Unused / unissued material - no paperwork - dates unclear or unknown. 1932?
Southampton, Hampshire.
Dignitary, probably Mayor of Southampton, speaking about the opening of the Plaza Cinema in Southampton. He talks about the proprietors wanting to show British films and films suitable for families.
Gathering of men who have worked on the building outside the cinema. One by one some of the men are introduced - Mr Richmond, the architect; Mr Richardson, responsible for the building; Mr Mollo (sp?) the decorators; Mr F J Spikenal (sp?) - owner. He then thanks the Mayor for his kind words.
Exterior view of the Plaza cinema - The film playing is 'Looking on the Bright Side' starring Gracie Fields. This would date the piece at 1932.

Reginald Porter Brown, Forum Cinema, Southampton, TOC Meeting 1968, Compton 3/10 + Melotone
Reginald Porter-Brown was resident organist at the Forum Southampton for many years and this recording was made during a Theatre Organ Club meeting in the cinema in 1968. Although the audio quality is poor, it shows many examples of his unique style of playing.
The Forum Cinema, Southampton was built in 1935 as a 1900 seat theatre, complete with dressing rooms and shallow stage, but with a wide proscenium opening. A 3 manual Compton organ with 10 ranks of pipes, and complete with one of the first electro-static Melotone units, was installed.
The cinema was damaged during the war but was qickly restored and reopened, but it closed in 1971 for it to be twinned. Like all ABC cinemas it went through several owners and finally closed in 1991. In 2000 it was converted into a large bar, but by 2019 it was a nightclub with a small fringe theatre in the former cafe area, which uses an entrance at the rear of the building.
The organ was removed in 1971 and went through several private owners, being installed in 2 residences, and in storage for many years both in between and since. However, it has now been installed by a team of enthusiasts in the Titchfield Festival Theatre
It can be seen and heard playing in the Titchfield Festival Theatre here (some time ago)
After it was installed in 2017 much time has been was spent fixing wind leaks and tuning the 1090 pipes. There is a Facebook group for the organ at
STOPS – the Scottish Theatre Organ Preservation Society, founded on 29th October 1972, is Scotland’s oldest cinema/theatre organ society, and is a registered Scottish charity (SC 018217).
We own and operate the New Palace Theatre Organ Heritage Centre in Greenlaw, Scotland and present an annual season of silent films with live accompaniment.
Our website is stops.org for the Society and nptohc.co.uk for the New Palace Theatre Organ Heritage Centre and we are on Facebook as ‘stops.org’ and ‘nptohc’.

Video Wall - Showcase Cinema De Lux (Southampton)
The ‘flying’ video wall is a great example of the complex and intricate installations Beaver Group deliver – we were challenged with creating this one of a kind installation for the main lobby by Showcase Cinema and their architects, JTDA. In May 2016 Beaver Group began work on the initial concepts for the installation, producing isometric models, concept drawings, 3D renders and test videos.
MOUNTED OVER 11 METRES HIGH IN THE LOBBY USING A COMPLEX STEEL CABLE SUSPENSION SYSTEM, THE VIDEO WALL CANVAS DISPLAYS CONTENT AT A MASSIVE 8K RESOLUTION.
The Beaver Group in-house motion graphics team conceptualised and produced the content using a mixture of 3D animation, motion graphics, photography and distributor supplied assets.

We revisit the Odeon Cinema in Portsmouth, if you watched our first video on this channel you would have seen screen 4 but now we found access to screens 1, 2 and 3so make sure you smash that LIKE button and SUBSCRIBE & SHARE.
Odeon opened in 1936 and had a total seating for 1,824 people. It later changed to 1,298 with the introduction of 3 extra screens. Screen 1. 631, Screen 2. 229, Screen 3. 179, Screen 4. 259. Due to disrepair and lower demand Odeon closed it's doors in North End on 10th January 2008. The foyer is now occupied by Sainsbury's and sadly the cinema lies quietly behind.

UK: SOUTHAMPTON: DISNEY CRUISE SHIP [V]
English/Nat
VOICED BY: Vera Frankl
A new cruise liner run by Disney has made its first public appearance at the British port of Southampton.
The 83-thousand ton 'Disney Wonder' dropped anchor for the first time on Wednesday after leaving the Italian shipyard where it was built.
It's equipped with everything from cinemas and theatres to three swimming pools, with a whole deck devoted to children's activities.
VOICE-OVER:
0002 At 83-thousand tons and with room for more than 2-thousand guests, the 'Disney Wonder' is one of the largest passenger ships in the world.
0011 Thousands of people are expected to flock to see the twin-funnelled liner at Southampton docks in England.
0018 Four hundred tons of sand and 100 palm trees have been brought to the docks to recreate Disney's private island in the Bahamas at the docks.
0025 There are three swimming pools on board - including this one shaped like Mickey Mouse.
0031 Children have an entire deck of activities and plenty of Disney characters to entertain them.
0037 'Disney Wonder' is due to sail for Florida on Friday before joining her sister ship, 'Disney Magic', in the Bahamas.
0045 The ship has some of the most unusual features ever seen on a cruise liner, including a restaurant that changes colour while passengers eat.
0053 The 'Disney Wonder' has a cinema and a 975-seat, three-storey theatre.
0058 It also has areas just for adults, as well as those exclusively for children and teenagers.
0103 Hundreds of locals turned up to see the ship arrive.
0109 SOUNDBITE: (English)
(Q Did you see them come in?) Yes, we saw Mickey and Minnie.
SUPER CAPTION: Voxpop

Daleks KitKat TV & movie advert, then ITV report on Dalek exhibition in Southampton
In July, 2001, Nestle produced a popular advert for their best-selling brand KitKat, featuring famous faces (and sci-fi icons) playing 'against character'.
Shown across the UK on television, and in movie/cinema theatres, the advert featured two daleks, Lemmy from Motorhead (RIP), Bernard Manning (RIP), model Kelly Brook, Mel Smith (RIP), style designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and footballer Roy Keane.
It can never be reshown, as three of the stars have sadly passed away.
The two Daleks opened the advert, and closed it, chanting 'Give us a cuddle' instead of the usual 'Exterminate'.
The grey/black Dalek was owned and operated by prop collector Chris Balcombe, and the Dalek sequence was filmed, using 35mm movie cameras, inside Wandsworth Shopping Centre in London, on 24th May 2001. The sequence with Lemmy was filmed the same day, at Hampton Court House.

Following the advert, there is a sequence from MeridianTV news, reporting on a Dalek exhibition at the Millais Gallery in Southampton. If features a location report on collector Chris Balcombe, with some of his Doctor Who props, including K9 and Cybermen.

Shopping in Southampton before Pedestrianisation - 1964
The main shopping district of the city is centred on Above Bar Street (part of which is pedestrianised), London Road, High Street and East Street.
There are several indoor shopping centres in the area, namely West Quay, The Marlands Shopping Centre, Bargate and the new WestQuay development. As an attempt to ensure the whole city centre is not dominated by chain stores, the city council have designated East Street a speciality shopping district. West Quay retail park, not to be confused with the similarly named shopping centre, is also located in the city centre. The Marlands Shopping Centre was opened on 5 September 1991. In 2005–2006 the centre was revamped by adding an improved entrance at Above Bar Street and a new information desk. The shopping centre formerly featured a series of fountains but these had to be put out of service due to health and safety reasons in late 2005. On 12 February 2009, Swedish furniture retailer IKEA opened its 18th British store, on West Quay Road. SOURCE: Wikipedia
