Driving Downtown - Montreal 4K - Canada
Driving Downtown - Montreal Quebec Canada - Episode 52.
Starting Point: Rue Saint-Catherine .
Montreal is the most populous municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec and the second-most populous municipality in Canada as a whole. Originally called Ville-Marie, or City of Mary, it is named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city. The city is centred on the Island of Montreal, which took its name from the same source as the city, and a few much smaller peripheral islands, the largest of which is Île Bizard. It has a distinct four-season continental climate with warm to hot summers and cold, snowy winters.
In 2016 the city had a population of 1.7 million. Montreal's metropolitan area had a population of 4.1 million. French is the city's official language and is the language spoken at home by 49.8% of the population of the city, followed by English at 22.8% and 18.3% other languages. The agglomeration Montreal is one of the most bilingual cities in Quebec and Canada, with over 59% of the population able to speak both English and French. Montreal is the second-largest primarily French-speaking city in the world, after Paris.
Historically the commercial capital of Canada, Montréal was surpassed in population and in economic strength by Toronto in the 1970s. It remains an important centre of commerce, aerospace, transport, finance, pharmaceuticals, technology, design, education, art, culture, tourism, food, fashion, gaming, film and world affairs. Montreal has the second-highest number of consulates in the coninent, serves as the location of the location of the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization, and was named a UNESCO City of Design in 2006. In 2017, Montreal was ranked the 12th most liveable city in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit in its annual Global Liveability Ranking, and the best city in the world to be a university student in the QS World University Rankings.
Montreal has hosted multiple international conferences and events, including the 1967 International and Universal Exposition and the 1976 Summer Olympics. It is the only Canadian city to have held the Summer Olympics. As of 2016 the city hosts the Canadian Grand Prix of Formula One, the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the Just for Laughs festival. In 2012, Montreal was ranked as a Beta-plus world city.
Economy
Montreal has the second-largest economy of Canadian cities based on GDP and the largest in Quebec. In 2014, Metropolitan Montreal was responsible for C$118.7 billion of Quebec's C$340.7 billion GDP. The city is today an important centre of commerce, finance, industry, technology, culture, world affairs and is the headquarters of the Montreal Exchange.
Culture
Montreal was referred to as Canada's Cultural Capital by Monocle magazine. The city is Canada's centre for French-language television productions, radio, theatre, film, multimedia, and print publishing. Montreal's many cultural communities have given it a distinct local culture.
Sports
The most popular sport is ice hockey. The professional hockey team, the Montreal Canadiens, is one of the Original Six teams of the National Hockey League (NHL), and has won an NHL-record 24 Stanley Cup championships. The Canadiens' most recent Stanley Cup victory came in 1993. They have major rivalries with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins both of which are also Original Six hockey teams. The Canadiens have played at the Bell Centre since 1996. Prior to that they played at the Montreal Forum.
Climate
Montreal is classified as a humid continental climate. Summers are, on the whole, warm and humid with a daily maximum average of 26 to 27 °C (79 to 81 °F) in July. Winter brings cold, snowy, windy, and, at times, icy weather, with a daily average ranging from −9 to −10.5 °C (16 to 13 °F) in January.

Ottawa Canada Travel Guide (WOW air travel guide)
Welcome to this Ottawa Travel Guide!
Below we have outline our recommended top spots for Ottawa from our Wow Air travel guide application video:
1. Parliament of Canada - We start off at the Parliament of Canada. Get your FREE tickets for a guided tour of this beautiful building and learn some of Canada’s history. Pick up your tickets at 90 Wellington Ave. at 9am. (Just across the street from Parliament) Tours usually range from 9:20am-12:50pm (approx. 45min) and can be taken in English and French.
2. Rideau Locks - East of Parliament is a path down to the Rideau Locks. They separate the Rideau Canal from the Ottawa River and transport boats to and from each. It is amazing to see them at work. Definitely worth it to explore. While down there, if you have more time on your hands you can walk along the Ottawa River for some beautiful views, or go further north on the Rideau Canal and rent kayaks! (If you are visiting in winter, the canal is frozen and becomes the worlds largest outdoor skating rink, and you can go for a skate!)
3. Byward Market - A shot 5 minute walk east from the Rideau Locks and through Majors Hill Park you will find the Byward Market, this is the happening fun area of the downtown core. There are market stalls with local products, and fresh produce, Beavertails, many restaurants, a quick walk to the National Art Gallery, and the NAC if you’re in the mood for a play. The market is a great place to visit from morning into the night. Also if you need to do some shopping, one of Ottawa’s largest shopping centres, The Rideau Centre, is located there too!
In the guide we ate at Zak’s Diner (
4. Lansdowne - Lansdowne park was completely renovated in 2015. There are many new large restaurants, a Whole Foods, speciality shops, a new modern Cineplex Cinema, and a new sports complex to see an Ottawa, Soccer, Hockey, or Football game! Lansdowne Park has something going on all the time, but I recommend it for its Nightlife.
The restaurant in the guide was Local Lansdowne (
Want to know how to get there? Here is Ottawa’s local bus service OC-Transpo (octranspo.com)
5. Gatineau Park - Just over the bridge north of Ottawa is Gatineau Park, there are so many beautiful walking and biking trails! Best bet is to go to their website and find the right one for you! You will most likely need to rent a car for this, but it is worth it.Want to stay closer to downtown? I recommend walking on the Ottawa River, the Rideau Canal, or the Arboretum.
6. Want something a little more adventurous? Canada’s highest bungee is located a 25 min car ride north of the city. Great Canadian Bungee:
Have a bit more time on your hands? I recommend white water rafting on the Ottawa River! Its an incredible time, and even the rafting guides in BC and New Zealand recommend it. Its about a 1.5 hour drive from Ottawa. Find out more here:
Thank you so much for tuning into our Ottawa Travel Guide! We only had 2 minutes today, so please share your favourite Ottawa locations too! Also, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out in the comments below!

Family of 7 Living Completely Off-Grid in Northern Canada!
In this video, we meet Jeff, Rose, and their 5 girls who are living completely off grid on a 40-acre piece of land in Northern British Columbia, Canada. They built their own off-grid house for less than $25,000 with cedar posts sunk into the ground like a pole barn, log rafters, plywood, foam insulation, and a living roof. The house was so affordable to build because they didn't have to excavate or pour a concrete foundation, dig a well, or install a septic system.
They have 2 solar power systems to power everything they need. The first solar system is just one solar panel that generates 12-Volt power for their lights, cell phones, and music player. The larger system is a 2.5 Kilowatt solar power system installed on their shop roof with a lithium ion battery bank that powers their full-sized fridge, a chest freezer, washing machine, as well as a mixer, blender and a toaster. They have a backup generator but they only have to use it for about 40 hours per year during prolonged cloudy or snowy periods.
All of the water the family uses is rainwater collected from their shop roof and stored in a tank under the shop floor to keep it cool. They carry buckets of water into the house for cooking, dishes and showers. To produce clean drinking water, they filter their rainwater in a passive water filter called a Burkey (check them out here:
The grey water from their kitchen sink and shower drains into a shallow grey water field in the backyard.
They have 2 composting bucket toilets and they sprinkle sawdust into the buckets after each use to absorb moisture and prevent smells.
For heat, they cut their own firewood for their Blaze King catalytic wood stove, and for their antique cookstove in the kitchen that they use for cooking and baking.
Jeff and Rose homeschool their 5 girls for a few hours each day and also ensure that their kids are learning diverse life skills like growing their own food, caring for horses, raising bees, and more.
We're very impressed with the clever solutions this family has come up with to make off-grid living seem so easy.
If you want to learn more about this inspiring family and follow their journey, check out their Gridlessness project — they have a blog and a YouTube channel.

TOP 10 BEST TORNADOES
Top 10 best tornado video countdown. Tornadoes manifest themselves in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some are a wondrous bright white, others are dark horrific, monsters. Most are harmless grazing over rural farmland, others are worst case scenarios. I've been chasing tornadoes since 1999 and these are my top ten best tornado videos.
For licensing HD or 4K tornado footage contact hankschyma@yahoo.com
Tornado Sound:
The roar of a tornado sounds different depending on it's size, how close you are and what the tornado is striking. Ones I've heard over open fields often sound like powerful waterfalls. The bigger the tornado, the louder and deeper the rumble. Ones moving through trees get louder and can sound more like a jet engine. In town, where there are lots of homes and buildings an approaching tornado might sound like a freight train with the clickity-clack noises of airborne missiles and heavy debris slamming into your neighbors homes.
#10 on this countdown was an extremely close, stationary tornado twirling 50 yards in front of my vehicle.
#9 The El Reno Oklahoma on May 31, 2013 was the widest tornado ever recorded. Mobile doppler recorded 295 mph winds just above the surface as this tornado grew to a record breaking 2.6 miles wide. The tornado occurred over mostly rural farm. Because the most powerful winds did not strike any anchored structures, this tornado only received an EF3 rating.
#8 was a beautiful, white, shape-shifting EF4 tornado descending from a tight, high base near Alpena South Dakota on June 18, 2014.
#7 and # 6 belong to the Pilger Nebraska twin tornadoes that touched down on June 16, 2014.
Two tornadoes on the ground at the same time isn't common, however two almost identical powerful EF4's in close proximity is extremely rare.
# 5 occurred in Cedar County Nebraska on June 17, 2014. This violent tornado occurred over mostly open farm land and received a underrated EF3.
#4 touched down just south of Dodge City Kansas as two mesocyclones buckled into each other like gears. This storm was a long lived cyclic supercell responsible for dropping a dozen or more tornadoes on May 24, 2016. For most of this tornadoes life, it shared the stage with another nearby tornado and at one point three tornadoes were on the ground at the same time.
#3 was a long lived, extremely violent tornado touching down near Chapman Kansas or Abilene Kansas on May 25, 2016.
For ninety minutes this finely tuned machine was on the ground. Unbelievably, this breath taking EF4 did not claim any lives.
#2... If ever a thing haunts your dreams, It might resemble the remorseless Katie-Wynnewood Oklahoma tornado of May 9, 2016. In seconds this EF4 ripped entire roof off its walls and tossed its fragments a hundred meters into the air. The rest of the house demolished. Trees hovers above the ground while roof trusses and 2x4's whirl around the tornado like feathers and a man looses his life.
#1 takes us back south of Dodge City to that unprecedented day, May 24th, 2016. At least a dozen tornadoes touched down, but the first one was the ultimate beautiful tornado. For approximately 30 minutes this slow moving, perfect beauty presented the tornado of a lifetime up close! Well lit excellent conditions, with good roads provided a dream come true scenario for even the most dedicated veteran chasers.
