seven years later. The Schilthorn above Mürren or the Männlichen above Wengen offer good views of the Jungfrau and other summits.

Switzerland
I had incredible weather for my twelve night journey through Switzerland. This video begins with me landing at the Zurich Airport.
I spend the first four nights of the trip in Zurich and take several day trips from there.
On day one I spend some time in Zurich before my day trip to points East. My first stop is in the small town of Rapperswil, then there is a scenic drive through the countryside and the excursion concludes at Heidiland.
Road trip number two takes me into the heart of the Swiss Alps. I visit Lungerersee Lake, Aare Gorge, Grimsel Pass, Furka Pass, Rhone Glacier, Devil's Bridge, Suworow Monument and the William Tell Monument.
My final road trip from Zurich took me north to Rhine Falls.
Next is was a scenic train ride to St. Moritz where I spent the night at a small Swiss hotel. From there I took another scenic train ride, this one was on the Bernina Express.
The next day was an incredible all-day rail journey on the famous Glacier Express to Zermatt. The train is described as the world's slowest express train.
I spent two nights in car-free Zermatt. The highlight of which was the spectacular cable car trip up the Klein Matterhorn. The views of the Matterhorn were breathtaking on this crystal clear day. I also spent some time walking through the charming Swiss town.
After changing trains in Visp it was on to Geneva for one night. Here we had a nice tour of this metropolitan city.
Next I took the scenic Golden Pass train to Interlaken. In Interlaken I took the Jungfrau Railway to the highest railway station in Europe located just below the mighty peaks of Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch. This trip was incredible.
After changing trains in the capital city of Bern, I arrived in Lucerne for the final four nights of the trip. Lucerne is a perfect place to stay. The city couldn't be more pictureesque.
In Lucerne I enjoyed a Swiss folklore show, rode the funicular and tramway to the top of Mount Stanserhorn, took a horse-drawn carriage ride through the Swiss countryside, rode the cable car to the top of Mount Pilatus, rode the world's steepest railway down from Mount Pilatus, took a boat ride across Lake Lucerne and walked across the historic Chapel Bridge in the city's Old Town.
Lastly the trip concludes with my flight out of Zurich. I got a particularly nice view of the airport during takeoff.

Switzerland playlist Interlaken makes a perfect home base for exploring the beautiful mountains all around the central region of Switzerland, offering many hotels, restaurants and shops, and wonderful train and bus connections to get up to the mountain sites. Tourists have been coming to Interlaken and the area since about 1800 when it was first popularized by some romantic painters and then tourism really increased in the 1890s and early 1900s with the opening of railway service.
Some of the world's most spectacular mountain scenery is waiting for you just outside of Interlaken in the heart of the Swiss Alps. In this movie we’re focusing on how to get the most out of your visit to the town. For the more adventurous you can go paragliding. Or for something less adventurous you can just rent a bicycle and go peddle around. There's a lot to see in the Interlaken area. The town itself is relatively flat and you can peddle through the shopping areas and up into the residential zones.
A main activity in town is shopping – all sorts of souvenirs for sale, clothing, you can buy some hiking gear. It's a great place for backpacks, for boots, hats, clothing of all kinds, walking sticks and a T-shirt that says Interlaken.
There's not much of a pedestrian zone that's free of automobiles here but they do have one little lane that's for pedestrians. But the rest of town is very friendly for walking around, the sidewalks are wide and there's always things to look at and things to do.
The great meadow forms a major park, beautifully landscaped and kept in a semi-natural state with flowers and trees and the meadow along one side and grand hotels on the other.
If you’re a gambler there is a casino like there is in most Swiss towns and it's an elegant place. It’s part of the Kursal complex which for 100 years has been a cultural center of the city, set in a beautiful park with fountains and flowers.
Another major attraction worth seeing near Interlaken is the city of Bern the political capital of Switzerland and it's just one hour away by train.
The Bern train station is right next to the old town so your walk through the historic zone begins the moment you arrive. The main street proceeds directly from the front of the train station right through the historic center. It's one street about ten blocks long, but it changes name several times. By the station and it's the Spitalgasse, then it becomes the Marktgasse, then the Kramgasse, then the Gerechtigkeitsgasse. Today, it's the main street of Bern, as it has been for centuries. This road is remarkable, not only for the ancient buildings and arcades that cover both sides, but for the spectacular Renaissance fountains down the middle. Today it's a popular shopping street with surprisingly modern shop interiors, and there's a slight curve with a long line of Baroque façades that combine to produce one of Bern's most impressive streetscapes. This Kramgasse and its buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site that encompasses the entire old city of Bern – a very impressive honor that UNESCO has designated all of the historic area as a World Heritage Site.
At the end of town across the river they have their famous bear pits. In recent years the government has greatly expanded this bear habitat to make it really a pleasant place for the bears to live.
Another important building is the Gothic cathedral with the nation's highest church tower at 328 feet, which you may climb for a bird’s eye view of the historic center. Construction of the cathedral began in 1421 in the Gothic style. It is a three-nave basilica without a transept or aisles, 85 m long and 34 m wide – it is quite huge. The walls outside are supported by flying buttresses and the majority of the building is constructed with local sandstone, and bricks were used for the ceiling for the vaults.
On the train ride back to Interlaken it is easy to get off at the picturesque city of Thun and spend a few hours walking around, enjoying the special ambience of this place, with a river running through the middle of the Old Town and a unique two-level sidewalk on the main pedestrian street. Then return to Interlaken and continue our exploration of this great city.
This video is part of a longer series that we're presenting all about Switzerland, including Lucerne, Zürich, Zermatt, Lugano, Locarno, and a lot of beautiful mountaintops scenery to share with you.

The town of Interlaken makes a perfect home base for exploring the beautiful mountains all around the central region of Switzerland.
In this segment we will take a quick look at what Interlaken has to offer. The advantages of staying in Interlaken are the many hotels, restaurants and shops, and wonderful train and bus connections to get up to the mountain sites. Some of the world's most spectacular mountain scenery is waiting for you just outside of Interlaken in the heart of the Swiss Alps.
Europe's longest glacier -- four famous mountain peaks: the Monk, Eiger, Jungfrau and Shilthorn -- astonishingly beautiful Lauterbrunnen Valley, my favorite -- Europe's highest railroad station, delightful mountain villages of Grindelwald, Wengen and Murren -- two large lakes with tour boat service -- and some fascinating nearby cities.
We have many other movies about the surrounding mountains and valleys you can find on our YouTube channel and on our website.
All of these attractions are close to the town of Interlaken which makes a perfect base from which to explore the region. There are nearly 100 hotels and guest houses in all price ranges in the city. While Interlaken is attractive with excellent supply of these hotels shops and restaurants, and there's a pretty park in the middle, frankly it is not one of Switzerland's really quaint and traditional villages. You don't come to this area just to see Interlaken. Instead it's a practical tourist center with fine support services, excellent rail and boat connections, and a compactness that makes for easy walking anywhere in town. There's also a large casino filled with slot machines for some evening amusement. The nearby surrounding peaks and valleys are your main reason for being in Interlaken so your time in town is mostly for eating and sleeping, doing a little shopping, in order to gear up for the excursions into the mountains.
For the more adventurous you can go paragliding. That's right even if you don't know anything about it you can go with a pilot and enjoy tandem paraglide ride. They'll drive you up to the hills and then you do a little walking, hike up further up on the slope, and you jump off, and the payoff is you get to glide down and enjoy a fantastic view.
Or for something less adventurous you can just rent a bicycle and go peddle around. There's a lot to see in the Interlaken area. The town itself is relatively flat and you can peddle through the shopping areas and up into the residential zones.
As you can see the main activity in town is shopping -- all sorts of souvenirs for sale, clothing, you can buy some hiking gear.
While you have many lovely hotels to pick from there's no question that one of them stands out above all the others. It's the Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel and Spa Five-Star, ultra-deluxe. Even if you cannot afford to spend the night here you might enjoy a meal in one of their various restaurants and you can even have a nice meal on their front terrace with a view looking up towards the Jungfrau.
This great meadow is right next to the one major street of town, the Hohweg, which is beautifully landscaped and kept in a semi-natural state with flowers and trees and the meadow along one side and grand hotels on the other.
If you're a gambler of course there is a casino like there is in most Swiss towns and it's an elegant place. It's part of the Kursal complex which for 100 years has been a cultural center of the city, set in a beautiful park with fountains and flowers.
Tourists have been coming to Interlaken and the area since about 1800 when it was first popularized by some romantic painters and then tourism really increased in the 1890s and early 1900s with the opening of railway service.
There is a quiet residential area behind the main commercial town. Population of Interlaken is quite small, just about 5000 people, many of them living in traditional chalet-style houses that really make something for you to have a look at. So that's another nice activity -- take a stroll in the residential neighborhood.

My wife and I urgently needed a day off and we decided to explore the wonderful Lauterbrunnen for just one day. The road to this magnificent valley alone is worth the trip. But there is more to see like the Staubach falls or the mountain village Mürren.
Tried to capture some cinematic footage of this incredible day which I want to share with you.
The footage was filmed with the new Sony 16-55 2.8 G lens for APS-C combined with my Sony A6500 and a Mavic Air.
