Passion for the essence of Swahili beauty brought Javed Jafferji and his wife Kulsum to create Cinnamon Spa on Zanzibar's island of Unguja. The concept for the spa arose in 2007 when Javed was producing a coffee table book entitled, Safari Spa, as he came to recognize that there was a severe lack of quality spas in Tanzania.
After years of planning and research into both modern and traditional therapies, Cinnamon Spa opened its doors in December 2010. You can now indulge in a unique experience inspired by the Swahili beauty rituals of old, and the natural Zanzibari environment itself. A refuge nestled in the heart of Stone Town, Cinnamon Spa offers over thirty therapies and treatments using the best organic ingredients from the islands. From sea salt to seaweed, to the array of therapeutic spices found around the archipelago, the Cinnamon Spa experience is distinctive. Fusing the past with the present, treatments using organic Africology products are also available to choose from.
We are committed to providing our customers with a high standard of service. Our team has six highly trained therapists -- two of whom are from Bali, Indonesia, offering an unexpected element from yet another culture that has influenced Zanzibar.
Cinnamon Spa's beautiful interior takes influence from Morroccan and Swahili design, reflecting the Hamam baths of a time gone by. Adorned with decorative Swahili carving and Moroccan carpets, rich, sumptuous hues paired with antique furniture complete the atmosphere.

cinnamon is our light and airy café bar situated on the 1st floor overlooking the ocean which offers a casual menu of asian inspired platters and stir fries along with simple classics like burgers and salads.
our bar is fully stocked with a range of imported drinks and is perfectly positioned for watching the magnificent zanzibari sunset at the end of a hard day’s sunbathing on our private beach, accompanied, of course, by one of our signature cocktails.
for special occasions, we can also set aside a private area for a celebration or a more intimate dining experience.

Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania in East Africa. It is composed of the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometres (16–31 mi) off the coast of the mainland, and consists of many small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, referred to informally as Zanzibar) and Pemba. The capital is Zanzibar City, located on the island of Unguja. Its historic centre is Stone Town, which is a World Heritage Site.
The name Zanzibar is apparently derived from the Persian zang-bâr signifying black coast.
Zanzibar's main industries are spices, raffia, and tourism. In particular, the islands produce cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. For this reason, the islands, together with Tanzania's Mafia Island, are sometimes called the Spice Islands (a term also associated with the Maluku Islands in Indonesia). Zanzibar is the home of the endemic Zanzibar red colobus monkey, the Zanzibar servaline genet, and the (possibly extinct) Zanzibar leopard.

Greetings from the Blu Marlin Village in the Zanzibar's Kiwengwa (manortiz)
Blu Marlin Village is an ideal site from which to discover Zanzibar Island, sometimes referred to as the spice island. The Zanzibar archipelago is a semi-autonomous territory that is politically part of Tanzania. UNESCO has declared Zanzibar Stone Town, the capital, a world heritage site for its extraordinary beauty. A tour of Stone Town begins with an exploration of the characteristic houses built of coralline rock and after which the capital is named. Walking around in the labyrinth of alleyways is almost like exploring the ocean depths. The brass-studded carved wooden doors traditionally symbolize the power of the resident families. You can explore uncontaminated natural areas, where the red colubus monkey, the rare Zanzibar leopard and the civet cat live.
The principal economic activities are the growing and processing of spices, such as nutmeg, pepper, and cinnamon, coconuts, the production of raffia, and lastly tourism.

Hotel Verde Zanzibar – Azam Luxury Resort and Spa opens its doors to the public
Unguja, also known as Zanzibar Island, is the main island in the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar: a beautiful slice of heaven located in the Indian Ocean 15 miles off the coast of Tanzania, boasting soft sand, white beaches and shimmering azure waters – a breath-taking place to escape from the world. With tourism on the increase and the improved popularity of Zanzibar as a holiday destination, and, more recently, an investment opportunity, you would be remiss not to add this island to your travel agenda (or investment portfolio).
The many beautiful hotels dotted along the coastline cater for leisure and holiday-makers, corporate and conference groups, incentive and domestic travellers catering to any pocket and with many more hotels, resorts and spas under construction and planned for, the area promises to become the destination of choice for any and all travellers.
Zanzibar is so much more than romantic coastlines and sunsets, she is an island rich in culture with great diversity in wildlife – plenty to see and do and a kaleidoscope of sights, smells, tastes, touch and sounds to fuel the soul. Known as the spice island, Zanzibar’s Spice Tour is a feast for the senses, taking you to a variety of small farms in the rural area to sample vanilla, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper, aniseed, bay leaves, chili, coriander, ginger, turmeric, lemongrass and other spices as well as farms that grow tropical fruits (such as Jackfruit and soda soda berries), medicinal and ornamental plants.
Owner of the 106-roomed Hotel Verde Zanzibar – Azam Luxury Resort & Spa which opened on 21 March 2018, Mr Said Salim Awadh Bakhresa said that he chose this particular piece of paradise due to the increasing popularity of the area as a holiday destination and to fulfil his vision of becoming a leader in building East Africa’s greenest hotel and promoting responsible tourism. With his deep roots in the community, he added that he wants to give back and contribute to tourism and job creation in a positive way.
He went on to say that by commissioning Verde Hotels, a sustainable hotel management company, he was able to incorporate and employ green building elements, strategies and practices that will benefit the environment, the locals and guests. By sourcing from local suppliers – from food to staff, amenities and logistics – they are able to support the community, the economy and responsible tourism.
The hotel is situated 2km from the popular and ever-developing Stone Town where African tradition combines with Persian, Indian, Arab and European influences in the historic buildings, architecture and spectacularly carved wooden doors. The island has an incredible history so be sure to make time to visit the National Museum, the town market, The Old Fort and Cultural Centre, Hamamni Persian Baths or the Old Dispensary, Sultan Palace, The House of Wonders, the old Slave Market or any one of the fifty-one beautiful mosques.
So whatever your reason for visiting her shores, be it for health and wellness, water sports, to attend a wedding or conference, indulge in a romantic getaway, take time out with the family or to experience the food, culture and wildlife, you are hard-pressed to find something Zanzibar cannot offer – it’s the exciting thing to do.
