Kamenetz Announces Big Screen Movies Returning
Cinemark Theatres Opening 16-Screen Theatre at Towson Circle
Towson, Md. (January 27, 2012) - Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz joined The Cordish Companies and Heritage Properties to announce leading motion picture exhibitor Cinemark Theatres as the anchor tenant for a new $85 million entertainment center in downtown Towson.
The occasion marked the first tenant announcement for the next expansion phase of the already successful Towson Circle development, which features Barnes & Noble, Trader Joe's and Pier 1 Imports.
State of the Art Features
The theatre at Towson Circle III includes 16 state-of-the-art screens and 3,200 plush, stadium-style seats with 100 percent digital projection and enhanced sound systems. The new theatre will contain a Cinemark XD Extreme Digital Cinema auditorium exhibiting the newest movies every week, including 2D and RealD 3D pictures.
Projected Opening Set for Fall 2014
Towson Circle III will be located on a 4.2 acre parcel bounded by East Joppa Road, Pennsylvania and Virginia Avenues. In addition to the Cinemark Theatres, the entertainment center will feature five new restaurants and an 862-space parking garage. The underground garage, to be operated by the Baltimore County Revenue Authority, is projected to open in 2013, with the theatres and restaurants opening fall 2014.
Jobs
We are thrilled that Cinemark Theatres is bringing the big-screen movie experience back to downtown Towson in a big way, said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. This $85 million private investment adds new jobs, new entertainment choices, and renewed excitement to the center of downtown Towson.
Towson Circle III is projected to create 1,530 direct and indirect jobs, including 660 construction jobs and 870 jobs once the theatres and restaurants open. Construction jobs will generate a total payroll of $27.6 million during the 2-1/2 years of construction. Once the project opens, jobs will generate an estimated $16.4 million annual payroll. Towson Circle III is projected to generate $1.75 million in County taxes each year, including $840,000 from amusement taxes, plus an estimated $2.9 million each year in State sales taxes.
Advanced Technologies
It is with great anticipation that we bring Cinemark Theatres to downtown Towson downtown, said Alan Stock, Cinemark's Chief Executive Officer. Our main focus is to create the best movie-going experience possible for our guests, designing an entertainment environment that offers technologically advanced amenities and a viewing experience that simply cannot be duplicated. We are excited to share all that Cinemark has to offer with a whole new audience at Towson Circle III.
While several different approaches have previously been considered for the site, none brought the energy and excitement of Cinemark and an array of quality restaurants, said Mike Batza, Chairman and CEO of Heritage Properties. This will be a classic Cordish-style entertainment and dining venue, and should be a destination for people living around the region.
Towson Circle III Considered Outstanding Addition
Blake Cordish, Vice President of The Cordish Companies stated, We are thrilled to have Cinemark anchor Towson Circle III. Cinemark is a leader in the movie industry, representing quality, innovation and world-class entertainment. Towson Circle III will be an outstanding addition to Towson and we and our partners, Heritage Properties, are pleased to further our investment in Baltimore County.
This is a great private investment in our county seat that will benefit all of Baltimore County, said Baltimore County Council Chairwoman Vicki Almond.

Next Act Cinema, a new Black family-owned movie theater in the Baltimore, Maryland area is already receiving a lot of positive feedback just almost a month after it has opened! It's solid proof that movie lovers really feel the unique cinematic experience that the founders, Anthony Fykes and Robert Wright, wanted to share with the world.
On March 7, 2019, Next Act Cinema opened its doors as an independent boutique theater that offers a unique, personalized movie-going experience. The luxurious movie theater houses 86 all-new leather chairs, new big screens, and a state-of-the-art immersive sound experience which creates a personal ambiance for any movie fan.
What's more is that the theater also features a bar with a delicious menu that includes soups, sandwiches, quesadillas, crab cakes, pizza, salmon, salads, among others. The Wright brothers encourage people to come to the theater at least 30 minutes prior to their movie showing to enjoy the meals as well as socializing with others and the family.
It's also a must to try their exclusive beer cheddar seasoned popcorn that ironically doesn't have beer in it. Moviegoers who will watch on showtimes after 12 noon can order foods and drinks from the comfort of their seats so as to not miss any action.
Aside from revolutionizing the theater scene, Next Act Cinema also prides itself as the first and only Black-owned movie theater in the Baltimore area. The historic theater welcomes people from all walks of life to watch diverse and captivating films in an establishment where representation truly matters.
The Wright family have always dreamed of having a theater. From having a theater room in their home to owning a movie theater for the entire Baltimore community and even beyond, they have truly achieved it!

Arundel Mills - Raw & Real Retail
This is our walkthrough of Arundel Mills in Hanover, MD from January 11, 2019. This is a huge thriving former Mills mall, now managed by Simon Property Group. We walked away from this place feeling rather underwhelmed, evidenced by the lack of a slideshow, having nothing really interesting to take pictures of.
Check out our ongoing series of dead and dying shopping malls!
Songs used in this video (in order):
Stephen Gray - A Day in the Life
Max Harris - Great Debate
Keith Mansfield - Night Bird
Memo Kurt - Spacefree
Joël Vandroogenbroeck - Biblical Band
Geoff Bastow - Fillet Of Soul
Steve Martin - Cat Walk
Steve Gray - Wonder Groove
Here is some background from wikipedia:
Arundel Mills is a mall located in Hanover, Maryland (south of Baltimore, near BWI Airport) and owned by Simon Property Group. With its 1,630,000 sq ft GLA, it is the largest mall in the state of Maryland. The mall is located at the intersection of Maryland Route 100 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (Maryland Route 295) in northwestern Anne Arundel County (hence the name Arundel Mills).
Arundel Mills opened in November 2000 and, as of July 21, 2007, had over 225 stores. It is the first enclosed mall to feature a Medieval Times dinner theater.[2] In addition to 17 large anchor stores, Arundel Mills features a Dave & Buster's, the Live! Casino & Hotel, and an Egyptian-themed 24-screen megaplex theater. The cinema was the only outlet of its Muvico Theaters chain in the state of Maryland before being sold to Cinemark in March 2009.
The mall's interior layout features a racetrack design and, more noticeably, the outline of a boat.
Arundel Mills has five distinct neighborhoods, each with anchors and at least one mall entry. The neighborhoods are based on Maryland's culture.
- Charm City Neighborhood 1 – with the rowhouse entry (2 top pictures), formerly sponsored by Toyota.
- Maryland Scenic Drive Neighborhood 2 – with the Coca-Cola bottle entry leading into the Roundhouse (train station) food court (see top picture), sponsored by Safeway.
- Ocean City Boardwalk Neighborhood 3 – with the crab entry, Cinemark 24 movie theater entrance, and another separate restaurant entry. It's sponsored by Comcast Cable.
- Fashion Avenue Neighborhood 4 – with the marsh entry, sponsored by Discover Card. This neighborhood has the most apparel stores.
- Boating the Bay Neighborhood 5 – with the nautical entry, was formerly sponsored by EarthLink.
While not officially a part of Arundel Mills mall, big-box stores, major retailers, and restaurants adjacent to the property include Chick-fil-A, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Costco, Dunkin Donuts, Golden Corral, Longhorn Steakhouse, McDonald's, Men's Wearhouse, Michaels, Olive Garden, Panera Bread, Potbelly Sandwich Works, Red Lobster, Safeway, Staples, Starbucks, T.G.I. Friday's, Walmart, and Wendy's.
Lodging facilities in the immediate vicinity include Aloft Arundel Mills (by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, which in turn is owned by Marriott), Element by Westin Arundel Mills, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton, Residence Inn by Marriott, and TownePlace Suites by Marriott.
After Maryland voters approved slot machine gambling in Maryland in 2008, The Cordish Company planned a slots parlor next to the mall. The proposal for slots at Arundel Mills was on the ballot as a referendum in the November 2010 elections; the referendum passed, and construction began on the casino shortly afterward, with the grand opening of its first phase held on June 6, 2012. Since full completion in September 2012, Live! Casino & Hotel has about 380,000 sq. ft. of floor space and 4,750 gaming slots. Live! Casino & Hotel is a free-standing facility, separated from Arundel Mills by the inner mall ring road. Although not directly connected to the mall, the casino is within walking distance of the food court entrance. Live! Casino & Hotel includes a 5,000-space parking structure at Arundel Mills with a smart park green-and-red-light space availability feature, such as the system used at nearby BWI Airport. Parking is available free of charge during all mall hours for Arundel Mills shoppers.
Live! Casino & Hotel includes several dining options, including Bobby's Burger Palace; The Cheesecake Factory; and a Prime Rib steakhouse. The project was to feature an Obrycki's Crab House and Seafood Restaurant, though the restaurant announced in November 2011 that it would not be opening a location there. Instead, Phillips Seafood opened a location at the site. Live! Casino & Hotel has a live music venue, operated by Annapolis-based Rams Head, which includes fixed seating for approximately 300 in a cabaret-style design with several stepped viewing levels of the stage.
