BEATGIRLS NZ 21ST CIRCA THEATRE WGTN NZ
EXCERPTS FROM THE BEATGIRLS 21ST SHOW - WELLINGTON NZ
CIRCA THEATRE
ORCHIDS Circa Theatre Wellington, 24 27 July 2019
A mesmerising performance sees three generations of women unravel their mythology
ORCHIDS divulges the secrets of feminine magic and lost ritualistic practices, in a spellbinding performance from seven women aged 8yrs to 60yrs – including former LIMBS dancer, Marianne Schultz.
The world of ORCHIDS evokes mothers, sisters, witches, sirens, goddesses and other-worldly creatures. Choreographer Sarah Foster-Sproull’s work (Guangdong Modern Dance China, Footnote NZ, Royal NZ Ballet) has been likened to a living Hieronymus Bosch or Caravaggio painting. Through ORCHIDS, she connects some of NZ’s most reputed artists, including composer Eden Mulholland and designers Andrew Foster (set and dramaturgy), Jennifer Lal (lighting) and Elizabeth Whiting (costumes). Together, they unravel an entrancing mythological realm that demystifies the complex female spirit, bringing women out of darkness and into the light.

Us/Them trailer - NEW ZEALAND FESTIVAL 2018
US/THEM
By Carly Wijs
BRONKS and Richard Jordan Productions
with Theatre Royal Plymouth and Big in Belgium
in association with Summerhall
This “astonishingly assured” (The Guardian) drama comes to New Zealand following sell-out seasons at the Edinburgh Festival and London’s National Theatre.
Based on the experiences of children who lived through the 2004 Beslan school hostage crisis, Us/Them – the break-out hit show from Brussels youth theatre company BRONKS – portrays extreme events but through a child’s eyes. Despite the potentially harrowing subject matter, the experience is naively wonderful and unsettlingly funny.
Two children sketch a map onto a wide bare stage. They are intent, urgent. It has to be accurate. Part of the staggering achievement of Us/Them is that its two performers are able to start with a simple physical act of abstract map-making and open up an entire world of the mind. Thrilling, often humorous and with a deft lightness of touch.
“Frequently playful, sometimes surprisingly jokey – and ultimately desperately moving” - THE GUARDIAN

New Year's Eve in Wellington
#NewZealand #RivaezAdventureVlog #Aotearoa #Wellington #NewYearsEve
Hello 2019!
Wellington was an experience. Did not expect the city to be so windy. Auckland is more populated, but for some reason Wellington felt more crowded.
During our stay there were many things that could've gone wrong, mostly with our plans to get to the South Island, but luckily we were able to manage and stay positive.
This video closed out 2018 for us and we woke up ready to go for the next year at 100 percent! Hope you guys enjoy, the videos get way more fun from here!

Bridging Styles with Emma Cosgrave
Bridging styles is a platform for selected dance artists to engage in critical, cultural and social topics which apply to dance in Aotearoa and across the globe. The aim is to engage artists with questions which encourage them to talk about how their art form is developing and how it can transcend on to other styles while creating an understanding across the board.
Emma Cosgrave is recent University of Auckland Dance Studies graduate and was the DANZ delegate for the Ausdance (Sydney) DAIR residency programme. Emma has worked with a range of NZ choreographers including Malia Johnston, Sarah Foster-Sproull, Taane Mete, Taiaroa Royal, Natalie Marie Clark and Sarah Knox. She is currently working with Footnote NZ Dance on a collaboration show with Guangdong Modern Dance Company touring to China and across NZ.
Bridging Styles is brought to you by Dance Aotearoa New Zealand & Momentum Productions.

Jekyll and Hide in Auckland
Meet the most delightfully evil man alive: Mr Hyde, a man so evil he punches the cleaning lady, drop-kicks a precious kererū and yells ‘shark’ at the beach.
This mad-cap rendition of Jekyll and Hyde celebrates the darkness within us all. A completely reworked version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, this terrifyingly hilarious theatre-comedy plays at The Basement Theatre from July 4 – 15 as a gloriously scary (yet sexy) adventure for the 21st Century.
Jekyll is the man who washes and separates his recycling before putting it out. Hyde is the man who uses the last of the toilet roll and doesn’t replace it before leaving the bathroom. Who does that? Who is this mad man?!
The company renowned for last year’s raucous hit Don Juan descends on The Basement Theatre like a long lost friend, full of the most outrageous stories of morality, mortality and mayhem. At the helm of the madness is Leo Gene Peters, Director and founder of A Slightly Isolated Dog. The company took home an Excellence Award & People’s Choice Ensemble Award at the 2016 Auckland Theatre Awards for Don Juan; the show that nearly killed the last Metro Magazine Editor, Simon Wilson - “So…funny I almost died laughing”.
A Slightly Isolated Dog have built a reputation for shaking up well-known stories, and injecting their trademark outrageous physical comedy and twisted pop songs to the telling. Focused on removing the barriers between audiences and performers and revelling in the silliness of their stories, the fast, furious and irreverent performances are an antidote to passive theatre.
The playful retelling of Jekyll and Hyde is brought to life by a brilliantly talented cast of five; Susie Berry (winner, Best Female Newcomer Wellington Theatre Awards 2016), Andrew Paterson (An Awfully Big Adventure, Orphans), Hayley Sproull (Little Shop of Horrors, Vanilla Miraka), Jonathan Price (An Awfully Big Adventure, Don Juan), and Samuel Austin (Dying For It).
Jekyll and Hyde plays:
Dates: 4 – 15 July, 8pm
