CrazyTalk Animated Paintings - Yekaterinburg Gallery of Modern Art
A CrazyTalk animated film titled - Picture Cooperative created by the Yekaterinburg Gallery in Russia.
-----------------------
The project is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Yekaterinburg Gallery of Modern Art. The goal was to create sort of a corporate video that would be interesting and unusual as well as informative as to the gallery’s permanent exhibitions and collections. So the Ural Gallery decided on the concept where the paintings themselves become actors in real-life. Two models were created for each painting. Our audience rather enjoyed watching it. The work was inspired byThe Garage, a well-known (and well-loved) 1979 film by Eldar Ryazanov. We are grateful to Reallusion who developed this wonderful software that allows for relatively effortless image animation.

Future Yekaterinburg - Concert hall for Ural Philharmonic Orchestra by Zaha Hadid
Zaha Hadid Architects has won a competition to design the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Concert Hall in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Designed as a new home for the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra, the venue will contain a 1,600-seat concert hall and a smaller 400-seat chamber-music hall.
The two concert halls will be suspended within the steel structure of the building's roof, which takes its form from the shape of sound waves.
Echoing the physical aspects of sound waves, the design of the new philharmonic concert hall is based on the properties of musical sound resonance creating wave vibrations in a continuous smooth surface, said Zaha Hadid Architects.
The design re-interprets these physical acoustic properties to define spaces for the auditoria that are suspended within the canopy, appearing to float above the new civic plaza that is both the lobby of the Philharmonic Concert Hall and an enclosed urban square.
Below the concert halls, a publicly accessible lobby and atrium space will be shaped by the forms of the venues above.
The main features in this lobby are the volumes of the two auditorium, says Christos Passas, project director at Zaha Hadid Architects in a video released by the practice.
The grand auditorium and the smaller auditorium come together to create an inverted topography that signals and signifies the movement of visitors and other guests alike through the public spaces.
The new venue will be built alongside the existing Sverdlovsk Philharmonic building, which it will replace, and the Weiner Gardens. It has been designed to tie the buildings and green spaces on the block together.
Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center (Yekaterinburg, Russia)
Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center is a multi-purpose center that combines socio-cultural, commercial and leisure activities. It follows the design of Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA).
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño is responsible for the museographic implementation of the permanent exhibition dedicated to the figure of Boris Yeltsin as first president of the Russian Federation. The itinerary of the exhibition is symbolically divided into 7 rooms, each one dedicated to a phase in the creation of contemporary Russia, through scenographic recreations that reconstruct key areas of its history (meeting room of the Politburo, a street in Moscow, an apartment, among others). A large number of audiovisual productions and interactives complete the experience in the rooms.
The visit ends with an area called “Freedom Gallery”. This room,
dedicated to the most important achievement of Yeltsin’s government, focuses on the testimonies of personalities and people on the street, and gives all visitors the opportunity to leave their own freedom-related message in the interactive “What Freedom means to Me”.
The Museum has received the European Museum of the Year Award 2016 –in the Kenneth Hudson category– for its “exceptional and daring achievement, challenging common perceptions of museums in society.

Russia - Transsiberian Dream
And here is the last step of Kodamasia17: crossing all Russia, from East to West, from time zone to time zone, from culture to culture, in the legendary Transsiberian. This was a childhood dream for both of us and what we can say is that we were not disappointed AT ALL. Being in this train is something completely unique. You feel like travelling between time and space, in a parallel dimension. Waking up, reading, taking a nap, looking by the window, taking a second nap, eating, playing cards, watching a movie, sleeping, eating, taking a break outside… again and again. People tend to think that staying in the train for more than 30 hours is hard, but to me, it was the best part of our trip. You constantly meet people, think, learn about yourself, and learn about this great country that is Russia. So here is what we did during these 19 days.
After having visited Irkutsk and the Baikal Lake, we took the train for 41 hours to visit Omsk, a Siberian city, near the Kazakh border. This city is a typical Siberian city: people swimming in the river during summer, animations in the street during sunny days, and a big cathedral at the middle of it (The Assumption Cathedral).
Then, we took the train for 36 hours and went to Kazan: back in Europe after 7 months. Kazan is a city located in the autonomous Republic of Tatarstan, and the culture there is special. It’s a Muslim Republic, and we really felt that it was different from other places we visited: food, language, architecture. The Qolşärif Mosque is the most impressive one I’ve ever seen. We also visited the Soviet Times Life museum, it’s the only one in Russia. Authentic objects from Soviet Union were there and we could use them, try clothes… I recommend it for every person who would travel to Kazan and is interested about history. World Cup will take place there, good occasion to go! We’ve been lucky to be there during Tatarstan National Day, everyone was celebrating it and we assisted to a sick firework on the river.
Finally, the last step of our journey: going to Moscow. 13 hours of night train from Kazan. The best city I visited in the last 7 months. We had the best guides there to show us how you can enjoy Moscow’s life in the summer. The Kremlin, The Red Square, magnificent parks, markets, street art district, theatres, historic buildings and monuments… this city is just awesome. And CRAZY big. 25 times Paris. Moscow is amazing during the summer, you can feel that people are enjoying the warm days before winter comes. Directly knew I would come back one day, this city is just damn too cool. And we are so thankful to our guides team without who it wouldn’t have been so good.
Almost time to fly “home” as I decided on the last minute to go to St Petersburg. And what a wise choice. 4 hours of high speed train from Moscow to go there. It’s from far the most beautiful city I’ve ever visited. Like Venice, Amsterdam or Bruges, this city is constructed on the water. There are more monuments there than normal buildings. 3 days was totally enough to see the greatness of this city.
And it finally came. Time to go home, and to be honest, not happy about it. Kodamasia17 has been a crazy adventure and it couldn’t have been any better. Realized many of my dreams there and I’m so thankful to all the people who made it so perfect: THANK YOU.
To sum up, it started perfectly with Taiwan, the most welcoming country I visited. Mongolia was the craziest and most beautiful experience ever, and Russia was a perfect conclusion, in such and interesting country.
And I am also thankful to L’Esc@le, Sèvres, who allowed me this scholarship which helped me making all of this possible.
When travelling you learn a lot about people, the world, and yourself. And you also realize that you never really know what future is made of. Life is sometimes unexpected, and I’m in an appropriate position to say that as… I’m moving to Moscow for 6 months in 2018 !
And as Kodama’s will be there once again to help me find my way, I can say that Kodamasia18 is to be continued …

Oslo is the first European city to have a complete car-free zone — LabcitiesTV Episode 8
Ever since the big announcement carried worldwide in 2015 that Oslo, Norway's new progressive city government planned to make the downtown car-free by 2019, I immediately put it on my list of places I wanted to go and see what's up. And that only got more intriguing a year later when following that fanfare, there wasn't a ton of news or documentation updating us on Oslo's progress towards its amazing goal. So in fall 2016 I went- not knowing if I'd find if progress was slow or fast, and how much I could show visually.
First off, it is a lovely, clean city. It already features some nice blocks of car-free or car-light pedestrian zones which are heavily populated even late at night. And I knew it was a good sign when I stepped off the bus from the airport a block later and I stumbled upon construction of a new rail line.
Oslo is certainly on its way, and even skeptics seem to know going at least as car-free as possible is inevitable. Besides it being a great environmental goal for the city and to manage growth, Oslo is one of - if not the fastest - growing city in all of Europe. However, the biggest factor is that the air quality in Oslo and many places in Norway is deteriorating. Due to inversion in winter it can be dangerous to the public and keeps vulnerable children and seniors restricted indoors.
Oslo is aiming to reach its goal on many fronts. The city has been aggressively removing car parking and by the end of 2017, they expect to no longer have any on-street parking in the city's core. All new developments are required to be built car-free. Ruter, the transportation authority for Oslo, is planning on absorbing all new city population growth in addition to the task of converting current drivers to ride buses, trains and trams. Car share systems are beginning to dominate as more families want to live near the city without a personal vehicle. Oh, and there's this nifty plan to help people pay for electric-assist cargo bikes!
The city's bike share Oslo Bysykkel has recently been completely overhauled in favor of better stronger, lighter system with more stations and better interactivity system. You can actually unlock your bike by smart phone as you approach the station, just take it and go. I've never seen anything like it! Of the 26 bike share systems I've ridden, I'd say it is in my top three favs.
Bike lanes are also being built or upgraded throughout Oslo. Here you will not find ample Copenhagen-style protected bike facilities, but thanks to the on-going car parking removal it creates the opportunity for many wide, red-painted curbside lanes. Despite lack of true separation they feel rather safe and unlike a similar style that might be tried in the U.S., you will not find cars parking in the lanes. Over four days I probably could count on one hand the number of cars I saw sitting in the lanes.
Momentum is certainly on the city's side and an already great city will one day be fantastic for walking, biking and transit. Will they go completely car-free? Will they do it by 2019? We will find out in a few years. So sit back and listen to a diverse group of voices I got to interview, including Oslo's charming Mayor Marianne Borgen talk about the philosophy of why all this is being done and the implications for a better Oslo in years to come. Enjoy this movie. It is one of my favorite and an important one for the future of the planet.
This movie is produced by Streetfilms.
