Things To Do Around Taipei Taiwan | Yehliu Geopark - Jiufen Taiwanese Street Food - Shifen Lanterns
Can you believe this is Taiwan? There are so many things to do just a short drive from the city centre of Taipei. If you're spending a couple of days in Taipei, we definitely recommend that you dedicate a whole day to visit the beautiful Yehliu Geopark, the mountain village of Jiufen and Shifen where you can famously send lanterns off in the sky.
Yehliu Geopark: Located in northern Taiwan, Yehliu Geopark is home to a number of unique geological formations including the iconic Queen's Head (女王頭). Besides the Queen's Head, other formations include Sea Candles (燭台石), Fairy Shoe (仙女鞋), Ginger Rocks, Elephant Rock, Ice Cream Rock, Kissing Rock, and Princess' Head.
Jiufen: Jiufen is a mountain town in northeastern Taiwan, east of Taipei. It's known for the narrow alleyways of its old town, packed with teahouses, street-food shacks and souvenir shops.
Shifen: Located in the Pingxi area (平溪), Shifen Old Streets is a collection of lanes and alleys in and around the Shifen railway station area. The station and tracks run straight through the village. It's also popular to create a Chinese Lantern (天燈) with a wish written on it to set into the sky.

TAIWAN (DAY 1) | TAOYUAN AIRPORT & RAOHE MARKET
Hey everyone!
A few weeks ago, I visited Taipei for the very first time with my friend Kendra (instagram.com/kennyisaperson). Shortly after arriving we were able to catch the UBUS going to the Taoyuan HSR. Once we reached our beautiful hostel we hopped on the Taipei MRT (thanks to our EasyCards) and made our way to the famous Raohe Night Market at the end of the greenline. We gorged ourselves on most of what the market had to offer (stinky tofu included).
All in all it was a great way to jumpstart our Taiwan adventure!

One of the premier destinations in northern Taiwan, Yehliu Geopark is home to a number of unique geological formations including the iconic Queen's Head (女王頭), and is located along a cape stretching out from the town of Wanli.
Part of the Daliao Miaocene Formation, the cape stretches around 1,700 meters, formed as thousands of years of geological movement forced the Datun Mountains to change their shape, jutting out into the ocean.
Besides the Queen's Head, other remarkable formations include Sea Candles (燭台石), Fairy Shoe (仙女鞋), Ginger Rocks, Elephant Rock, Ice Cream Rock, Kissing Rock, and Princess' Head.

Yehliu Geopark (野柳地质公园)
Yehliu is a cape on the north coast of Taiwan. It’s known for Yehliu Geopark, a landscape of honeycomb and mushroom rocks eroded by the sea. Well-known formations named for their shapes include the Queen’s Head and Dragon’s Head. The park is also home to birds such as ospreys and little egrets. In the village of Yehliu, the elaborate, 19th-century Baoan Temple was built using materials from an abandoned boat.
One of the premier destinations in northern Taiwan, Yehliu Geopark is home to a number of unique geological formations including the iconic Queen's Head (女王頭), and is located along a cape stretching out from the town of Wanli.

Next to the geopark is the Yehliu Ocean World (野柳海洋世界), which is an oceanarium with ocean exhibits, and sea life including dolphin and sea lion performances. Tickets for the oceanarium can be reserved online, and is a fun addition to the more educational experience at the geopark.
How to get there:
From Keelung Station, Ride a bus no.790 going to Jinshan and drop to Yehliu. 5 to 8 minutes of walking to the entrance of Yehliu Geopark.
