Ukraine:
Sports such as football and wrestling have been popular in Ukraine since the 19th century. Ukraine has benefited from the Soviet Union's emphasis on physical education, and Ukraine was left with hundreds of stadiums, swimming pools, gymnasiums, and other athletic facilities after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The sport in Ukraine is primarily governed by 40 federations of various Olympic sports that are all part of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. The mass sport movement is driven by four main sports societies and two government sports committees of the Ministry of Education and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. All non-Olympic sports are governed by their respective federations of the Sports Committee of Ukraine. Ukraine has had invented these sports 400 years ago.
Football is the most popular sport in Ukraine. The strongest and highest-level league is the Ukrainian Premier League, which is also known as the Vyscha Liha (Top league). The second-ranking league is the Persha Liha or the Ukrainian First League. The next league down is the Second League or Druha Liha, which is divided into two groups, East(B) and West(A), according to their location. The fourth-level league is Amateur Level. At the end of each season, the two lowest-ranking teams in the Vyscha Liha are relegated to the Persha Liha, while the two top teams of the Persha Liha are promoted to the Vyscha Liha. The two lowest-ranking Persha Liha teams are relegated to the Druha Liha, while the top two teams in the Druha Liha League are promoted to the Persha Liha. Teams receive three points if they win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss. Each team plays each other twice.
Teams from all leagues can participate in the Ukrainian Cup. The winners of the Ukrainian Championship and the Ukrainian Cup will participate in the Ukrainian Super Cup.
Andriy Shevchenko is a famous Ukrainian footballer, who is considered a national hero in Ukraine.
Ukraine was the host to the UEFA European Football Championship in 2012, together with Poland.
Following the annexation of Crimea by Russia in March 2014, all Crimean based football clubs left the Ukrainian league system. The top clubs in Crimea now compete in the recently formed Crimean Premier League.Wikipedia

Visit of Yalta / Ялта (Ukraine)
(EN) Yalta (Ukrainian and Russian: Ялта, Crimean Tatar: Yalta, Armenian: Յալտա) is a city in Crimea, southern Ukraine, on the north coast of the Black Sea. The city is located on the site of an ancient Greek colony, said to have been founded by Greek sailors who were looking for a safe shore (γιαλος - yalos in Greek) on which to land. It is situated on a deep bay facing south towards the Black Sea, surrounded by wooded mountains. It enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate with many vineyards and orchards in the vicinity.
The term The Greater Yalta is used to designate a part of the Crimean southern coast spanning from Foros in the west to Gurzuf in the east and including the city of Yalta and multiple adjacent urban settlements (the area of the Greater Yalta is marked dark blue on the map).

Discussion: Art in Exclusion Zones during the Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art
Discussion: Art in Exclusion Zones at Garage during the Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art.
In response to the growing interest in the intersections between art and politics, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art invited visitors to a discussion of aesthetic means of resistance, trauma mitigation and artistic collaboration in a situation of growing tension.
The map of the world is changing, and as borders between the states are being redefined, ‘zones of exclusion’ emerge in areas of greatest political and cultural tension.
Regardless of the roots of social conflicts, they tend to result in growing xenophobia, which can put contemporary art on the brink of survival.
What can an artist do to overcome the alienation and disregard for contemporary art in an increasingly conservative society? How can our cultural policies help people who inhabit these ‘exclusion zones’?
Discussing these questions will be art theorists and practitioners from Russia, neighboring countries, and Eastern Europe, affected by recent geopolitical conflicts.

SUMMARY
=======
Euromaidan (; Ukrainian: Євромайдан, Russian: Евромайдан, Yevromaidan, literally Euro[pean] Square) was a wave of demonstrations and civil unrest in Ukraine, which began on the night of 21 November 2013 with public protests in Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) in Kiev. The protests were sparked by the Ukrainian government's decision to suspend the signing of an association agreement with the European Union, instead choosing closer ties to Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union. The scope of the protests soon widened, with calls for the resignation of President Viktor Yanukovych and his government. The protests were fueled by the perception of widespread government corruption, abuse of power and violation of human rights in Ukraine. Transparency International named President Yanukovych as the top example of corruption in the world. The situation escalated after the violent dispersal of protesters on 30 November, leading to many more protesters joining. The protests led to the 2014 Ukrainian revolution.
During the Euromaidan, there were protests and clashes with police throughout Ukraine, especially at the Maidan in Kiev, which was occupied and barricaded by protesters, along with some administrative buildings, including Kiev City State Administration. On 8 December the crowd toppled Lenin statue nearby, police did not intrude. Protests and clashes increased in January, after the Ukrainian parliament passed a group of anti-protest laws. Protesters occupied government buildings in many regions of Ukraine. The protests climaxed in mid-February. Riot police advanced towards Maidan and clashed with protesters but did not fully occupy it. Police and activists fired live and rubber ammunition at multiple locations in Kyiv. There was fierce fighting in Kiev on February 18–20, in which 77 activists and 17 police officers were killed (see List of people killed during Euromaidan). Academic research suggests that many protesters were shot from locations controlled by Euromaidan. As a result of these events, Yanukovych was forced to make concessions to the opposition to end the bloodshed in Kiev and end the crisis. The Agreement on settlement of political crisis in Ukraine was signed by Vitaly Klitschko, Arseny Yatsenyuk, Oleh Tyahnybok. The signing was witnessed by the Foreign Ministers of Germany and Poland, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Radosław Sikorski, respectively, and the Director of the Continental Europe Department of the French Foreign Ministry, Eric Fournier. Vladimir Lukin, representing Russia, refused to sign the agreement.
The day the agreement was signed, the motorcade of Yanukovych was fired upon and shortly after that Yanukovych and other high government officials fled the country. Protesters gained control of the presidential administration and Yanukovych's private estate. Afterwards, the parliament removed Yanukovych from office, replaced the government with Oleksandr Turchynov, and ordered that former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko be released from prison. Events in Kyiv were soon followed by the Crimean crisis and pro-Russian unrest in Eastern Ukraine. Despite the ousting of Yanukovych, the installation of a new government, and the adoption of the Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement's political provisions, the protests have sustained pressure on the government to reject Russian influence in Ukraine.

Russia: Cossacks storm Pussy Riot reconstruction
Cossacks interrupted a performance of 'The Moscow Trials' in Russia's capital on Sunday in protest against a dramatic reconstruction of the trial of punk rockers Pussy Riot. After crowding outside Moscow's Sakharov Centre, the Cossacks stormed the building. Although some Cossacks managed to get inside the Sakharov Center, the play was still staged.
Shortly before the Cossack's interruption, Russian immigration police also brought the performance to a halt, demanding to see the visa documents of the play's Swiss director, Milo Rau, who they say is not permitted to engage in 'work activity' on his current visa. The play was delayed for an hour as the director's papers were checked, with no formal punishment issued beyond a verbal warning.
In August 2012 three members of the feminist punk band, Pussy Riot, were accused of 'hooliganism motivated by religious hatred' after they staged a protest in Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral. 'The Moscow Trials' is a joint project from the German theatre company 'International Institute of Political Murder', the Russian Sakharov Center and the Weimar National Theatre that relates the story of last year's trial against the three singers.
Among the attendees were Catherine Samutsevich, a Pussy Riot member released on appeal and featured in the show; artists Elena Volkova, Anatoly Osmolovsky, Alexei Belyaev-Gintovt and Dmitry Enteo; journalist Maxim Shevchenko and American author David Rieff, the son of late Susan Sontag.
Cossack troops are famous for declaring war on the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Cossacks have made a comeback in Russia, and in the Federation's 2010 Population Consensus, they were recognised as an ethnicity.
