Day 5 of my Andaman Trip!!! Visited ROSS Island to see the Light and Sound show!
ROSS ISLAND was the establishment for Britishers during the time they ruled India. They built the cellular jail on Port Blair and themselves stayed on the Ross Island. The Light and Sound show at Ross Island is one of the best things to see in Andamans.

At a distance of 20 km from Diglipur and 320 km from Port Blair, Ross & Smith Islands are the twin islands situated in the Andaman Islands of India. This is one of the most beautiful places in Andamans.
Ross & Smith Islands are joined by a sandbar that is visible during low tide but gets submerged during high tide. The sand bar in the form of a crescent is the main attraction of the place. Water is crystal clear and gem green in color. The beach is surrounded by tropical forests.

andaman and Nicobar tour / day 6 / baratang , ross island , north bay island
Baratang Island is an island of the Andaman Islands. It belongs to the North and Middle Andaman administrative district, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.[6] The island lies 150 km. (93 miles) north of Port Blair.
History
Ranchiwalas Island is another name for Baratang Island. Towards the close of the nineteenth century, the city of Ranchi experienced political upheaval. Many locals sought refuge by converting to Christianity with the help of the missionaries there. The British, realizing the future prospects of the forests of Andaman and Nicobar islands, sent the converts to Baratang Island to cultivate crops. The laborers from Ranchi settled there and made new lives for themselves. A lighthouse was commissioned in 1985 at the eastern entrance to the Andaman strait.
Geography
The island belongs to the Great Andaman Chain, and with an area of 242.6 square kilometres (93.7 sq mi) it is one of the main islandsof the group, a closely set archipelago in the Bay of Bengal, adjoining the Andaman Sea. Middle Andaman is to its north, and South Andaman to the south. Beaches, mangrove creeks, limestone caves, and mud volcanoes are some of the physical features.] The islands of Ritchie's Archipelago lie 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) to the east. Port Blair, the capital of the Indian Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is located approximately 45 kilometres (28 mi) from the southern tip of Baratang. Baratang contains the only known examples of mud volcanoes in India. These mud volcanoes have erupted sporadically, with recent eruptions in 2005 believed to have been associated with the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. The previous major eruption recorded was on 18 February 2003. The locals call this mud volcano jalki. There are other volcanoes in the area, the Barren Island volcano which is the only active volcano in South Asia, and the Narcondum volcano which is considered to be a potentially active volcano.
Ross Island : is an island formed by four volcanoes in the Ross Sea near the continent of Antarctica, off the coast of Victoria Land in McMurdo Sound.Geography[edit]
Because of the persistent presence of the ice sheet, the island is sometimes taken to be part of the Antarctic mainland. Its area is 2,460 square kilometres (950 sq mi); only a small portion of the island is free of ice and snow. The planet's southernmost active volcano, Erebus (3,794 m or 12,448 ft), as well as the dormant volcano Terror (3,230 m or 10,597 ft), are situated on the island. They were named by Captain James Ross after his ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. The third highest elevation is Mount Bird, with Shell Glacier and Endeavour Piedmont Glacier on its slopes. Abbott Peak stands between Mount Erebus and Mount Bird. Gamble Cone and Kyle Cone stand in the east of the island.[1]
Despite its relatively small size, Ross Island is the world's 6th highest island and highest island in Antarctica. It has the highest average elevation of any island.
Jarawa tribals of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India: rare old footage
The Jarawas, an indigenous people of the Andaman Islands in India. They live in parts of South Andaman and Middle Andaman Islands, and their present numbers are estimated at between 250–400 individuals. They have largely shunned interaction with outsiders, and many particulars of their society, culture, and traditions are poorly understood.
The Jarawas are recognized as an Adivasi group in India. Along with other indigenous Andamanese peoples, they have inhabited the islands for at least several thousand years, and most likely a great deal longer. The Andaman Islands have been known to outsiders since antiquity; however, until quite recent times they were infrequently visited, and such contacts were predominantly sporadic and temporary. For the greater portion of their history their only significant contact has been with other Andamanese groups.
There is some indication that the Jarawa regarded the now-extinct Jangil tribe as a parent tribe from which they split centuries or millennia ago, even though the Jarawa outnumbered (and eventually out-survived) the Jangil. The Jangil (also called the Rutland Island Aka Bea) were presumed extinct by 1931.

North Andaman Ross & Smith Islands aka Twin Islands Andaman Detail Information: -
TWIN ISLANDS : ROSS & SMITH ISLANDS - Ross & Smith islands are actually two islands – Ross Island & Smith Island joined together by a sand bar to make a single group of islands. Ross & Smith Islands requires to go from Diglipur (North Andaman). A fisherman's boat or a speed boat can be hired and the ride would take around 25 mins from the Aerial Bay Jetty in Diglipur. What makes these islands truly beautiful and sets them apart from the rest of the islands is that these two islands are joined by a natural, sand bar. Water is crystal clear and gem green in color. Sun bathing in Ross & Smith Islands is a wonderful experience. During high tide, the sand bar disappears leaving a trail of water between the two islands and during low tide the sand bar appears again making the islands look majestic! There is a Marine Sanctuary on the island which makes it an ideal place for spotting beautiful coral reefs and colorful species from the underwater. The beach is surrounded by tropical forests and is a preferred place for trekking and trail hiking by many tourists. One can also opt for activities like Scuba Diving & Snorkeling. The clear blue waters add a touch of cleanliness to the whole experience. Ross & Smith islands are home to the Olive Ridley turtles which means, being the right place at the right time, one can even witness the turtle nesting.

Ross and Smith Islands Aerial Video
Ross and Smith Islands are known as the Twin Islands of Andaman. They are connected with a white sand bar.
This white, silky sand bar goes inside the sea at times of high tide and surfaces up again during low tide. Means during high tide the connection between these two are lost. Interesting :)
The island also has a small tree house where one can climb and enjoy the serene beauty. Water is crystal clear and gem green in color. Sun bathing in Ross and Smith Islands is a wonderful experience that can be had only after visiting them.

You Won't Believe This Is India... 2!
Did you know India has the most beautiful white sand beaches, crystal clear water, fascinating sea life, coral, and tropical islands in the world? Don't believe me? Come with me to the stunning Andaman and Nicobar Islands Union Territory of India. This is incredible India!
We started at Kala Pathar beach which is the most beautiful and picturesque beach on Havelock Island. Then we take our scooters to the start of the 1.8km trek point to get to Elephant Beach. Elephant Beach is perfect for snorkelling and getting away from the crowded main beaches.
After swimming, dancing, and snorkelling with the fish on Elephant Beach we grab lunch on the way to Radhanagar Beach - the largest and most popular beach on Havelock Island. Then I tell you one of the reasons why I love India so much, India simply has it all!
Forget Goa, forget any other beach in India; the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have the best beaches I've seen in India so far! Havelock certainly has the best beaches between it and Neil Island. Neil Island is more for relaxing on the beach.
In 2018 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi renamed Havelock Island to Swaraj Dweep, Ross Island to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, and Neil Island to Shaheed Dweep.

Why The Andaman and Nicobar Islands so important for India
Located at the entrance of straits of Malacca having spread over 350 Islands & an area of 8250 Sq.km, The Andaman & Nicobar Island is the one of the most strategically important island chain in the world. It is the only place where India’s tri-service military command is operational. The straits of Malacca, world’s second-busiest waterway is the passage which amounts 80% of China’s oil imports ( nearly six million barrels of oil per day). It is also known as the vocal cord to china, Japan & south Korea’s energy economy. The Andaman & Nicobar Command is the vital military establishment keeping India’s hawk eye in the region as stubborn China is being more assertive now-a-days. India has decided to modify its military infrastructure & deployment in the Andaman & Nicobar island. The theatre command hosts just one infantry brigade, around 30 warships – mostly amphibious landing ship tanks and small landing craft and a handful of Dornier-228 maritime patrol aircraft, Mi-8 and Chetak helicopters, two P-8I Poseidon aircraft for surveillance, reconnaissance as well as Submarine hunting & some UAVs. IAF is also planning to station one SU-30MKI squadron, C-130J Planes & Predator Guardian Drones, some S-400 Batteries and another 1-2 infantry brigade to the Theatre command. Many of us don’t know that, Andaman is known as the MIDDLE EAST of India due to its Huge Oil & Gas Reserves. This is because of subduction process which is happening in the Bay of Bengal whereby Indo-Australian plate is diving under Eurasian Crustal Plate and leading ride of crude oil & natural gas. Indonesia is in the possession of the southern part of this subduction zone which enables it to produce over 1 million barrels of crude oil daily alongside making it the No .1 producer of natural gas in the Asia-Pacific region. Even Myanmar which lies to the north of this subduction zone produce 30k barrels of crude oil daily. It has even installed offshore oil & gas fields near the Andaman basin for large scale explorations and purification. The question that arises is that why India splurges its foreign currency reserves while our very neighbours Indonesia and Myanmar are exploiting the very oil reserves right in our backyard in Bay of Bengal. The ocean around Andaman and Nicobar Islands falls under the 55,000 Km subduction zone of Indo-Australian plates; subduction zone is the zone for potential crude oil sites. Out of this 60,000 Km of subduction zone, 7,500 Km of land and ocean are the part of international territorial waters of India. It would be interesting to note that this entire zone rich in oil & natural gas is spread across an area of 83,419 square km. 22 deep water bores were explored and were found to be rich in oil & natural gas. An estimated 75% of India’s sedimentary basins are yet to be explored. According to a Gov report, 18 trillion cubic feet of reserves are yet to be produced in India and 27 trillion cubic feet of reserves are yet to be developed. India spends 31% of its foreign exchange on buying oil & gas from middle east. India explored oil and natural gas in Iran, Myanmar, Africa and other countries since independence but they have not explored oil throughout our own country. If India starts extracting oil from deep waters, then nobody can stop us from becoming an exporter of oil as well as a member of OPEC & our economy will become strongest in the world with unprecedented GDP growth. The dream of what we see about $ 1 DOLLAR becoming Rs 1 Rupee will be true. But Some Western & Sheikh Interest resisting Gov of India & ONGC to explore such oil reserves in India. These lobbies don’t want India to overtake them at one go. However, India will extract oil form these reserves at any cost. Government of India is planning to move forward in this direction. So that’s the reason ANDAMAN NICOBAR ISLAND is significant for India.
