Castelsardo - Saverio Pepe
One of the loveliest towns in Italy is a medieval fortress surrounded by nature and steeped in history, religious traditions and ancient crafts. It sits perched on a promontory in Anglona, in the centre of the Asinara Gulf in north-western Sardinia. It may have been the legendary Tibula of Roman times, but by the Middle Ages it was already an impenetrable centuries-old fortress protected by thick walls and 17 towers, until the advent of modern weaponry. The original nucleus of Castelsardo grew up around the castle of the Dorias, which tradition dates to 1102, although it was probably constructed in the late XIII century. Today it is the seat of the lovely Museo dell’Intreccio Mediterraneo (or Museum of the Crossroads of the Mediterranean), one of the most visited museums in all of Sardinia. In the early XVI century the castle was renamed Castillo Aragonés and became the seat of the bishopric until the Cathedral of Sant’Antonio Abate was built in 1586.

The Sardinia ( Italian : Sardegna, Sardinian : Sardigna ) is an island in the Mediterranean Sea and one Italian region, north of Tunisia and south of Corsica. She got the autonomous status the28 February 1948. Its capital is the city of Cagliari.
Sardinia is the second island the surface of the Mediterranean Sea and an Italian region with special status whose official name is Regione Autonoma della Sardegna. Its Special Status enshrined in the Constitution of 1948 guarantees the administrative autonomy of local tutelary institutions of its linguistic and geographical features.
Sardinia, separated from Corsica by the Strait of Bonifacio is situated in the middle of the western Mediterranean Sea: the central position favored since ancient trade and cultural relations as the economic, military and strategic.
In modern times, many writers have extolled the beauty of Sardinia, which still retains, despite the extension of coastal tourism in a protected landscape, the remnants of nuragical Culture.
The geology Sardinian is very interesting because the rocks therein are among the oldest in Europe and the oldest in Italy. Thus, there is not very high altitudes in Sardinia due to long erosion. Indeed, the base rock of southern Sardinia (hence the large number of mines in the south) dates from the period Precambrian, specifically the beginning of the eon Proterozoic (age Paleoproterozoic ). Found in the northeast of the island of sedimentary rocks from this period, which shows that there has also been a part from immersion. These sediments have allowed the creation of rocks Carboniferous (where coal mines). There are also more recent rocks, from the aeon Phanerozoic such as volcanic rocks found in quantity in the western and southern part of the island.
With the end of the wars for independence and unity of Italy, the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia became the Kingdom of Italy in 1861. Everything starts with the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia in constitutional terms, there is a continuity between it and the Italian Republic. There has never been a rupture from a regime to another. It is not a coincidence that Garibaldi has his tomb in Sardinia.
Sardinia is a complex region that has preserved through its cultural witnesses, materials of historical and artistic interest, an original characteristic baggage that we do not stop to rediscover and revalue befits of taking into account all his wealth.
Paolo Valente Poddighe was the first archaeologist to claim that Atlantis is equivalent to the Sardinia nuragical time, and that this island could be Atlantis. Other archaeologists argue for his thesis.
The origin of the Sardinian symbol is not defined, but it regains its historical record attested in 1281. It should be noted that the analogy with the Corse region. Several historical facts may perhaps explain. Indeed, the first historical event took place in 1014, with victory over Museto to Cagliari (see story ), and so the heads represent the Moors conquered, and are four in number in reference to the regions of Sardinia.
In October 2004, Several researchers at the University of Montreal went to Sardinia to study Sardinian peculiarity. Indeed, the doctors of the island found a significant number of men supercentenarians (110 + years), which is rare, because usually it is the women who reach the ages of 110. Several explanations have been put forward such as Air mountains or diet, but still factors genetic. It is likely that these factors interact as suggested by Robert Bourbeau. Thus old people and are also interested in Sardinia, in the framework of the European project FELICIE.
Can separate two types of resources of the island, traditional as the livestock, and new such as tourism. Despite recent, Sardinia suffers from a high rate of unemployment, especially among young people. The biggest problem is the use in Corsica and Sardinia. If this issue is not resolved, there will always be evil and emigration. The interior of Sardinia depopulated. . The European Union has responded in part to the Sardinian demand by implementing an Employment Assistance Plan.
Sardinia is increasingly known for its tourist resorts, such as the Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast), the Catalan city 'of Alghero, the mountains of Gennargentu and its villages, the small port of Bosa dominated by a fortress. There are an amazing way to discover Sardinia. Indeed, trenino verde (the green train) is a railroad steam restarted, with locomotives and railcars renovated in order to visit the island. The Tour of Sardinia cyclist takes place every year in the month of February.

VLOG 22: BRISIGHELLA, ITALY - AMAZING VIEWS! PICTURESQUE VILLAGE! HIDDEN GEM IN ITALY!
Hi guys!
We explored the town of Brisighella! It was such a lovely little town in Ravenna. From Bologna, we reached Brisighella by train via Faenza and took the bus to Brisighella. The journey was about 1 hour/ 1 hour 15 minutes. What a perfect day to spend the day!
Places to see in Brisighella
The Fortress (La Rocca)
Sitting on one of the three hills surrounding Brisighella, a windy road leads up to the Fortress for those who are not willing to make the trek on foot (you can drive). It has limited opening hours.
Clock Tower (Torre dell’ Orologio)
Just right above the town, take the trail of stairs up to the Clock Tower. It’s a relatively easy walk up even in the heat of summer.
Sanctuary of Madonna del Monticino
Sanctuary of Madonna del Monticino is sitting on the third hill. If you are up for a walk, you could walk from the town to the Tower and then to the Sanctuary and back to the town.
Via del Borgo or Via degli Asini (Donkeys’ Alley)
The charming via del Borgo what makes this street unique is that it is an internal walkway, once used for defensive purposes. As you make your way up some stairs, you find yourself in an alley with houses on one side and arched openings on the other side that looks on to the street.
Wine tasting and grab some olive oil if you can!
Thank you for watching! Please like and subscribe :)

Medieval Tuscan castle with more than 100 bedrooms and that was home to two Popes goes on sale in Italy for £20million making it the largest private home on the market
A medieval castle in Tuscany set over more than 1,500 acres has gone on sale in Italy making it the largest private home on the market.
The stunning estate found slightly east of Siena boasts farmhouses, vineyards, woodland and sunflower fields in its grounds.
Built in the early 12th Century it is one of few medieval castles which remain in Europe and is thought to have been the home of Pope Pius II and III at one time.
The property, whose owners wish to keep themselves and the castle's name unknown, is being sold by Sotheby's International for 28 million euros - almost £20million.
While it is not known who first lived in the castle or commissioned its construction the property remained in the hands of one prominent family for centuries.
The Piccolomini family are thought to have lived there intermittently from the 15th Century. Two of the family's most notable members, Enea Silvio Piccolomini and Francesco Piccolomini went on to become Popes Pius II and III.
Nuraghi Mix
Santu Antine - Nuraghe Losa - Nuraghe Arrubiu - Su Nuraxi
Su Nuraxi - Barumini - Sardinia
During the late 2nd millennium B.C. in the Bronze Age, a special type of defensive structure known as nuraghi (for which no parallel exists anywhere else in the world) developed on the island of Sardinia. The complex consists of circular defensive towers in the form of truncated cones built of dressed stone, with corbel-vaulted internal chambers. The complex at Barumini, which was extended and reinforced in the first half of the 1st millennium under Carthaginian pressure, is the finest and most complete example of this remarkable form of prehistoric architecture

Sardinia ( sar-DIN-ee-ə; Italian: Sardegna [sarˈdeɲɲa]; Sardinian: Sardìgna [saɾˈdiɲɲa] or Sardìnnia [saɾˈdinja]; Sassarese: Sardhigna; Gallurese: Saldigna; Algherese: Sardenya; Tabarchino: Sardegna) is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily and before Cyprus). It is located west of the Italian Peninsula and to the immediate south of the French island of Corsica.
Sardinia is politically a region of Italy, whose official name is Regione Autonoma della Sardegna / Regione Autònoma de Sardigna (Autonomous Region of Sardinia), and enjoys some degree of domestic autonomy granted by a specific Statute. It is divided into four provinces and a metropolitan city, with Cagliari being the region's capital and its largest city as well. Sardinia's indigenous language and the other minority languages (Sassarese, Corsican Gallurese, Algherese Catalan and Ligurian Tabarchino) spoken on the island are recognized by the regional law and enjoy equal dignity with Italian.Due to the variety of its ecosystems, which include mountains, woods, plains, largely uninhabited territories, streams, rocky coasts and long sandy beaches, the island has been defined metaphorically as a micro-continent. In the modern era, many travelers and writers have exalted its beauty, remained untouched until the contemporary age and immersed in a landscape that houses the vestiges of the Nuragic civilization.
